Is 3 really better then 2
Everyone talks about the dark years, the 80's, which I remember quite vividly. The 80's had multiple losing seasons with only 2 playoff victories with the likes of over the hill Bradshaw, David Woodley, Mark Malone, and Broadway Bubby at the helm with not much support anywhere else on those teams.
These last 10 years have had no losing seasons but only 3 playoff victories with a HOF qb and a great supporting cast. If you ask me, these last 10 years have been equally if not more dark, knowing this team is going to shit the bed during the playoffs.
Rooney has to see that 3 is really not much better then 2 when the main goal is championships right?

I’m really rethinking my emotional attachment to this team going forward.
As long as Tomlin is the HC, I’m taking a big step backwards in just how much I’ll let myself get sucked into the shit show Coach Mike creates.
I was so embarrassed to be a Steeler fan Sunday night.

Here's an interesting perspective:
Chuck Noll won 4 SB's
Bill Cowher went to 6 AFCC's
Mike Tomlin has won a playoff game in just 4 out of 14 years.

You could have said Tomlin went to 3 AFCCG and went 1-1 in SB— it’s still damning in a way but it’s a better comparison.

I also could have said Tomlin hasn't won a playoff game in 8 of the last 10 years.bradshaw2ben wrote: ↑Wed Jan 13, 2021 1:49 amYou could have said Tomlin went to 3 AFCCG and went 1-1 in SB— it’s still damning in a way but it’s a better comparison.

from literally the first play of the game, totally embarassed, only to make a miraculous comeback, and embarassed with the 4th and 1 punt all over again
Unfortunately true. And like you said....by a mile. We were a laughing stock.955876 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 13, 2021 1:55 amNo team looked more pathetic on wild card weekend than we did.Jizz Mop wrote: ↑Wed Jan 13, 2021 1:10 amI’m really rethinking my emotional attachment to this team going forward.

yeah... it's just a personal bias I have against in blank of the past blank years. Take the totality when measuring. You don't need to hyperbolize. He should have given his team better chances to win this game, and shouldn't have given up on trusting his own players––that was huge––time to move on.Kodiak wrote: ↑Wed Jan 13, 2021 1:50 amI also could have said Tomlin hasn't won a playoff game in 8 of the last 10 years.bradshaw2ben wrote: ↑Wed Jan 13, 2021 1:49 amYou could have said Tomlin went to 3 AFCCG and went 1-1 in SB— it’s still damning in a way but it’s a better comparison.

This is all true. Also, why we need to have some forced change. I lose a little more love for this game every year. This year I’m probably gonna lose a bigger chunk if we don’t get some positive change.
The original comparison was quite fair, and made the point. You like to say he's did just as much as Cowher with the 1-1 SB comparison, but Cowher went deeper into the playoffs much more often. And that counts for something, too.bradshaw2ben wrote: ↑Wed Jan 13, 2021 4:06 pmyeah... it's just a personal bias I have against in blank of the past blank years.Kodiak wrote: ↑Wed Jan 13, 2021 1:50 amI also could have said Tomlin hasn't won a playoff game in 8 of the last 10 years.bradshaw2ben wrote: ↑Wed Jan 13, 2021 1:49 amYou could have said Tomlin went to 3 AFCCG and went 1-1 in SB— it’s still damning in a way but it’s a better comparison.
The point was Tomlin has only won games in 4 post seasons, and that's a pretty far cry from 6 AFCC's. And even farther from 4 SB's. The point was to illustrate that Tomlin really isn't in the same league as Noll or even Cowher in the playoffs.

Post season:
Cowher in 15 seasons, playoff win(s) in 8 seasons. A playoff winning season > 50% of the time, 12-9 overall .571%
Tomlin in 14 seasons, playoff win(s) in 4 seasons. A playoff winning season 28.5% of the time, 8-8 overall .500%
Noll in 23 seasons, Playoff win(s) in 12 seasons. A playoff winning season > 50% of the time, 24-16 overall .667%
Big difference between enjoying all those Cowher years of getting to see our team win in the playoffs more than half his coaching tenure vs 28.5% of Tomlin's.

