Pickett had receivers wide open and never threw to him many times this year. Today he has an uncovered Heyward in the end zone and decided to throw it out of bounds near a double teamed WR instead. His accuracy is consistently shit. Receivers routinely have passes behind them or over their head where they have to adjust and often miss the catch. His accuracy is shit, his decision making is bad, his arm strength is mediocre. What the fuck is he above average at, because he’s good at absolutely nothing.

Heyward was open and I agree that Pickett missed him.

He was beat a few times. As a rookie LT, I expect hell struggle a bit. Matt Canada is an abomination. None of that absolves Kenny Pickett from being horribly inaccurate and inefficient.

Don’t forget, Pickett endorsed Matt Canada and wanted him back. If he strongly asked for an actual NFL OC this off-season we wouldn’t be in this mess right now. Canada is partly on Pickett.

The important thing to note is that guys like Stroud and Purdy haven’t played a full season either. They clearly have shown they have “it” and their teams complete confidence. We saw the same from Ben very early on in his rookie year as well. We’ve seen absolutely nothing of the type from Pickett, and he’s already 25 years old, not 21 like Stroud. Chances he ever develops into a top half of the league starter is dwindling quickly to zero, especially if he’s out for the rest of this year. The longer they hold onto him because he’s a nice guy and studies hard and went to Pitt, the longer the rebuild will take.

Purdy plays on what is likely the best team in the NFl. They have no weaknesses on either side of the ball.

Stroud is one helluva prospect, but Holy Shit, he had PHENOMENAL protection today, his RB's ran all over the Steelers front 7 and the play calling and preparation on offense ABSOLUTELY SCHOOLED the Steelers defense.

Pickett is forced to run an offense that does....just does what it does. Each week, the same thing.

So are you going to completely ignore the fact that they couldn't figure out where to line up before that play even started? Did he even know where the receivers were going? They should have called a TO. I realize you didn't want them to pick him. Neither did I but there's no reason to continually trash the guy and other posters that actually hope he does well. Sure the guy that went 16 for 30 (which certainly isn't anything to keep drooling over especially considering the way our defense took a shit) but he was also picked 2nd. Let's hope they lose enough games to get a top 5 pick for the first time since like what, the 70's?

Everyone complaining “it is the coaches” have some point but only some. If the only thing that matters is coaching, then why worry about players, etc.

Of course coaching and talent matters. Pickett through a regular season worth of games hasn’t put talent on the scoreboard.

Has the coaching been sooo bad as to make the talent unable to determine? Even in Ben’s last year, they had moments. Mostly in the fourth. Ben found some magic.

Kenny hasn’t really shown the magic to the same level as a diminished Ben.

The only reason they shouldn’t move on is because they should just commit to a full rebuild and I hate taking a QB in the first half of a rebuild. You want to build the team, then draft the QB so that you reap the benefit of a rookie QB contract.

If the offense is better, then it will look really bad for Pickett. If the offense is the same, then that suggests it could be coaching or the same (hell using the coaching excuse are we sure Mitch sucks?). If it is worse, then that’s a point in lil Ken’s scoreboard but even then as bad as the offensive results have been they’ve Actually be lucky it hasn’t been worse.

Is this the standard for a first round draft pick at QB? Worse than Mitch Trubisky? I guess when you don’t have a leg to stand on regarding the merits of a player comparing him to another 1st round bust is the way to go.

This is going to sound crazy, but maybe Pickett and Trubisky aren't the real problem with the Pittsburgh offense.

Hopefully a lot. The Niners game was shocking to me. Stillers Nation does that to other teams’ stadiums, not in Pittsburgh. I am convinced that this will be the only thing that makes them move on.

Texans coaching staff is 49ers-rooted (Ryans/Slowik). Pittsburgh's been out-schemed in both games. Results nearly identical.

I think that’s what the Kenny supporters are trying to say. The problem starts with the coaching staff. WHOEVER you put out there at QB is at a disadvantage. It’s tough to gauge just how good or how bad Kenny is because he literally has the worst OC in all of football. I can’t hang him for that. Kenny’s had some shit throws and decision making but he’s also had some good throws and decision making. I just want to see him play under a competent OC before I kick him to the curb

And I think what most others are saying is that Kenny would have shown some flashes of greatness by now, if he had it, despite all the other issues.

This, right here.

Here’s the thing: this is the situation a QB has to overcome if they want to be great in Pittsburgh. I don’t care if Kenny would be great in San Francisco or KC, because those dudes aren’t walking through the door anytime soon. We need a guy who can make THIS staff and this OL and this surrounding cast and this mentality about offense work. I can’t see Kenny being that kind of transcendent player.
