Rodgers is playing below the line, which makes this trade make sense if you will
Think his season totals are zero receptions for zero yards
So we are getting a 4th and a bust for Claypool
I don’t even know what to think about this one

No.
Rodgers problem is that he is bad at football. It’s not QB and/or incompetent scheme.
Not sure what portion of Claypool’s problem is Claypool vs. our proven to be utterly incompetent offensive scheme.

I think Claypool is just smart enough to be influenced by the real dawg, G-Pick. I see Chase reverting back to more of that dog mentality he had as a rookie. I saw a small spark of it in the second half this last game. I also think JuJu and others softened him last year.
Chase isn't a natural leader, but he does have physical talents and a little bit of dog in him. Pickens is a leader and alpha, no doubt. DJ got paid, so he's just gonna get by and keep his mouth shut as much as possible (this past weekend notwithstanding), imo.
I expect to see Chase improve as the year goes on. He knows he'll have to in order to get paid.
I've seen nothing from Amari Rodgers that makes me think he'll be a reliable starter in this league moving forward.
Next please....

I'd take it.
I'm not resigning claypool, and I think at this point he is what he is - and his attitude isn't what this team needs.
I have other WR
I get to move up from the 7th to the 4th.
I would try to turn the 4th into a 3rd or at the least keep my 7th.

Claypool for basically a 4th? Run to the podium.
Granted, we haven't seen him play yet but let's not forget Austin is coming back soon. Either way, next year would likely be Claypool's last and we'd get squat for him leaving as a FA.
He's producing squat right now, so an R4 is fairly attractive. Although probably late R4, so maybe you can negotiate to sweeten the deal a bit.

Draft value chart,
2nd rounder is worth ~500,
4th rounder ~50.
That’s taking a 90% value loss on a player that (1) looked like a good value in the 2nd round when Canada wasn’t OC (2) could easily net us a 4th or 5th when he walks in FA.
4th round picks usually have the important job of standing on the sidelines in street clothes watching other teams take advantage of a weak spot on the depth chart that exists because the team decided to give a 4th rounder an extra year instead of signing a competent depth FA or UDFA.

Yeah, like requesting 4-5 GB pass plays that utilize the middle of field.Kodiak. wrote: ↑Thu Oct 13, 2022 4:19 pmYep.ToddHaleysNineIron wrote: ↑Thu Oct 13, 2022 3:50 pmI'd take it.

I don't think we can write off Claypool's entire rookie season--it's eleven tds--as a fluke. He's been bad, but is largely the victim of horrific coaching and scheme. He should be streaking across the middle and rumbling that big body for extra yards; instead, we've turned him into a gadget running back, who occasionally runs a deep route down the sideline. A quality coordinator would still be licking his chops at his potential, IMO. That fact that BOTH Chase's and DJ's promising starts completely stalled, that they keep repeating the same mistakes and have even regressed, is an extra indictment of coaching. Does anyone trust that a coach who says "you'll figure it out" is helping them progress? As for their attitudes, it's one thing to be a "good soldier" if you're someone like Ben or Cam who has made your fortune, feels loyal to the organization, and is nearing the end. It's another when your fledgling reputation and future dollars are being shit all over by an incompetent staff. If we were to have an overhaul in offensive coaching and scheme, I'd be open to keeping Chase. And if we're not, then I suppose it doesn't really matter who is suiting up.
I'd dump Johnson for a pick before Claypool. Clear him and his cap hit. I don't know you can fix Johnson's inability to catch the ball consistently at this point. Claypool could use a new coach that would teach him how to play WR. I've been saying that since they drafted him. He's either not smart enough to learn the position or hasn't been taught. If he can't learn, then sure, get rid of him for what ever you can. If it's coaching, bring in a damn WR coach that knows how to teach. His size, strength and speed combo simply can't be taught.
Howard Griffith had to resort to chop-blocking him during the 1997 AFC Championship Game. An incredulous Kirkland asked Griffith, “Why do you have to use cheap tactics like chop-blocking?” Griffith replied “Why do you have to be a 300-pound linebacker?”
Are you kidding?
I would take Wilford Brimley's dead body for Claypool and would be giddy about it.
GET ANYTHING YOU CAN FOR HIM.

Seems pretty simple to make it a conditional pick, R4 worst-case scenario but possibly R2 or something like that if he tears it up.

Both need to go, but Claypool isn't just terrible. He also 100% doesn't care that he's terrible.
Diontae cares, he just can't do anything about it. He's always going to struggle with drops.
Claypool is beyond help because he already thinks he's great. You realize this dude called himself a top 3 WR BEFORE this season, right?
After a 100% disgraceful year in 2021, this TikToking piece of shit proclaims he's a top 3 WR. No kidding.
You ain't fixing that turd. Flush him.

Again, your scenario would be one that I find unrealistic, but if it happens the Steelers should throw a party.
Realistically (and this is what I expect will happen) Claypool will be traded before next April's draft for a 5th rounder. No conditions, just a 5th rounder. A 6th rounder wouldn't shock me and if I were an NFL team, that's probably all I would offer up for Claypool.

I mean.....the dude believes he's a top 3 WR in the NFL. Top 3. After what he put up in 2021.
He honest to Christ couldn't care less about getting better and.....wait for it....he won't.

I get what you're saying but our coaching looks like shit too. Bottom of the league just like our record. To me, he looks like he doesn't know how to play the position. He looks like runs poor routes, jumps at the wrong time, asks to come out when they are driving, just a lot of dumb shit. He may just not be intelligent enough to learn. I don't know but he may be salvageable with a good, strong influence that knows how to coach. Maybe not but if you're looking to move one WR, I move Johnson all day long because you move the cap hit too. Plus, I think someone would give up a higher pick because they'll look at his catch numbers. But then again, he may make too much for anyone to fit him under the cap. Who knows, teams may say our roster has too much stink to take anyone off of it. The Steeler way is to do nothing so we're probably wasting our time even talking about it.K_C_ wrote: ↑Thu Oct 13, 2022 5:37 pmNo.RemoAZ wrote: ↑Thu Oct 13, 2022 5:28 pmI'd dump Johnson for a pick before Claypool. I wish to Christ you were right, that Claypool might be salvageable, but I just don't see any "want to" from the guy. Absolutely none.RemoAZ wrote: ↑Thu Oct 13, 2022 6:15 pmI get what you're saying but our coaching looks like shit too. Bottom of the league just like our record. I'd love to see both Diontae and Claypool traded but there's one thing I can guarantee you: unless Claypool figures his shit out and fast, he's gone. That's a certainty. Diontae got paid and because the guy actually works hard at his craft (doesn't seem to be helping at all, but he IS trying) I don't believe the Steelers will move him.
I see absolutely no chance in hell Claypool is a Steeler in 2023 and I'm not at all worried about him going somewhere else and unleashing his serious potential due to better coaching. You have to want to get better. Claypool talks a good game, but you never really see (nor hear about him) putting in the work.

I knew as soon as this turd talked smack to the Browns after they lost (a week after blowing us off the field) that he was a POS with zero self awareness
I’ve asked this before
No one answered
Have we, as fans, hit rock bottom?
The franchise? Rock bottom?

Just a reminder for those claiming that the Steelers have no players worth trading…
They got a 5th round pick for Josh freaking Dobbs a few years ago.

Look, 9 times out of 10 he will make a catch. What more do you want from him!!!

This team needs players that are excited to be part of the organization. That has to be part of the fix.
