Yes, they gave him a pass because Ben was a statue, then another pass because they changed QBs to a rookie. He needs to go. I don't know if they kept him because Rooney was too cheap to pay him. In that order. Promoting Merrill Hoge can fix the first two, TODAY. Then re-access. But start there.
I don't see him listed as a coach

Never thought the day would come when I’d actually miss Bill Cowher. Yet here I am. Once Cowher won that ring he mailed it in the following season and then retired. I bet he could have won a couple more Lombardis had he stayed a few more years. Hell Tomlin won a SB with Cowher’s team. My main gripe with BC was how he didn’t take the QB position all that seriously. The Slash years were enticing but just left ya feeling empty. I did like how he let the coordinators do their job though and his record of 101-1-1 when leading by 10+ points is insane even if it involved a lot of turtling. It’s a far better record to hold than NHALS. Fuck you Tomlin for making me miss Cowher!
And not even a smidgoen of accountability for the guy that hired him?jewelsongs wrote: ↑Mon Oct 02, 2023 1:28 amYes, they gave him a pass because Ben was a statue, then another pass because they changed QBs to a rookie. Although I did notice you blame Rooney for Canada. No need to hide it - everyone knows you're one of like 2 or 3 people that won't blame Tomlin for anything and thinks he's a god.

I don't think he is a god. I also don't think he is a bad coach. According to most on this site, everything good that happened since Tomlin was hired is because he had Ben. Everything bad (no playoff wins recently, etc) is due to Tomlin. The fact that we missed on draft picks is all Tomlin's fault. When we hit, Colbert and Khan did great. Most people here criticize Tomlin for the way he holds press conferences. Most coaches in the league give the same bullshit answers as Tomlin. Listen to Belecheat, McVay or many others. If the league didn't force them to do it, none of them would. That has nothing to do with how good a coach they are. Andy Reed is the new best coach. He wasn't good until he got a QB that is from another planet. Belecheat had the GOAT at QB. If Tomlin had Brady or Mahomes at QB, we would have a lot more Super Bowl wins.Kodiak. wrote: ↑Mon Oct 02, 2023 2:04 amAnd not even a smidgoen of accountability for the guy that hired him?jewelsongs wrote: ↑Mon Oct 02, 2023 1:28 amYes, they gave him a pass because Ben was a statue, then another pass because they changed QBs to a rookie. I don't think Tomlin is Chuck Noll. But I think it is ridiculous to think he is a bad coach. I am blaming Tomlin right now for not firing Canada. I blamed him in earlier threads for keeping Canada. I blamed him for keeping Butler as DC for too long. I blamed him for Fitchner. As I said earlier in this thread, I don't care if they fire him. But our biggest problem is Canada. When he gets fired, no one will hire him. If Tomlin gets fired, he will have as many jobs as he wants as soon as he wants them. If you don't think those two statements are true, we can agree to disagree.

I agree! Can't blow it all up at this point in the season anyway. Can't give up on the Najee &/or Pickett experiment either. Got to see them with a different offensive scheme first. Problem is, any OC that may be a good fit is employed right now.
But it needs done. Get rid of Faulkner & Canada, find a good interim option. Send that message to everybody else ( players & other coaches) Then see how things go.
Can't do panic whole scale changes at this point. Make the point, shit won't be tolerated. Tweak the offensive scheme and hope for a win next week into first place. Then see where it goes. But rule out offensive scheme 1st, for now, at the very least. Continuing on this way makes NO sense. Initiate change, but do it in phases.

I have loved the Steelers since childhood, and they are the only team I follow. But if that prick is not fired this week, I will not watch until he is. Rooney needs to understand his golden goose can lose a lot of value in a hurry without the Steeler Nation. What the fuck are they waiting for?

