I didn't get the reason why they left San Diego in the first place. I remember watching them play the Steelers in Jack Murphy Stadium when I got the chance to visit San Diego. The city seems large enough to support a team.

Reed won it on last minute FG.
Atmosphere was electric.
I didn’t get LA move either. Rams are back so if you are NFC/Rams fan then Chargers are if no interest to you.
From there seems LA has long been dominated by Raiders fans. So those fans aren’t going to all of a sudden be Charger fan.
I get it’s above that and league wanted two teams in huge LA market.
Pretty sure Chargers won’t last long there.

It's not about butts in seats that owners care about. It's TV market. LA area is what the 2nd largest in the country? That means more eyes on the television. So the NFL can go to it's advertisers and say they have the west coast covered955876 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 17, 2020 6:23 pmI went to a game there in 05. Sure selling out your games is nice, but that's a cherry on top of a windfall of money for owners and the NFL

https://www.investopedia.com/articles/p ... -money.aspLocal revenue, which consists of ticket sales, concessions, and corporate sponsors, is earned by the teams themselves. In 2018, the Packers earned $196 million in local revenue, 43% of their total revenue that year, which was $455 million.
No doubt the NFL makes the majority of their money through television, but I wouldn't say 43% or $196 Million is a "cherry on top." YMMV, depending on the team. Shitty teams don't sell merchandise or sell out stadiums like the packers. Or steelers.

95 beat me to it. With TV it's virtually all profit- just make sure you have electricity and ensure the cameramen are being fed lunch 8 times a year. lol
And yes teams like the Packers/Steelers/Cowboys would suffer more from stadiums closing, but teams like the Jags would be happy as pigs to have that reality.
I don't, and didn't say it was profit. It clearly states "revenue." The article goes on to say that operating costs for the NFL aren't exactly peanuts, so margins aren't what we think they are based on a $12 Billion industry.zeke5123 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 17, 2020 8:28 pmEhh -- don't mistake revenue for profits.CORE-TEN wrote: ↑Wed Jun 17, 2020 8:17 pmDonnie Brasco wrote: ↑Wed Jun 17, 2020 6:45 pm

Don't kid yourself. Television, while a different kind of profit, isn't exactly cheap to produce.

The only proof on where their revenue comes from is the Packers. Roughly 48% of their income is butts in the seats.

If the Steelers would sign CK, they can hire a media consultant or another one if they have one.. It won't cost much & doesn't go against the cap. If the media is watching so closely, they can put the Steelers on national television each week. With the bars closed (here in Toronto) for who knows how long, I'd like that.955876 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 17, 2020 4:18 pmSure they can say that. That’s what they should always be doing when a mic and camera gets put in their face.I don’t buy media as distraction BS for a second. Coaches and players can just say “Focused on the game. Next question?”
The idea that Tomlin will be clutching his pearls over media rather than preparing for games strikes me as silly.
But people don’t do that. Some can’t help themselves. Some will have to talk. Some even could say nothing wrong and yet the media will twist their words or context and create a story from that.
I agree with your point. I just think you are giving people too much credit.
Plus, there is the whole stubbing toe at Chicago over the anthem example.
Maybe Tomlin learned from it.
But then, learning from and not repeating the same mistakes hasn’t always been a strong suit of his
My skepticism comes from what our staff has “put on tape”.
This could be an ideal situation for CK if everything fell into place.
They could sure.If the Steelers would sign CK, they can hire a media consultant or another one if they have one..
But then, this is a team that pretty much needs to be backed into a corner before even hiring a QB coach.
They’d likely just toss it over to Keith Butler. You know our DC, errrrr linebackers coach, errrr inside linebackers coach.
I’m kidding and see your point.
One thing about signing him, sure would make the season more interesting if/when Ben goes down.

I just did a quick search and I couldn't find anywhere that CK publicly said that he still wants to play. If he is really interested in playing in the NFL again why wouldn't he post videos of himself working out, throwing, etc. I think the guy is done playing and someone is keeping his name out there to remain relevant to continue to get money from Nike and others. Taking all of the political bullshit out of it I don't think he would be a good fit for the Steelers even if he agreed to come in as a backup. He is 32 and the Steelers don't run anything like the read-option type offense he excelled in at SF. I don't think he could run the "Ben offense" better than Duck or Mason. If he is willing to be a backup he'd fit much better in Baltimore, KC or Seattle. JMO
Duck should be working at Arby's.Baltostiller wrote: ↑Thu Jun 18, 2020 4:34 pmI don't think he could run the "Ben offense" better than Duck or Mason.
Mason very well might join him for the afternoon shift if he plays like he did much of last year.
Kaepernick in his sleep and missing 3 years would be elevated above both of these nice young fellas the second he was signed.
For a reason.
Besides, Baltimore fans were concerned Lamar Jackson couldn't play in Joe Flacco's offense when Jackson took over.

Eddie Van Halen had one of the best guitar tones ever IMO.
Up to the 1984 album.
Have always hated his “new” tone.
Not sure if his collaboration with Peavy had anything to do with it but whatever he changed to from his original Marshall set-up stinks.

Yes & the other one didn't look so good, either. It's not that I'm stuck on CK but if Ben goes down , Ck can run an offense & win. Are there any other real possibilities that the Steelers can afford. Perhaps, the Steelers can't afford CK, as well but Goodell wants CK signed so I can see a cap variance allowed somehow.
I would be highly opposed to a cap variance.
