LETS GO BUCS !
Re: LETS GO BUCS !
Only comment I have is that the Nationals may be sadder…what the Padres just did to them was highway robbery.
But at least Washington got a World Championship before decaying back into the Natinals.

While I get why we have knee jerk reactions to anything the Pirates do, I'm pretty sure this had to do with 40 man roster management to keep guys playing they still hoped to trade, like Yoshi who they now had to cut. Holderman is now on the major league roster. I'm pretty sure these guys know how that works, and if not someone with the front office should make sure it's clear.
Bucs struggle with optics even when they just do normal stuff that every ball club does. I get and understand that. They have an uphill climb to restore trust. If that is even possible.

Yeah I don't give a shit. Always LOVE seeing us hurt the f'ing Brewers!! Gotta get your joy where you can as a Buccos fan.
Not sure I buy that.MJG75 wrote: ↑Thu Aug 04, 2022 8:47 amWhile I get why we have knee jerk reactions to anything the Pirates do, I'm pretty sure this had to do with 40 man roster management to keep guys playing they still hoped to trade, like Yoshi who they now had to cut. But Holderman is back I up so that’s good.
Is Suwinski back up? Because he should be. I don’t see him needing more minor league seasoning. I see him as having to figure out major league pitching or go bust.
And to do that…he needs to face major league pitching.

Don’t know why, but I never developed a hatred for Milwaukee.
Probably because they weren’t good when we were.

Agreed with them sending Jack down when they did. He was lost. Didn't know how to take pitches. However he has turned it around a bit in AAA and he definitely should be up and starting. If he's Dave Kingman, then that's what he is. And we can use that for sure. His defense is also considered excellent as well, which is another reason to play him every day in the OF.jeemie wrote: ↑Thu Aug 04, 2022 3:49 pmNot sure I buy that.MJG75 wrote: ↑Thu Aug 04, 2022 8:47 amWhile I get why we have knee jerk reactions to anything the Pirates do, I'm pretty sure this had to do with 40 man roster management to keep guys playing they still hoped to trade, like Yoshi who they now had to cut. Different topic, but what have you thought about Shelton?
Also, how's it been going man? Been a while since we had a back and forth convo. Hope all is going great for you.

I don’t know what to think of Shelton. He needs to have a team capable of playing Major League ball before I can make any judgements.
Yeah I didn’t mind Suwinski going down, but I think now is the time for him to come back up and see if he has anything.
There were people who wanted to send Cruz down…those people are insane. For sure, Cruz has nothing left to prove at AAA and just needs to learn how to hit ML pitching on the job.
Time for Roansy to come back up as well.

Yikes. Eckersley scorches you guys. Will they ever get a real owner? I was a Pirates fan before we got the Dbacks. Getting them combined with the pathetic ownership drove me away from the Pirates. Loved the teams up through the Bonds, Bonilla, Van Slyke outfield. Was so Happy when they drafted Bonds. Saw him hit home runs in person with ASU, Hawaii, the Pirates and later with the Giants. Anyway, thought I'd share this blast by Eckersley I just saw on Twitter. That owner obviously doesn't give a shit. Feel bad for you guys. Baseball is totally unwatchable to me anymore with the financial structure the way it is but what he's been doing to the Pirates for what seems like forever is shameful.

Howard Griffith had to resort to chop-blocking him during the 1997 AFC Championship Game. An incredulous Kirkland asked Griffith, “Why do you have to use cheap tactics like chop-blocking?” Griffith replied “Why do you have to be a 300-pound linebacker?”

And yet, there are still those that will continue to support them. Watch games, go to games, buy merch, make excuses…
Even if the “structure” of MLB was set up better, does anyone really believe Nutting would be running his ballclub any differently. He’s the Paul Brown of MLB…bottom line, bottom, bottom line!
Hey, anyone that wants to keep lining Nuttings pocket, knock yourself out. As for me…I’m out. There are other options, better options, more entertaining options!

I haven’t gone to a game in a few years. That said, from everything I’ve read, attendance doesn’t even make that big a difference in Nutting’s decision making. The MLB’s profit sharing model ensures Nutting makes a profit whether you go to the game or not.Jobu wrote: ↑Wed Aug 17, 2022 12:26 pmAnd yet, there are still those that will continue to support them. Could he make more money if more more people went? Sure. But not going isn’t a deterrent for him to keep doing what he’s doing.
The Pirates were all pissed about Eck’s comments.
Blake Shelton opined it the comments might fire the team up to play better and “get revenge” that way.
Their first chance was yesterday…against these same Red Sox.
They lost 8-3.
If that doesn’t say it all…
Oh and for those that claim Eck had no right to talk because the Red Sox themselves were in last place?
That is such bullshit. Yeah they are in last place. They are also 59-59…they happen to be in a loaded division.
They are far closer to contention than the Pirates.

