Fantasy vs. Reaiity - "Hell yeah there will be Changes"
There is one thing this entire board is unified on. Matt Canada must be fired, preferably into the sun.
That will not happen,at least not this week - though another mediocre to poor offensive showing in front of a bye might force his hand. While he has assured us there will be changes, Tomlin being Tomlin, we will likely only make minor adjustments, probably first at the player reps level.
So with a huge early season AFCN slobberknocker coming to.the 'Burgh, for command of the.mediocre North at stake, what do we think will actually happen here? JPJr gets more playing time? More Mark.Robinson? Some scheme tweaks ?

The big change will be the triumphant return of Gunner to kickoff return duties.

I’m not sure that is a 100% unified opinion. I mean if you want this team to go tits up tanking I can’t think of a better OC for the job.

You're lying if you're not morbidly fascinated by the prospect of Tomlin taking over the offense and calling plays.

Tomlin changing things will be in same category as "mojo," just says bullshit to stop the questions. I don't think he's going to do anything substantial. Obv, there will be a different guy under center this week....a change informed by injury.
Otherwide, what dafuq is Tomlin gonna do?
And if he fires Canada, who's then OC?

Having no OC offers more than Matt Canada does. Running the offense by Twitter polls would be an upgrade.swissvale72 wrote: ↑Mon Oct 02, 2023 2:58 pmTomlin changing things will be in same category as "mojo," just says bullshit to stop the questions. Coach already used this cliche, and nothing changed.
So we can expect...nothing to change. Maybe some new phrases will come out of his mouth.

Hire Jim Caldwell from the Carolina Staff as OC. Tomlin knows him and Caldwell has been an OC multiple times. Have Sullivan call the plays next game, and Caldwell after the bye. Caldwell is a big improvement over Canada, but so would hiring my dog.swissvale72 wrote: ↑Mon Oct 02, 2023 2:58 pmTomlin changing things will be in same category as "mojo," just says bullshit to stop the questions. "We’ve been friends now for 15 years and I appreciate him," Tomlin said. "It’s always been a relationship that’s valued by me."
This team needs a young, ambitious OC with fresh, MODERN ideas.
But they also need a young, ambitious HC with fresh, MODERN ideas.

The first one wont happen until the second one happens I'm afraid. I can't see a young ambitious modern coordinator appearing at our door. Those guys are groomed by coaching tree's so they understand the value of being in a good system.
One look at Tomlins "coaching tree" would be enough to scare away anybody with ambition, who thinks they can start a career path in the NFL.
I think sometimes people don't really hear what Canada is saying:
"This offense isn't really built to come from behind". No one is that stupid - what Canada is telling us, and not for the first time, is that he knows the offense is bad. He's telling us the offense Tomlin wants is absolutely doomed to failure.

Jibba Jabber’s offense hasn’t scored more than 7 1st quarter points in 84 consecutive games. An NFL record by far. A historic amount of “easin in”. We are lucky to have him.

All morning I have been reading from Steelers writers (Kaboly, Wexell, others) that we can't change OCs in the middle of the year. Hiring Caldwell gives us someone known to Tomlin, and more importantly, not Canada. He has proven he can call plays (he will have to call Canada's plays). Tomlin's contract runs out next year (2024). If Caldwell corrects the offense, let him stay through 2024. If not, hire the young offensive minded coach with the understanding he will take Tomlin's place.Jobu wrote: ↑Mon Oct 02, 2023 4:28 pmCaldwell would be just another Tomlin yes man, IMO.jewelsongs wrote: ↑Mon Oct 02, 2023 3:57 pmHire Jim Caldwell from the Carolina Staff as OC. Doing nothing does not make sense. When the house is on fire, you don't wait to see if it fixes itself.
I can not see any major changes this week.
Maybe the OC gets fired or demoted.
But. The game plan, play calling, scheme, philosophy, rhythm, pace, tone, etc. will be the same, because,
In the great mind of Mike Tomlin........this is Ravens week.
Battle of the trenches.
Attrition football.
Field position battle.
Ram Najee and Warren into a pile 30 times.
Keep it close, win it with a FG in the end.

There is one thing and one thing only that fixes this team…fire the head coach. But we all know that isn’t going to happen.jewelsongs wrote: ↑Mon Oct 02, 2023 4:46 pmAll morning I have been reading from Steelers writers (Kaboly, Wexell, others) that we can't change OCs in the middle of the year. I just get a chuckle out of all the “Fire Canada” screams from the fanboys and media, as if they don’t understand that Canada is designing and calling an offense with the full endorsement of the head coach and owner. This is what they want! The fourth down play that got KP injure yesterday was after a timeout. Does anyone really think that Tomlin didn’t put his stamp of approval on that one? Hell, he’s probably the guy that called it!
Jim Caldwell is another Tomlin buddy. If he would come here, he’s going to give Tomlin more of the same. Any coach brought here to work under Tomlin will be more of the same. Tomlin IS the problem!

This is Canada's manner of attempting to disassociate himself from this shit show
Now, I still think Canada's play calling sucks ass, but he's handcuffed to a degree, by Tomlin's stupidity.
We do what we do. Don't deviate from your tendencies. Don't scheme for the other team's weaknesses.
We do what we do.
Play for 3rd down. Control the ball. Get to the 4th quarter, and try to win it there.

Bringing in anyone with the legacy of losing at the Lions will cement further the loser culture Coach Mike has developed.
Losers strut around like he does with his head up his ass. Ooooh, he swore during a PC, he must really mean it now.
Get me Jim Caldwell on the line, if you will, at this juncture.
