See You Next Year

Post by jewelsongs » Sun Oct 01, 2023 10:17 pm

I have been a Steelers fan since 1962, when I attended my first game while in grade school. I have never been this mad at the end of a game. It has been 2+ hours and I have not calmed down even a little. If they don't fire Canada this week, I will not watch until he is fired. I have loved the Steelers since childhood, and they are the only team I follow. But if that prick is not fired this week, I will not watch until he is. Rooney needs to understand his golden goose can lose a lot of value in a hurry without the Steeler Nation. What the fuck are they waiting for?

Then fire him too, but Canada is the problem. Arians and Haley both had good offenses under Tomlin. Ben's buddy and Canada have both sucked. If he is not gone, then I am.

Same.

From Tomlin’s presser he did say changes are coming. He said it would be foolish to do the same thing and expect different results.

But what realistically can we expect???

I posted in the game thread (in frustration) that i wished Kenny would sit in protest until Canada was fired.

Unfortunately he didnt even make it that far.

I feel the same way…fire Canada tomorrow, put in the interim and then start looking for the next OC and I would actually hire the OC with head coach in mind and tell Tomlin his contract will not be renewed.

Tomlin needs to realize the game has passed him bye and retire at the end of his current contract. The only hope is an innovative offensive minded young coach and hope the new FO can get them some good talent. They need an awful season or two to get in position to draft a real QB.

Tomlin never had a game for it to pass him by.

Everything he "accomplished" was riding the coat tails of Cowher's coaches and players. Not really disputable, at this point (not that it ever was).

Tomlin's mark on the team really begins with the infamous "easing in" against an injury depleted, inexperienced SB team. And from there it's been a long, slow decline likely masked and picked up by one of the greatest QBs ever to play the game.

Tomlin, at his best, has never been much more than mediocre. He's the most overrated coach in all of sports history.

Said this is the game thread.

Tomlin’s calling card is supposed to be defense, but competent OC’s are running circles around a D loaded with talent.

He’s clueless on offense.

Retire.

Again, how can a guy who's been a HC for 17(?) years in this league be so offensively challenged?!?

Like I've said, Tomlin's ceiling was above average DC. He's been masquerading as a HC for his entire career.

He DOES NOT have a HOF resume, either - has only won 3 playoff games with a team he built.

I remember a great line in the movie Comancheros when John Wayne, Lee Marvin and Stuart Witman (Paul Regret) were playing poker. Lee Marvin was losing big time and started acusing others of cheating.

"Paul Regret: Mind a suggestion friend? Trouble with you is you don't enjoy the game for its own rewards: stimulation, relaxation, pleasant association, and interesting conversation."

For me it is easy to recover from a beat down then losing a close game. Those gnaw at me a long time.

The Steelers will bounce back.
Secure NHALS early and then go deep into the PLAYOFFS. :D :D :D

I would love the OC Bob Johnson from Detroit Lions as our new HC. Time to move into the new NFL.

Bounce back to what, another 9 win season? Maybe get a little better next year and have his defense give up 40 and get bounced in the first round of the playoffs. Tomlin inherited a HOF QB, Dick Lebeau and a dominant D. He hasn’t built shit. He has zero understanding of modern offense. He provides nothing of note, especially against decent opposing coaches. Texans are a good model. Get a strong young HC and a top OC. Or look at Miami, Cincy, Rams etc… who get a hotshot OC as their head coach and hire a strong veteran DC.

I don’t get pissed at losses of any kind anymore if I’m honest. Used to get mad. I’ve aged out of that.

I think the big thing about Tomlin is, he might not be hungry enough.
His teams play harder when he is fired up on the side lines.
I wish he would be more like Cowher and show more emotion during games.

Point taken, but honestly just giving the QB more freedom to audible would be a start.

And I think the calls - even if it's a limited playbook - have been really bad. You can't possibly do worse than a Magic-8 ball choosing plays.

Why would I change the name of my thread? I am properly attributing accountability. The OC sucks. If Tomlin doesn't fire him, they should fire Tomlin. That is what I said. The 1st ballot HOFer had a terrible season under Canada. He also sucked under his buddy Fichtner. The OC makes a big difference in how the offense plays. Canada isn't a scapegoat, he is the biggest problem. People wonder if someone else could do any different. My dog would have them be under center on 4th and 2 feet, not in shotgun. Even now, you can't let the Tomlin bias see that Canada sucks.

Needs:
- RB coach
- OC
- DC
- Secondary Coach

In that order. Promoting Merrill Hoge can fix the first two, TODAY. Then re-access. But start there.
