My first Replacements show was at city gardens nj then shortly after at the tower in philly.....at that show the crew was constantly bringing out paper cups with water.....very hot.... bands need hydrated right ??? i was drenched at the front and lifted up one of the fresh cups around the monitor and looked at tommy stinson as if to say "can i drink this one im really thirsty ??" he nodded back.....i took a big gulp of water......i almost choked.....straight vodka.....the band was guzzling vodka all night like water.....i swear they musta put down at least 50 large cups of vodka in about 90 mins/2hrs.....lol
Never saw anyone drink like that and remain lucid and functioning......lol

I was at the Grant Park show when Westerberg and the boys broke up on stage.
The only other band I ever saw fight more on stage was Red House Painters.
Kozelek was a DICK.
.....and Wall of Voodoo's "Ring of Fire" is a better cover.

The Mats are Minnesota's best export. Sorry Prince fans, just my opinion.

Ray & Dave Davies of the Kinks, godfathers of heavy metal and punk among other things, were also pretty infamous for brawling with each other both on- and offstage, at least during the pre-arena-rock era before 1980 or so. Also agree on props for Wall of Voodoo

Mick Avory knocked Dave Davies OUT COLD in the middle of a concert, retaliating for a booze fueled fight the night before! The Kinks were NUTS.

First concert I can remember ... about 11pm on a Friday night, our ringleader Gord says, "You gotta see these guys" ... Piled 7 or 8 of us into his '73 Thunderbird and we drove an hour in the rain to see the Kinks perform the entire 'Schoolboys in Disgrace' album at a midnight concert in a crappy gymnasium at UC Irvine. Freaking fantastic show, and I was hooked. God bless the Kinks!
