The key words there are “if win out”.

On the flip side: if they lose to the Bengals on Saturday, we can put this season to bed, officially.

When was the last time we were eliminated with two games to go?

Has to be 2003, right?

They likely won't be eliminated completely but would need a whole bunch of help.

If PIT loses to CIN and JAX wins, either a CIN or JAX win in week 17 officially eliminates them. If Jax loses, then it gets more complicated. A combo of Bills, Jax, Cin, Cleveland wins could knock them out but they'll be technically alive probably until week 18.

They are coming to Seattle next weekend and I haven’t given an iota of a thought about going. I can barely keep them on my television screen, let alone the effort and money to seeing them in person.

I haven’t disliked a Steelers team to this level in my lifetime.

Oh man. That was an all timer as far as threads go. That Steelers.com message board was a trip. All sorts of degenerates on there lolol. I remember when we won SB 40 the message board site crashed for like 3 weeks. Pimply Dan was the ultimate good luck charm that year. Dude started that thread when they were 7-5 and on the outside looking in. That thread went "back then viral" and they end up winning eight in a row to win it all.

This team had what should have been an easy path to the playoffs. As usual they stubbed their toe and couldn’t handle their own business.

Last thing I want is to sit there hoping some 17 random things fall into place over the final weekend so that we can squeeze into the playoffs.

Win out and get in on your own or go the fuck away.
Jibba Jabber’s offense hasn’t scored more than 7 1st quarter points in 84 consecutive games. An NFL record by far. A historic amount of “easin in”. We are lucky to have him.

Just remember years from now when we are stuck in our current quagmire that the Steelers could have picked up maybe one of these guys to help with our playoff push. Instead we have the worst collective QBs maybe ever in the history of the league.

Agree 100%.

I’m too young LOL to remember the pre-Emperor Chas teams although those must have been dark days.

I will say that 1985-1988 comes close to the past decade as the Super 70s teams slowly dissolved and weren’t replaced with even close talent. At least a lot of the team structure was still in place from those days that gave you hope it could turn around.

I also almost walked away in 1998-2000 (I was living behind enemy lines outside of Philly and couldn’t even get the Stillers Radio Network without driving to Lancaster). At least they were only a couple years removed from the six-year playoff run so it made sense to see if Cowher could turn it around.

The 85-88 Steelers were bad but it’s not like they added on to being bad by being unlikeable characters who didn’t try hard.

Same with 1998-2000.

When the games count the most, Tomlin shows why he's never been a good coach. When can you remember them beating anyone and thinking damn, that was a great game plan? It's usually whew, thank God that's over.
Howard Griffith had to resort to chop-blocking him during the 1997 AFC Championship Game. An incredulous Kirkland asked Griffith, “Why do you have to use cheap tactics like chop-blocking?” Griffith replied “Why do you have to be a 300-pound linebacker?”

The last one that truly sticks out in my mind as a game that was won with an actual great game plan was our 2011 victory over the Patriots.

When LeBeau finally had enough DB talent to play full man with a safety over top, and Arians devised a dink and dunk game plan that shredded the Patriots.

And we still had to hang on for the win.

And the defense went to complete shit after LeBeau left. Now the only way the defense plays well is when they get multiple big plays by their stars. Other than that, they are continually carved up. Who runs the defense now?

Once Lancaster (and pretty much all of central PA up to Harrisburg) was designated a Ravens TV market, The Stillers Radio Network was pretty much all we had, and honestly, they made it better. Wow. Two Cope or Cope-adjacent posts in a row. Really getting whistfully nostalgic over here.

Haha yeah when we moved to Harrisburg in 2001, we tried to match up the radio and TV broadcasts. I feel like radio was always ahead so you couldn’t sync it even with a DVR but we did it anyway to avoid the terrible national announcers. Always appreciated the homerism but also that the Stillers crew really seemed to know the team and have real insights. Fleming and Cope, Mike Lange and Bob Prince/Lanny Frattere are the voices I hear in my head when I think about the Stillers, Guins and Buccos.

As an old timer Pittsburgh sports fan, I feel blessed to have had the pleasure of following some iconic sports announcers through the years.
Cope was special, made the games fun to listen too. And his Cope’s Cabana post game show was great!
Mike Lange, for my money, was one of the most colorful sports announcers ever. I really believe that. He was the main reason I became a hockey/Pens fan.
I have special memories of pleasant summer evenings, sitting on the front porch with my dad, an ice cold Stroh’s in his hand, fireflies glowing in the trees, the Gunner and Nellie King on the radio.
Good times!
