JJ Watt to be released
is there any chance?
Yay!
Zeke said we're now going to get him for the league minimum!

So you're saying there's a chance?
Nothing left to do but smile, smile, smile...
Feels weird to say, but.....classy move by the Texans.
There's no cap penalty for releasing him, and given all he's done for the team/city, he's earned the right to choose his next destination.

Well the entire city of Pittsburgh just got a premature offseason chubby.
How about a pass rush with dueling Watts on either side? You can never have too many Watts.

Are you sure about that? I thought we had one too many last season.

Pay him what we were going to to keep Wormley around.

He’s only 31. Feels like he’s been in the league forever.
Bring him in.
Bring him in.

This is all part of Tomlin's master plan to restore the sanctity of the fullback position, and the youngest Watt shall soon join the exalted ranks of such giants of the gridiron as Carey Davis, Dan Kreider, and Jon Witman.

Nothing says "getting great value out of a player" like paying a fullback when your offense is run entirely out of the shotgun.

I’d def sign him. The dude is a leader and his intensity is needed on this team. I’d hire him as player and coach and tell Tomlin to get fucked.

all the watts are overrated hotheads who have never won anything (except Mike and Naomi)
i have zero doubt he will be vastly overpaid in Pittsburgh

First, didn't say it.
Second, I said I'd check-in with him to see because the family ties might be really motivating to him.
Third, I did say he very likely would be released after some people objected that he is under contract. A day later...he was released.

Sure I’d sign JJ if the price was rightsmithessmokin wrote: ↑Fri Feb 12, 2021 3:13 pmPay him what we were going to to keep Wormley around.
Trade inconsistent Stephon Tuitt
Nets Steelers some premium draft capital
Cap savings along with Pouncey retiring and Ben restructuring
Sign Packers UFA center Corey Lindley or more likely draft Bama OC Landon Dickerson
Draft a LT and a stud rb
Give Tomlin a brain transplant
Make a run at Lombardi #7

Maybe the advanced analytics were telling them it was good to have some spare Wattage on offense.StillerInCT wrote: ↑Fri Feb 12, 2021 3:39 pmYup.

Left out he’s also the 2nd highest paid FB in the league.
One would think he’d be used accordingly.

Maybe instead of running Derek Watt into the line TWICE during a playoff game, they'll do it three times.
"So, we have to proceed with caution, but when you’re pursuing greatness, risk-taking is a part of it. Calculated risk-taking. That’s what you’re talking about when you’re drawing up big plays schematically.”
Hard pass.
Tuitt was 9th in the league last year with 11 sacks, and he played over 75% of snaps on defense. He's only 27 and his contract really isn't bad.
You're not trading for 2014 JJ Watt in this scenario. You're trading for a 32 year old who's had season ending injuries in 3 of the past 5 seasons. Oh, and depth at DE is still razor thin.
I'm sorry, but in 2021 Stephon Tuitt > JJ Watt.

Had to post it lol
JJ Watt is being released...don’t need to trade for him, he’s a FA.Pabst wrote: ↑Fri Feb 12, 2021 5:20 pmHard pass.

I believe the suggestion was trade Tuitt for draft picks.

32 years old, will command good money, been hurt 3 of the last 5 years and wants to go somewhere he has a shot to win a SB in the next two years. Can’t say I see this being a good fit for either side.
I understand that. What I'm saying is that, at this point in time, Watt would be a downgrade from Tuitt. Trading away Tuitt to make room to sign Watt would be a mistake.

He’s said he doesn’t care about the money, he just wants to go to a team that wins.Steelperch wrote: ↑Fri Feb 12, 2021 5:46 pm32 years old, will command good money, been hurt 3 of the last 5 years and wants to go somewhere he has a shot to win a SB in the next two years. Sorry, I misunderstood.
Keep Tuitt, bring in JJ if the numbers work...now you’ve got your quality depth. In a perfect world...

Seems more like a Bills or Titans target based on what he is looking for.

Bills or Packers. Just doesn't make sense for the Steelers.
