Steelers sign Safety Curtis Riley
Per Rapoport:
Free agent safety Curtis Riley, who started three games for the #Raiders last year, is signing with the #Steelers, source said. He took a physical there today. In 2018, he was an every down starter for the #Giants

funny stuff Kodiak.
Took me a few seconds.
Does anyone think he has a shot at making the roster?
being the 4th safety? or last DB on the roster?
Minka
Edmunds
M Allen
Dangerfield
Antoine Brooks Jr
Riley
Does he play special teams?
2018 with Giants - 4 INTs, including one pick six, 5 PD and 75 tackles
3 starts with Raiders last year. = 19 starts last 2 years.
So he has been on the field, which shows hope as potentially a 4th or 5th safety at minimum.
Tomlin love Dangerfield and he plays STs.
Make or break year for Marcus Allen.
I like this signing.
Jordan Dangerfield, Marcus Allen and Antoine Brooks are all strong safety types. They also have combined for just 3 NFL starts and 38 tackles with 0 INTs.
Curtis Riley has 19 NFL starts and 121 tackles with 5 INTs, 1 for a TD. He is more of a free safety, 6'0" 190 pounds. This signing fills a pretty big hole on the roster in terms of backups at that safety position.
You had Minkah and Edmunds as the starters and then 3 in the box safeties behind them. If Minhah gets hurt you really didn't have a free safety to plug in there, they might have had to plug in Cam Sutton.
I think the backup safeties should have one who is a SS and one who is a FS. Kam Kelly was that FS backup last year and Riley should be the new FS backup this year.

Definitely puts Dangerfield, Allen on the roster bubble IMHO. I agree with Scunge Brooks is that SS type. Needing depth behind Fitzpatrick is a no brainer.

Good, need someone to push bums like Marcus Allen off the roster. What a wasted draft pick.
