What has he actually done though. A SB is doing more with less. NHALS is meaningless. Getting flushed out of participation playoffs is just axs meaningless.

And what role does he have in creating the situations he finds himself in.

It just depends on how you view it. One way is to say a team must win the Super Bowl or it’s a failure. If you want to take that extreme position consistently, I’ll tip my hat to you but do not think that’s realistic every year.

I like to use the playoffs as a barometer because it means the team at least had a chance (even if small) to win a championship. But, again, that is colored by expectations. If you think a team is really Super Bowl caliber, then making the playoffs is not going to be enough. But if you are the Steelers from this year, then I believe making the playoffs is overachieving. You can disagree if you want but to each their own.

Is it overachieving, or is it the function of the NFL watering down the playoffs by adding a 7th seed? The 2018 team was much better than the 2023 team, but the 2018 team missed the playoffs in 2018 because there was no 7th seed. Tomlin's coaching performance in 2018 was a fireable offense, even if you somehow have convinced yourself that he did a good job this year (notwithstanding the back-to-back losses to 2-10 teams).

Not true. With competent coaching, we had a SB contender as recently as 2018.

The Steelers were a top-5 team at worst from 2014-2018. Coaching is the reason they didn't do much of anything.