We kicked their asses the next night behind our two best hitters and JT who looked fired the fuck up. This was the payback game..
Look Eck's comments were Bush league but they were also right on the money. What needs to be said more often.
I am frankly a bit concerned with this latest rebuild. They have to get it right this time. Let's just start with the abysmal hitting. Aside from Reynolds and Newman there doesn't seem to be a legit hitter among these bums. Highly rated prospects. This is a problem throughout all levels as well. Not just the majors. Then the pitching. I see we have more talent than ever but the coaching and development? Yikes. Huge question mark. Tough for this fan base in particular to get excited about guys coming up barely hitting, or in some cases hitting well below, the Mendoza line.

I make no excuses to anybody for loving the game of baseball and the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Pirates have been around since 1887. Nutting is a blip in the firmament. He's shameful but he won't be here forever. And the Pirates have been around a lot longer than that bonehead.Jobu wrote: ↑Wed Aug 17, 2022 12:26 pmAnd yet, there are still those that will continue to support them. The Hodgepodge of Nothingness is making a valiant effort to not finish in last place.
I bet this will be cause for great celebration in Nutting Land if they managed to pull it off.

They even suck at sucking lol.
In my fantasy league, we actually have a “trophy” for the team that finishes next to last. We call it the Joe Mays Award. The year we named it, Mays had an affinity for being a shitty pitcher who would however not suck enough when you needed him to (and he actually had one halfway decent season as well).
The Joe Mays Trophy winner gets the “prize” of…you guessed it…drafting next to last the following year.

Congrats to the Nattering Nabobs of Nutting ... Pirates finish with back-to-back 100-loss seasons for the first time in nearly 70 years of franchise history. All the near-glorious achievements of the 20-teens --- the "Blackout Game", Griiled Cheese from the bullpen, the Batman searchlight in the sky, Cutch with extra-inning walkoff hits and spectacular fielding plays --- all loooong gone.
I think I watched 2 or 3 times this season ... a few years ago I wouldn't miss a game. Didn't bother to go to any of the west coast games when they came out here either. Ironically they swept the Doyers here for the first time in eternity
Absolute travesty what this owner (and his immediate predecessors) have done to a once-proud team ... Hope he goes bankrupt

We'll see how the team will potentially go, and whether The Nut has even enough $$ to fun a rebuild all the way or not, when we see who they go out and get for 1B/DH and potentially a SP or some RP's that are worth a damn. If we are basement bottom dwelling again, we know what the season will likely look like: A lot of kids playing with bums and see how it plays out. If we go out like we did in 2012/2013, we'll have something in a year or two, I predict. No thanks to The Nut, but to a change in leadership in the FO, for the most part.
I'm still not sold on Sheltie 3 years in, as he seems to be a loser with no clear message. We'll see, though, as to be fair, he was given a lot of raw and lesser talent to work with. However, his decisions, mandated by the FO or not, often were the moves of losers, not winners. I'm looking for someone who has some boldness to them, and I don't see it in Shelton.
Thoughts welcome, but we all know about The Nut and how disappointing and soul crushing it has been, and still looks to be if we don't make some serious $$ moves. This off-season, though it's not always about the money, this time, it really is. If we want to compete in a division that seems fairly weak, time is now, Nut.
*Sign Reynolds long term (at least beyond his arb years). His season was sub-par for him, though still decent enough to be our best player. He has a very tough agent, so it will have to be a real offer. Do it.
*Play Oneill and Jack every day. Bring up Bae and/or Swaggerty for the other OF spot and play them every day until they prove you wrong.

Dejan says it’s gonna be more of the same in 2023. And I’m sure it will be.
MJG, this organization/owner has no serious desire to build a winner. The sooner you come to grips with that, the better off you’ll be.

Zabo's OP saying 75 wins is attainable didn't age well, did it? 62 wins on the season. Pathetic. It's not a hodgepodge of nothingness, it's a hodgepodge of NUTTINGness! Top to bottom, the organization is excrement.

Pirates making some early season noise.
Reynolds is pricing himself out of Pittsburgh even more lol. Fucking Nutting…should have given him the opt out at the low price point you got him to agree to.
Now it’s gonna cost even more as he is off to a sizzling start.

How about those Buccos? 4-2, with the sweep of the Bosox. Early but still. I like the makeup of this team, Cutch and Santana's presence making a difference so far in the early going, Reynolds on fire, and how about Mitch Keller? Nice to see that, so far, last year's improvement by Keller may not be a fluke. Pen looks pretty good too. Enjoy it, man.

I want to be optimistic, I really do, but I just can't.....I've been let down too many times.
Bryan Reynolds continues to guarantee he will be gone soon.
Goddamit Nutting just give him his damn opt out already!
Or pay him enough that he doesn’t want it anymore!
