CFB week 1

Post by Steelknife » Sun Aug 31, 2014 1:10 am

Jameis really has to work on his mechanics. Mental is there, but he winds up like a mini Leftwich. Not particularly accurate on short and intermediate. Beautiful deep ball but don't think he has a particularly strong arm.

Lsu-wisco

Worried about Anthony Jordan Jefferson starting. Malachi Dupre injury hurts. Gonna be a ground and pound offense and game.

Got a feeling we will see Jefferson with like an 8/17 for 111 and an int stat line, but we will run well.

Won't predict score, but I think the under (50). Will be close game.

LSUs play calling was far worse than Wisconsin's on a similar gameplan.

1. I don't get how LSU rarely has a QB. "Hey, come to us, you'll likely start" seems an easy enough pitch.

2. If you start a QB, trust him to be a QB. If you don't, start the other guy.

Alabama got 2 BS calls to go their way which led to 14 points. WVU outplayed them.

Have you ever actually admitted your college team? PSU...Sucks. OSU...sucks. Or did you change this year?

LSU won't be much this year, but it has been better than your teams.

FSU getting a good game from Okie State. Winston has not looked good at all. At least so far.

His mechanics were and are questionable. No zip on his passes. Everything floats. Motion is similar to tebows...passes float like Pennington

Mental game is usually there, but that's been missing tonight too.

Probably the biggest positive takeaway for me, too. Walsh for OK State is going to be good.

Penn State is my team and I know they suck

Is that any worse than you busting on an Ohio State team that's better than LSU every year ?

I think not

Jennings can play if you let him. Coaches shouldn't handcuff him. Give him the team and let him prove unworthy, rather than the other way around.

So the frosh they wheeled out tonight is no good, or just very green?

He only played a series and didn't get a chance to do much. I think the coaching staff is just very cautious. Kind of Steelers like in not wanting young guys to play at key positions. Even with Jennings they handcuffed him the entire first half. Only started winning when we let him throw a bit.

Harris supposedly played neck and neck with Jennings in practice. Outplayed him big time in spring game.

I suspect he will get more time against lesser opponents.

Another dual threat kid. Lanky.

Cigarette?

I thought that was the best opening day in a long time. All damn day surprisingly good games.

If not for the sports page I would have missed the PSU CF game. Not impressed with Bama, FSU, LSU,OSU, UCLA...FSU should walk away with ACC though...I think MSU is the team to beat in the big 10 but much will be revealed against Oregon next week.

I still back PSU but until sanctions are over...War Damn Eagle.

Wisconsin getting big lead may have been worst thing for them, and best thing for LSU season. Lsu first half gameplan is a 5 loss team. Lsu 2nd half is a 3 loss team and a tough out for anyone. So young they'll only get better from here. Les just has to keep playbook open.

LSU's secondary was phenomenal. Wisco QB is garbage, but he had no one open all game.

Other thoughts:

Jameis scares me as a prospect, but I like him way more than Manziel. Jameis mental game is there usually. Off tonight. His mechanics need work, and worried that he hasn't improved in that regard this season. He throws a bit like Tebow. He floats passes. Rarely does he have zip. Not very accurate on short and intermediate. Behind or high. He's not someone you start year one.

UGA could surprise this year with that rushing attack. Gurley is my heisman favorite, but that Chubbs kid is going to be a stud as well.

Mariota is gonna Mariota, but when's the last good QB to come out of Oregon? Don't trust the QBs from that system.

Jeremy Johnson got done dirty, IMO. I know Marshall was only suspended a half, but the way johnson was lighting it up, you let him finish that game.

OSU not impressive.

Bama o-line impressive. Yeldon is a dark horse heisman candidate. Their QB is decent, but no McCarron. Secondary looked bad. Defense in general wasn't anything special.

Good to know the talent is there. Teams that played "non - traditional" openers today seemed to struggle a bit, particularly early in the games. Not sure if I'm picking up something that wasn't really there or not, though. For the most part, talent seemed to win out.

"Incredibly, LSU now has a winning record under Les Miles when trailing in the 4th quarter. Their 22 such wins are the most in FBS since he took over in 2005 while they are the only FBS program with a winning record in such games. "

That's crazy.

I'll admit I mostly just saw the first half of Bama-WVU and know they were missing Depriest but that looks like the worst D Saban has fielded at Bama.

I did watch LSU and Wis in total...and LSU front 7s aren't up to the recent past. I'm use to LSU beating teams up...the second half rush yards were more scheme then dominate. SEC is up in the air this year...

Easily the best QB to my eye at this point is the kid from T-AM...QB's are on the move so much these days you are only going to see so much of schooled mechanics...

Agree on A&Ms QB. Need to see more though. Week 1 is tough to make predictions off of.

LSUs front 7 struggled, but like you said, it was all scheme. Traps, counters, pulls. It wasn't being out physicaled. LSU adjusted in second half (can't believe that)

Kessler vs. Hogan next weekend at The Farm... Couple good young QB's.

LOC was terrible, but both USC and Stanford looked like they belonged in the Top 25.

I still like Oregon, UCLA, Stanford and SC in that order. Though Stanford looked really good. Fresno State, minus pretty much all their best players last year, wasn't much of a test.

Right now I have USC and Oregon out front in the Pac 10...looking forward to next weeks game...I don't know how to view Stanford yet...I like what they have back on offense...but they lost so much on defense.

I'll agree UCLA looked like hot dogshit against a very game and surprisingly good (defensively) UVA team yesterday, but they also traveled east, did the early game, on the road, against a power conference team. They get some credit in my book for that. Plus, their offense will improve. The talent is there. I thought, considering what they lost, the defense definitely came through.

Oregon vs MSU will tell us a lot about this conference, and the Big Ten, for that matter. Great to see games like that early in the season.

Before I stop talking about LSUs youngins...gotta give props to...

Diarse. A man out there. Redshirt freshman.

Dural. sophomore.

Quinn. Freshman.

When Malachi Dupre comes off of injury (true freshman), and when fournette can get a full game of work, lsu will have some young weapons.

This is a team that might not be in the playoff this year, but over the next couple should be toward the front of the pack.

Malachi Dupre is about the most Louisiana sounding name I have ever heard on a football player. Schools outside the state shouldn't even have been allowed to recruit him.
