I thought for sure he'd miss but if the Raiders just let the clock run out, that coach gets blasted in the media and never has another shot at a HC position in the NFL. You can take that to the bank.
Howard Griffith had to resort to chop-blocking him during the 1997 AFC Championship Game. An incredulous Kirkland asked Griffith, “Why do you have to use cheap tactics like chop-blocking?” Griffith replied “Why do you have to be a 300-pound linebacker?”

Agree. They milked it down and realized there would be forever a stain on the coach or team that did intentionally try not to win

It’s would have many people turning off the tv. But they took us to the edge

Collinsworth is great and shows much reverence and respect to Pittsburgh every broadcast, even when the Steelers have nothing to do with the game he’s actually calling. I never got the Collinsworth hate.

He’s cocky as hell and can’t hide it, but man he’s so damn good at his job. The stuff he just instantly picks up on in these games always impresses me. Win or lose next week he’ll be effusive in his praise of Ben and Tomlin.

I think he is the best. I give him the nod over Romo and Aikman too.

I know when he does our games he knows about the broken nose! Would any other announcer have been speechless over Ben’s incompletion? He gushed over the incompletion as much as he has over a miraculous catch!

He loves the Steelers because he loves football! He loves the Steelers because he was a receiver and he knew what AB and Ben were doing was insane.

He could write an autobiography on Ben or the Steelers of the 2000s and we would all say…God damn he gets it!

I mean, he's actually nowhere near as poisonous as he used to be when he was on his previous NFL gigs. It's still there, sure, but I remember it as having been considerably worse. He does a pretty damn good job of calling the game, too. I'd take him over the former Cryboys Aikman and Romo to call my game.

That said, will probably have my game muted with music as usual to start on Sunday night. Leaves putting on the announcers as a possible juju reversal measure (been put into effect more than once this season, including two games yesterday).
Nothing left to do but smile, smile, smile...

I don’t get the Collinsworth hate.

He does a good job.

Can he be a little overbearing? Yes, but he’s never really bothered me.

You’re mad because he was offering a justification for the Raiders or Chargers coaches to play for a tie at the end?

Don’t be…I guarantee you if the Steelers were in the exact same position as the Raiders and Chargers last night, you would have been pushing them to do the exact same thing…don’t screw up a chance at the playoffs.

And you would have screamed bloody murder if they had blown the shot being overly aggressive to try and win and losing because of that aggression.

Do not deny it.

the fact that he couldn't get his mind around the risk/reward of trying a FG in an attempt to miss KC in the opening round was beyond me.

Football people don’t think the way we do.

Get in the dance is all they are thinking about.

Guarantee you if that was a 57 yard attempt, Bisaccia is not thinking “shit…if we tie we okay the Chiefs first”.

He’s thinking “if I sit on it I am in…if I try the FG and it’s blocked for a TD…yikes!”

I generally think he’s a pretty good color guy and definitely gets the game. Just feels like he’s got it out for the Stillers - I wonder if any other fan base feels the same way?

The dumbest part about that was that you KNOW there’s no way the Collingsworth Bungles would have played for the tie against the Stillers if it meant both they and the Stillers got in - they would have gleefully twisted the knife to eliminate the hated Division rival.

The Raiders also got a much easier path to the Super Bowl with the win. Hell, they might even host the AFCGC if the Stillers or Patriots show up in the final (not the longest of shots, frankly). I always thought winning the Super Bowl was the goal, not just making the playoffs? The Raiders chances improved significantly with the win rather than the tie.

Shoe on the other foot test...

if it had been the Steelers vs. Raiders and a tie put Cincy out he would have made the same strategic observation.

not every insight that hurts the Steelers is a conspiracy

I think he's always complimentary of the Steelers. He's talked about how much he loves watching Steelers-Ravens games. I don't see that he's down on the Steelers at all.

For the most part I think the announcers go out of their way to praise the Steelers. Even when they don't deserve the praise or they are playing poorly.
I'm not sure it is out of respect for the organization or they don't want to upset the fairly large fanbase but I do hear them routinely criticize other teams.

Now here’s a guy that told him to eat shit and die and he did as good as you POSSIBLY can in such a tight window. An absolute joy to watch Al. He’s gonna be in the league a long time in my opinion.

Can we add Jim Nantz to this discussion?

He shines the shoes for every player and team we play, and repeatedly shits on the Steelers on every broadcast.

Damn near ruins every game I watch with him.

I can live with Romo and Collinsworth, at least they acknowledge we have talent .

I agree.

I've always liked Collinsworth.

Seemed to me he really enjoyed the heyday of the Steelers - Ravens rivalry.

It has always appeared to me that he respects and even admires the Steelers.

I think there’s a major shortage of broadcasting talent both college and pro.

I watched my share of college bowl games over the holiday break and man let me tell you ESPN was really scraping the bottom of the barrel

Mike Golic Jr = nails on a chalkboard

The MNF crew is also beyond bad
Manningcast has its technical warts but at least it’s entertaining

Anyway, Colliinsworth doesn’t bother me and I agree he has an admiration for the Steelers

Trumpy on the other hand… I still remember my mom yelling at that anti Steelers bastard

Dan Fouts another one who couldn’t hide his Steelers disdain

While I’m tangenting…. the pregame shows are pretty damn stale too

I’ll tune in 20-30 minutes before the game time tops

I’d replace James Brown and Curt Menefee with the quickness
Fossils

Howie long, Phil Simms, Boomer Esiason have better job security than Tomlin. Why???

Laura Rutledge just needs her own show
Her own damn network
All Laura all the time
Cooking with Laura
Gardening with Laura
Laundry with Laura
Lounging with Laura….
