Great teams start with Olines. We keep building D...which is awesome but which eventually wears out and guys get injured from being out there so much. Olines control games. Colbert's biggest mistake this offseason was not using his trade capital on Oline.
But we got a big fat running back to make art2, Mike Tomlin, and a portion of the fan base happy. Dumb pick. Should have went oline in the first and go for a speed back slasher later round.
What OL would you have drafted at 24? The next OL after Harris was 13 picks later and it was a center.
Tevan Jenkins?
EIchneberg?
Neither of those guys are better than Harris.
The Steelers did draft two starting OL this draft.
Everyone knew coming in that this rebuilt OL was going to take time. You just can't go out draft or sign new players and expect them to gel from the start.
Chuks was fine in the first half but like normal he wore down. I'd give Haeg a shot next week at RT, but the answers to a better OL aren't on the roster so we have to wait and hope they get better every week.

Najee is far from fat and appears to be a very good player.
Your broader point t is valid though. No RB, no matter how good is going to be a consistent difference maker behind a bad oline paired with a QB that at this point if we are being honest scares no defense.
Teams can stack the box to play against our run AND pass.
Pop gun offense isn’t winning shit.

I know. I was being facetious. But if this O line doesn't get better fast, the above won't matter. The WR group is also widely inconsistent. All we can do is hope the D can get players back, soon.
Well, the good news is that everyone on the offense not named Ben Roethlisberger is still very young, so there's good reason to believe they can improve with time.

You have to remember to, these guys looking at drafts.... they probably look and compare players to previous years... this Tackle class was so deep that when they get to R4... they might look at a guy like Dan Moore and see him as a guy who could have been a R2 talent in previous years, so you can wait to take a guy like that in a later round.
Given this line, I think they realize its not a 1 year thing.

Even Tomlin’s choice of wearing black…guy just has a sub 80 IQ.
I get what you’re saying, but when have the Steelers ever not worn black at home? I’m guessing that’s not a choice Tomlin gets to make.
I thought this before the game and think Jobu is right. The only time I recall switches are when the home team makes us, or throwbacks.

Alualu with a fractured ankle.
If they don't make a move at QB, I'm afraid it really won't matter how good the defense is.

I woke up this morning feeling like this game was a loss. Raiders, after all. Worst part is all the injuries before and during the game.
Positives, Ben is old but he can still throw the rock. Claypool, DJ, Najee, Muth are weapons. Coaching staff needs to establish the run, going back to last season. O-line is a mess but even there I see improvement coming later in the year. Steelers will have to stay above .500 or they will slip away.

Yeah, he can still hit those 3-5 yarders... most of the time.

Missed the second half to ride bikes with my seven year old. We won, right?

Offense needs to involve more Muth and Harris in the passing game.
I'd include Juju in that as well.
Dionte Johnson will get open and make chatches, but he can't be a focus.
Chase Claypool is too worried about his brand, Benny Snell should pull a groin

God Ben limping to shake Carr’s hand.
Ben two weeks in looks hobbled and slow
All those shots he's taking are taking its toll. Chuks needs to go and hopefully Banner can be back and better. They really need to get another RT and Green might not be strong enough to handle the middle and get push.

This offense has looked like shit in both First Halves. The lack of any run game and the inability to make a big play add the defensive injuries does not bold well for this team

Offense isn’t good and our second string D isn’t good either.
0 turnovers, and Carr was great all game.
Maybe the All 22 will show Ben not seeing open guys, but every pass he did throw more than a couple yards downfield went into tight coverage.
I think this should be an obvious statement, but without Watt, Tuitt, Haden, and Alualu this is a bad football team.
And you forgot Bush.

Losing Alualu hurts.
Hope Tuit can come back and get up to football speed soon.
Big help that Watt held out and then is out.

Somebody mentioned it in this thread.....The intermediate passing game has been missing from this offense for a few years now. Everything is a quick hitter or a deep throw. Nothing in between, and hardly any passes over the middle.
And hey, aren't we paying a fullback a bunch of $? I have no idea whether/not it'll do any good, but trotting Watt out there will at least mix things up.

Down two scores, 4th quarter, 6 key defensive players out injured and you elect to punt on 4th and 1 when your defense hasn’t stopped anyone the entire 2H. That’s a coaching loss and utter cowardice.

Ben has shown so good ability to move but never was a runner, the OL giving up alot of hits especially when there NO Running Game.
I am a bit concerned about Claypool and Johnson

It was 4th down and less than half a yard.

Complete surrender
Howard Griffith had to resort to chop-blocking him during the 1997 AFC Championship Game. An incredulous Kirkland asked Griffith, “Why do you have to use cheap tactics like chop-blocking?” Griffith replied “Why do you have to be a 300-pound linebacker?”
