Pens vs Islanders (2/18/21)
Pens vs Islanders (2/18/21)
Well....Tuesday sucked.
McCann and Dumo are skating again. Riikola is back with the taxi squad.
The Isles have somehow surged to 2nd place in the division, going 5-0-1 in their last 6.
Jarry starts in net for the 3rd straight game.
Weird stat of the day: McDavid hit 500 career points last night....in the exact same number of games as Sidney Crosby. True story, the only non-Pittsburgh pro sports jersey I own is a Connor McDavid Erie Otters jersey.

Agreed, Tuesday sucked. It may have been Sid's worst game this year.
Let's turn it around tonight.
Let's Go Pens!

Kap to the top line and Rust on the second

Nice
1-0
1-0
First time in a while I watched a game on a treadmill. Maybe that's what we've been missing?
Jarry has been fantastic.

Don’t have a feed but love what I’m seeing in the box score.

Isles were gooning it up alot today.
Man....I forgot what a non-nailbiter win felt like.

Jarry was fantastic is right! And Sid's deflection on the 1st goal was insanely good.
The new line combos seemed to inspire life in both top lines. Rust brings out the best in Geno. Zucker scored but he has to be infuriating to play with. Clumsy with the puck in open ice and misses finishes at an alarming rate for such a high-skilled player.

Nice win. Jarry played great. Liked the switch with Rust/Kapp. I think it will help Malkin, too.
Matheson has been an offensive breath of fresh air on D.
I know Hockey is more than this, but having everyone playing like there hair is on fire for 60 minutes probably is the biggest difference between winning and losing. Like NFL special teams, it comes down to effort.

I have my issues with Sullivan and this is one of the big ones. What took him so long to get 17/71 back together?
Since Rust got to the Pens lineup he and Malkin have been a nice combo. Remember when it was those two and Kunitz? The same line that went nearly 8 games in the Stanley cup playoffs(conference finals, SC finals) without letting up a goal back in 2016.
So far, IMO Zucker isn't a fit for this roster and for some of the reasons you outlined.
Matheson has put together a few very good games and having Pettersson back is big. Nice accurate shot is need from the blue line and he offers it.
Considering how the game concluded, it might get a bit ugly on Saturday.
Zucker is looking every bit Brassard part two. Sullivan's handling of lines really infuriates me over the last couple of years. Sometimes he'll over-juggle the lines for no apparent reason, others, he'll stick with groups when even a Joe Average fan like me can tell it isn't working, for weeks, hell, months. Maddening.
Still, I'll agree with Pabst, nice to see a wire to wire win with no real drama (trauma?) to it.

Nothing left to do but smile, smile, smile...
