Wentz to Indy. Watson Up Next...

Post by Orangesteel » Thu Feb 18, 2021 4:58 pm

Where y’all thinking? 49ers and Panthers I think are the front runners right now based on Internet bullshit.

Colts got Wentz for a 3rd and conditional 2nd. Good lord, that's nothing.

If I were the Niners and want to win now, I'd be going after Watson pretty strong.

The 2nd in 2022 becomes a 1st if he plays 75% of the snaps or if he plays 70% and they make the playoffs. I actually think the Eagles did OK to get a 3rd and good chance at a 1st. I don't think much of Wentz though.

If Wentz starts and plays most of the season that 2022 pick becomes a first rounder.

For as bad as Wentz has looked the past couple of years and with that fat contract? A first and a third isn't a bad haul.

They're also having to pay $25.4m to a guy that has a QB rating of 72.8 last season.

High risk, high reward.

IIUC, contract wise, the Colts get Wentz for 4 more years at a G$ cost of $44M and a total cost of $98M (avg. $24.5/yr)? That's not a bad risk considering the SB success he had under Frank Reich while in in Philly. A Colts team with a GREAT O line, very good RB game and cap room to add some real WR and TE talent, and a pretty good D (when healthy)....that's a pretty smart risk to take, imo.

Over the next four years the QB salaries for just an average QB is going to be at least $25-30M/yr, at least! Based on past performance in Reich's system it's a great move -- especially the draft capital the trade cost. If he plays a lot and they make the playoffs then he's obviously playing well and Philly get a 1st instead of a 2nd in 2022. I'm guessing just about every FO would trade away 32 positions in a future draft to give themselves a very realistic chance of getting into the playoffs and maybe further next year.

Carson Wentz has the same amount of Super Bowl success that I do. In fact, he has one more postseason completion than I do. It was for 3 yards.

Oops, thanks...I forget that Nick the Dick finished off that run, after CW tore his ACL late in the season. But, I do remember Carson having his best years under Reich and in his system. Gotta think that will translate well to Indy -- especially with their O line.

Also, makes my SF drafting job less murky; I have the Colts. :D

I get an extra 3rd to work with thanks to the genius wheelings and dealings of Howie Roseman. Doesn't really compensate for the lost picks many previous years. Thanks again, Howie.

I might actually prefer Rudolph or Dobbs to Wentz.

It's close enough that you have to consider it; which is all you need to know.

Hyperbole alert... Wentz has actually done something in his career. It might be slightly dusty good tape, but it's 10x the good tape of Rudolph and Dobbs combined. They are not NFL starters, and never have been.

Wentz
comp att % yds avg td int lng rt

That's last season

Career

Rudolph / Career

So much for the hyperbole

Soon as Bibberty garners MVP consideration for 34 consecutive seconds, let alone 12 weeks while leading a team to a number one playoff seed, wake me up. Otherwise, yeah, hyperbole. Rudolph is trash. Dobbs is the juice that drips from it.

Don't be angry because you're wrong

And don't misunderstand; I think Rudolph sucks, but I'm equally clear Wentz does too.

Wentz has proven he CAN be a top QB. The question remains if he can be again. I think Reich gives him the best chance to do that. He's going into a perfect situation, imo.

We've watched a different Carson Wentz.

He's mediocre at best.

One is a former MVP candidate, the other two are trash and juice. I could show you Wentz's first two season stats as a starter vs. Bibbs if you like. Saying either of our two backups are better is silly, unless you're a blind man reading stats by braille. We'll see if he regains pre-injury form in Indy. Even if not, he at least qualifies as a has-been. Bibberty and the Rocket Man are never was, never is and never will be.

I have no idea why you are so twisted about Carson Wentz.

To say he was an MVP Candidate is like saying Ben has been an MVP Candidate.

A- that's just media bullshit
B- any consideration was a function of the team's performance, not the QB specifically
C- he never won it, and never came close

His statistics show his decidedly mid to lower tier

Not too much to argue with on that.

Team and injury had considerable amounts to do with the bad as well as the good. It's what comes of watching games not reading statistics. They're nice, but they don't tell 1/3 of the story. It's why Wentz actually garnered some decent picks in a trade and has an NFL starting job in 2021, and Bibberty wouldn't and doesn't. So I can be done talking to you, we'll agree to disagree.

So I guess it's not Wentzylvania anymore? Wentziana?

That's okay. It was always Bensylvania anyway.

He looks exactly like the Liberty Bibberty guy from the Liberty Mutual commercial a couple years back. Plays like it, too.

If I was used to having professional guards, I'd have been disappointed with Philly's offensive line, too.

Wentz looks like someone for the Colts to be excited about, but his history of success with Reich is part of that package.

Were it the Steelers, adding Marcus Mariota or Mitch Trubisky would peak my interest more.

Factoring in the costs to obtain them, those are two quarterbacks of about an equal threshold of potential in my mind. Players which have either played in a system which failed their abilities, or where the franchise quit their development.

...what little I have watched of Canada’s offensive system, it looks like it could thrive with a player of Mariota’s skill set.

Trubisky's mobility could offer more than Rudolph over an extended period of time in my mind, but were it just for next season Mason might could out play him.