My issue with Tomlin has zero to do with his pressers, his ability to get his team ready to play, etc.
MY issue with him is that he's an absolute GAMEDAY DUMBFUCK.....and his dumbfuckery now extends to keeping this incompetent shithead as OC.
Here's where I am for this season. Steelers will either....
*Suck and get blown the fuck out, ala SF & Houston
*Suck and somehow win close games, ala Cleveland and Vegas
I tend to judge the year on winning the close ones and so far, Steelers are 2-0 in that vein. I wouldn't be surprised at all if they suck ass for much of the game v. Ravens, force some turnovers, make us SUFFER the fuck throughout, make us happy in the end by pulling a win out their asses, be 3-2 and leading the Norf going into the bye.
Gonna be that kind of year.

I don’t agree with STD much, but he nailed who the real problem is…and it is Art Rooney 2, not Mike Tomlin.Steelperch wrote: ↑Sun Oct 01, 2023 10:39 pmTomlin needs to realize the game has passed him bye and retire at the end of his current contract. The only hope is an innovative offensive minded young coach and hope the new FO can get them some good talent. They need an awful season or two to get in position to draft a real QB.
Art doesn’t know anything about football, and the dictates that we have smashmouth D and a solid run game (laughable as we have neither) appear to come from him. He’s the one overpaying the defense, after all.
I don’t trust Art Rooney 2 to bring in an innovative offensive mind.
I expect him to go find a defensive coach again if Tomlin ever leaves.

If they lay another egg next week, I bet they give OC duties to Sullivan bc it's the bye week
What if Trubisky has a decent game and the offense actually scores 20+? Oh boy, buckle up!
But I bet Tomlin is spending more time figuring out how to push aside his OC after just 5 games when he was heavily criticized for bringing him back. How does he turn the stink of that decision into something positive - what a decisive leader to make that switch so quickly! You know, as opposed to coming across desperate and weak.

Then fire him too, but Canada is the problem. Arians and Haley both had good offenses under Tomlin. Ben's buddy and Canada have both sucked. If he is not gone, then I am.
There is no greater job/responsibility of the HC than hiring coaches. Tomlin is the problem. Even now, you can't properly attribute accoutability. Change the name of your thread - Canada is nothing more than a scapegoat.
I do not recall this board, or the majority of online Steelers' fans in general, ever approving of the offensive coordinator. After the '11 loss to Denver in the playoffs, Arians was sacrificed (to satiate the fanbase). Haley replaced him and likely prolonged Roethlisberger's career with his philosophy of quickly getting rid of the ball, but he wasn't universally liked, and there was some prime AB in those years. Obviously Randy and Canada weren't approved of. Even if the OC is replaced, there's no evidence that the new guy is going to be satisfactory. If done in-season, likely more of the same.
I didn't mind going for it on 4th and 2 feet, and (Hot Take) didn't mind the formation, either. Reason being, telegraphing a run on 4th and short could get this offense stuffed. And then the complaints are about how obvious a run was in that situation. Pittsburgh needed at least 10 points, and wasn't exactly threating to move the ball through the red zone and into the endzone. Hard to know what the exact play call was, but if it was to look deep for a score or tuck it and run, that's a solid idea in my humble opinion. Get Kenny in space. AND, Pickett was looking to scramble to his left - after Alex Kozora detailed last week he always breaks the pocket to his right. Personally, didn't mind taking a shot deep there.
The above said, if you are still fired up, here's some kindling that no one else has brought up. Pittsburgh drafted a mauler at LT in the first round and he was in the game. Why not try running it behind him to let him earn some mettle?

Thanks, I am still fired up, and if Canada is not fired by tomorrow, I am not watching Sunday. If he is not fired at the bye, I am done for the season, and I hope they clean house. I don't believe they will fire Tomlin, because if they don't fire Canada by the bye week, it must be because Rooney is too cheap to pay him. There will be no way he fires Tomlin and then pays him $10M. But if Tomlin does not fire Canada, then I hope they move on from Tomlin.Steel Bingo wrote: ↑Tue Oct 03, 2023 1:27 amQuality rant in this thread jewelsongs.