I’m hoping Tomlin flat out admitting he had to make changes was a sign someone got in his ear and said “What the fuck, man”?Thrillsseeker wrote: ↑Wed Jan 13, 2021 5:17 pm

If Colbert leaves, maybe that’s another shot at him.
I’m not sure I believe Rooney has finally reached his own personal breaking point but...maybe?
The effort Sunday truly was pathetic. The Steelers had all the advantages...and they played like they were the ones who hadn’t practiced all week.

“Yeah we suck, be there is a chance we could suck slightly more if we try to correct the problem.” - Art Deuce (summarized by SteelPerch)
Mike McCarthy, Packers: in his last 10 seasons had at least 1 playoff win in 4 of those seasons. Fired.
Sean Payton, in his last 10 seasons has at least 1 playoff win in 5 of those seasons.
Mike Tomlin, in his last 10 seasons has 2 seasons with a playoff win.
Not only is Mike Tomlin not holding up the Steelers post season standard, he's not up to par with others in the league (without naming Belichick)

It's too late. The time for that was before the 2018 season. He's not digging out of the post season hole he's in unless we have a miracle Lombardi run next year.jeemie wrote: ↑Thu Jan 14, 2021 2:31 amI’m hoping Tomlin flat out admitting he had to make changes was a sign someone got in his ear and said “Ehat the fuck, man”?Thrillsseeker wrote: ↑Wed Jan 13, 2021 5:17 pm

He hasn't done shit without Cowher's coaches and players.
Actually could have been a run or two, and maybe made a real case for himself, if it hadn't taken him like 8 years to rebuild the roster. That's an eternity in the NFL. There's a lot of things Tomlin has managed to fuck-up in order to win just 3 playoff games in a decade with a HOF QB.

Add in Bell and Brown and it makes you wonder what could have been with a coach that took advantage of the roster he had.
Ben
Bell
Brown
is a nightmare for a D to face.

And if you compare who was QBing for each of those HC's, Cowhers resume is quite impressive.Havoc wrote: ↑Thu Jan 14, 2021 2:24 amPost season:

too come out looking as sloppy and unprepared as they did was truly shocking and embarassing, and then you factor in those 2 punts and wow that was awful

As someone whose loyalties to this team were forged through the eighties, I couldn't disagree with you more. Comparing the 80's to our current playoff win blight isn't even in the same galaxy of disappointment.Stlcrtn1974 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 13, 2021 12:47 amThese last 10 years have had no losing seasons but only 3 playoff victories with a HOF qb and a great supporting cast. From '84-'91 we were a consistently mediocre team in what was considered prior to realignment, the weakest division in the weaker football conference.
My earliest football memory is watching us get sodomized by Dan Marino in the AFCC on a little black and white TV with my brother. Followed by YEARS of regularly being worked over by the likes of the Bengals and Browns who enjoyed superior quarterbacking and coaching, and we had Chuck Noll as our HC ! Think about that -for eight seasons we had all of two playoff appearances and that '84 division title, with five losing seasons (including a 5-11 campaign in '88) and no double-digit win totals.
Since the day that Cowher arrived, I've seen us play in nine conference title games and four trips to the dance, winning it all twice. That's a pretty good return on my fandom. Some disappointment - Cowher in particular being the king of the AFC Championship dick-tease, and both coaches losing a few playoff games that they shouldn't have, but those SB wins taught me how hard it is to reach that peak and how special it is when we do, and playoff losses and disappointments are stepping stones to that payoff.

I want to apologize to Bill Cowher. I stated this past season he and Tomlin are the same. They are not and it's not close.
The post season standard Bill Cowher upheld in terms of seasons with a playoff win has been removed the past 10 years with Mike Tomlin.
Bill Cowher > Mike Tomlin
