Proposed rule changes
https://operations.nfl.com/updates/the- ... proposals/
The most interesting proposed rule change to me is the one by Philadelphia:
"By Philadelphia; to amend Rule 6, Section 1, Article 1, to provide an alternative to the onside kick that would allow a team who is trailing in the game an opportunity to maintain possession of the ball after scoring (4th and 15 from the kicking team’s 25-yard line).
I kinda like the alternative to the kick but 4th and 15 yards is a bit much. Maybe 4th and 5 or 10. Also, I wonder if that would be an option throughout the game or just inside the last two minutes. My thought is, teams with great defenses like the Steelers and a good offense could risk or gamble more frequently. I am not sure it is in Coach Tomlin to be so risky but if it comes down to the last opportunity to win the game, I say why not go for it.

AAF had the right idea: you attempt from deep in your own territory and you can only Dow it down two scores with limited time left in the game
1 20 Amarius Mims, OT, Georgia
2 51 TRADE: Brandon Aiyuk, WR
3 84 Hunter Nourzad, C, Penn State
3× 98 Jarvis Brownlee, Jr., CB, Florida State
4 128 Qwan'tez Stiggers, DB, Toronto Argonauts

Or maybe go back to the original on side kick rules just during the last two minutes of each half. Otherwise to keep what they have is just a waste because the kicking team rarely recovers.truckstoppornpatron wrote: ↑Sat May 23, 2020 9:15 pmMan, fuck all this new rule bullshit. The fuckin game shouldn't get turned into Arena football/college option bullshit. These homies are fuckin shit up and the ole porn patron is tired of it.

I never watched an AAF game and I am struggling to visualize how that works. Maybe I will YouTube it. I would like to see something different than the current attempted onside kicks. It is basically a waste of time.bradshaw2ben wrote: ↑Sat May 23, 2020 9:00 pmAAF had the right idea: you attempt from deep in your own territory and you can only Dow it down two scores with limited time left in the game

An update on the proposed rule change that allowed a team to keep position instead of an onside kick. Teams no longer need to trail.

This could get interesting for coaches that like to take risks.

Please no playground make it and take it.
There is no rule in basketball for the trailing team to be able to keep possession after scoring and in the interest of competition there shouldn't be.
There is no rule in baseball for the trailing team to be able to get extra outs and in the interest of competition there shouldn't be.

Wow. Can you imagine if it were "make it take it" rules. The offense could theoretically keep the ball the whole game. The defenses would be worn out.Havoc wrote: ↑Sun May 24, 2020 12:15 amPlease no playground make it and take it.

If the intent is to “rule change” the NFL out of existence, then hurry up and do it. It leaves more time for high school and college football. Jeez!

JFC that's dumb.
What the fuk is the point? Maybe they ought to have a rule that if the losing teams makes a 60+ yard field goal on tuesday it gives them more points for the previous sunday's game.
Dumb.

But now you can’t hit punt returners immediately after they catch the ball and you can’t hit a KO returner on an attempted onside kick as he tries to catch the ball.

You have to let them catch the ball?bradshaw2ben wrote: ↑Fri May 29, 2020 4:50 pmBut now you can’t hit punt returners immediately after they catch the ball and you can’t hit a KO returner on an attempted onside kick as he tries to catch the ball.

It will be a miracle if any team can execute a successful on side kick.El Kabong wrote: ↑Fri May 29, 2020 11:35 pmYou have to let them catch the ball?bradshaw2ben wrote: ↑Fri May 29, 2020 4:50 pmBut now you can’t hit punt returners immediately after they catch the ball and you can’t hit a KO returner on an attempted onside kick as he tries to catch the ball.

You have to wait for them to catch it and make a football move—they are now considered defenseless players.

I understand the safety aspect of this but it will be next to impossible to execute a successful on side kick. Might as well just get rid of the option. Btw, would you know when a decision will be made one way or the other if the HOF game will allow fans? Just for planning purposes.bradshaw2ben wrote: ↑Sat May 30, 2020 8:06 pmYou have to wait for them to catch it and make a football move—they are now considered defenseless players.
