Draft Speculating
Re: Draft Speculating
saw a rumor
On draft night we’re going to see DJ+32 for 12+6th with the Texans.
I will believe it when I see it but I would guess, if they do it, it is for Brodrick Jones or Paris Johnson

I could get behind that.
Nothing left to do but smile, smile, smile...
Is there any team not rumored to be discussing a draft day trade with the Texans right now?
I was watching the Max Kellerman show on the treadmill yesterday and I swear that Texans draft trades took up the entire show.

If they feel pretty good about Robinson I could see it
Imo thats a pretty decent trade
Essentially it’s 32 for 12 and a 6th for DJ
Big jump from 32 and only a small drop down on DJ who I gotta think probably nets a 4th on his own

While I know it's probably pure speculation, it is an interesting thought. HOU desperately needs good WRs and recently signed our FA, Steven Sims. Hmmm?
Amazing value for us if it were to play out that way (basically, DJ's value equals pick #31 in this scenario(610 draft value points)). OT/CB@12, CB/OT/WR/EDGE@17 (or trade back a bit), WR/EDGE@49.....plus we'd have a 6th rounder now. And, we'd have about $14M of new cap space this year (with all cap hits considered in this move) to upgrade some spots when the post draft FA cuts happen.
If they have real plans on keeping Robinson (if he works out) next year, I don't see them paying two WRs $28M total -- DJ @ $16M and AR @ $12M. So one of them will probably be gone anyway.
I'll add another interesting thought: Almost all of the recent NFL trades have consisted of receivers (WR/TE) and players that cover them (CB/S).
That trade would create an extra hole in our roster without really giving us an extra pick to help fill holes. So i lean no. But if they’re convinced Brod’s the man, I’m not going to cry over it.
Edit: i guess it beings up question about who they are wanting to use #17 on. I’d rather give up 17 and DJ for say 11+41 (TEN) 13+43 (NYJ) or 14+46 (NE).
Then we can have OT/ (WR or TE) / DL / CB in the top 50 picks. In that trade, we’re down a top 2 WR with 3 top 75 picks to get OT / WR / EDGE / DT / CB / LB.

Draft JSN or Addison at 17

LB would be the only one i worry about. The CB class is deep. Edge is a backup player and DTs that are run stoppers are under valued so will drop.

at this time, the assumption should be that our Edge pick is the starter in 2024 on. There is no one else under contract.
I don’t want a run stopper DT. I want a legit blue chip 3 down guy, and those aren’t available in the late rounds. “CB class is deep” = good ones will still be there in round 2.
I saw on twitter Steelers might acquire Texans 6th pick for grazing rights at acrisure for a small herd of heffers through 2030.
I say do it. Somebody’s gotta clean up all the cow shit on gameday but when you can pull an impact player you do it

I am completely convinced 17 is ILB
They aren't talking about it, at all
All sorts of other commotion, but nothing talking about ilb
IF anyone gets wind of their intent, they'll trade up. Sort of like the cowboys losing their minds when the steelers selected shazier.
I'm about as certain of this as you can be.
Tomlin knows the importance of that position in this D
Its Simpson or Smith at 17.

Also……OTs are falling a bit and there will be some good fits at CB at 49 and 80

There are enough OT & CBs that you can realistically expect one to be available at 32 & 49
No one is "falling" That is all BS hype for clicks. Anyone who knows what they are talking about is not talking. As always, the draft will set the value for the players, not the draftniks.SteelerDayTrader wrote: ↑Fri Apr 21, 2023 10:28 pm

Crazy thought here
I expect the Steelers to draft who they like, slotted where they think they should go
Our resident experts will lose their shit when “their players” aren’t taken where they expected them to be taken
Rinse and repeat

steelers are not moving up to 6 and they might trade the 32nd
I would not touch a WR until the 3rd round. The "top prospects" all scare me, all have glaring holes. Too small, too slow, not aggressive at catch point (Q. Johnson). I'd rather PS grab a rawer prospect with high upside. There are a whole bevy of them and it is an area PS tend to draft very well.
As for rumours, the S2 test is it genuinely a game changer or a lot of noise about a new shiny object test. Be very interesting to see what happens with Stroud.

I hope to hell you're wrong. I still want 2 offensive linemen high. Protecting the young/concussed QB + the running offense they've been wanting to go with for years makes oline the #1 priority in my view. They need to make a huge commitment there. The FAs aren't nearly enough.anpsteel wrote: ↑Fri Apr 21, 2023 8:38 pmI am completely convinced 17 is ILB

Howard Griffith had to resort to chop-blocking him during the 1997 AFC Championship Game. An incredulous Kirkland asked Griffith, “Why do you have to use cheap tactics like chop-blocking?” Griffith replied “Why do you have to be a 300-pound linebacker?”

- I think Dawand Jones is the pick at 32 and the Steelers have their bulldozer RT for the next 10 years
- I expect ILB to be the pick at 17 but CB has a shot if the top ILBs go early
- It sure looks like on paper the Steelers are prepared to avoid IOL this draft but who knows ? The one thing that says they might is you can’t really point to any truly dominant IOL on the roster so again who knows
- Assuming they get Jones at 32 I suspect the plan is to let La’Raven Clark, Chuks, and Moore battle it out for LT this year
- The Steelers have Okorafor listed as “OL” rather than OT. Usually the Steelers are fairly rigid in following their roster designations. This makes me think if Clark or Moore grab the LT spot Chuks might move inside
- I have no idea how the NFL will value Chuks on a C2 but it wouldn’t surprise me if the Steelers re-up him if they get a bargain or either Clark or Moore puts it all together or they draft a top LT next year and bargain price Chuks inside

I sure hope you're right. Smith would be a grand slam pick. There will be a great OT at 32 and terrific CBs at 49 & 80. And 120, and 241 and 251 and in UDFA.anpsteel wrote: ↑Fri Apr 21, 2023 8:38 pmI am completely convinced 17 is ILB

If they draft a OT, I believe if you cut Okafor before June that would free up 10 million.

Where's Karl Brooks going to go? He's a three down guy. I have him as a 4th rounder and he's perfect.Mick wrote: ↑Fri Apr 21, 2023 6:54 pmat this time, the assumption should be that our Edge pick is the starter in 2024 on. There is no one else under contract.

As for CBs, Kaleb Hayes (Oregon State/BYU) is better than any CB the Steelers have under contract besides maybe Pat Pete. He very likely will go round 6 or 7.

I think Karl Brooks is worth a 4th round pick. He reminds me of Gravedigger.

I’d be happy with Brooks at 120 as well, but he’s more of a Fat Kancey (1-gap) to me than my target of a Blue Chip Big Ugly that’s going to be overpowering double teams with size and power and anchoring our DL for the next 5-10 seasons.

Also, I don't think there is any chance either Smith or Simpson make it to 32, and like you mentioned, there are quality options at their other positions of need, that should still be available through the 3rd.
My concern at the moment, is all of the sudden, word about ILB and Smith in particular, is starting to trickle out in the steelers media sites.
