Should still be a few moves in FA. We need to sign a SS, C, WR, CB before the draft.
🏈🦍🏈🦍🏈🦍🏈

We have guys who can play center in a pinch

Not sure they address C before the draft now

We need another JPJ or Frazier. SVP worst case.

who are these guys? These are the kind of moves we never saw with Colbert & Tomlin sans the Minkah trade, and that was in season.

I wouldn't be surprised if they are looking at a run at Simmons, or one of the top WRs like Ridley, Boyd, or Brown, and bringing Edmunds back as a low $$$ vet in case they don't get a starting safety in the draft.

BTW if it's not clear, I'm enjoying the FO moves in the last three days as much as I was smiling during last year's draft

Smith does like TE’s.

JuJu is slow and built like a TE.

Just sayin.

Happy DJ is gone.

The WR they sign will be a Allen Robinson type.

They're taking a WR early in this draft, barring some kind of miracle they get a guy like Ridley.

This is a deep WR draft. I expect a they use a second rounder on a WR. 1st rounder on a tackle like Mims. 3rd rounder on a center.

CB is where it gets interesting.

Frankly, I could see them waiting a year on a tackle and simply moving Dan Moore over to the right side for a year.

That would allow the Steelers to take a CB or WR at 20. They'll either take a CB or WR in the second (whatever they didn't take in the first) and a center in the third round.

Moore might actually play well on the right side. Dude was never meant to be a LT. Moore makes under 4 million and for a RT, that definitely isn't awful.

So, now it's looking like the deal is this......

In 2024, Jackson will earn a base salary of $4,722,500, a roster bonus of $4,000,000 and a workout bonus of $200,000, while carrying a cap hit of $10,522,500.

So, we got rid of D. Johnson's current cap hit of $15.85M and have now have Jackson's current cap hit of $10.5M. It appears we are also saving ~$5.3M in '24 cap with this move. That should put us around ~$23.75M as best I can figure.

Not sure if Jackson's three void years of dead cap ($5M-ish maybe) came with him or not? It doesn't look like it, but I'm really not sure.

You're leaving out the dead cap hit.

Diontae had a cap hit of $15.85M, but we don't lose all of that by trading him. We keep a dead cap hit of $5.8M.

So trading DJ we only saved $10M on the cap, not $15.8M.

Adding Jackson and his current cap hit of $10.5M adds around $500K to our cap overall after accounting for the net $10M cap savings trading DJ.

So basically a wash.

Softest Steelers WR of my lifetime. The drops, the fumbles, the backwards running… and when he added in being a malcontent to being soft, fuck him and good riddance!

I’m starting to love Omar Khan
Agreed all around
Yeah I would have been fine with him getting cut. The fact that they got anything worth a damn for him is great.
Howard Griffith had to resort to chop-blocking him during the 1997 AFC Championship Game. An incredulous Kirkland asked Griffith, “Why do you have to use cheap tactics like chop-blocking?” Griffith replied “Why do you have to be a 300-pound linebacker?”

Wow isn’t Donte Jackson really good?

You mean maybe DJ didn't suck like this board is always droning on about? All the excuses with the offense made for Kenny PIckens, and none of those applied to the WRs, ESPECIALLY the guys throwing them the ball most of the year?

I agree DJ was probably a malcontent that needed to go. And it's probably easier to get a quality WR early in the draft where DB is a crapshoot even late in R1.

Doesn't Arthur Smith prefer 2 TE sets, anyway? I think they'll take a WR in the first or second now, and maybe a decent vet for depth. Actually, JuJu wouldn't be a horrible fit if he comes cheap, either in the slot or until a rookie gets up to speed.

PIT is going to run the ball and play defense and hope Wilson can compensate for offensive incompetence.
i mean, diontae had like 5 times as many receiving yards in the first five games this year as Calvin Austin had in 4 games with Mason Rudolph. And…diontae was out with injury for those five games. Like him or not, diontae is light years better than the other guys in that room.

You are correct, sir. I knew something seemed screwy when I looked at Spotrac the second time -- I forgot to go to the bottom of the page and look at Johnson's dead cap. Thanks.

Yeah, it's worrisome, but a) we've got a long way to go until August, so let's see how it shakes out and b) this probably has just as much to do with what takes place off the field than on it.

I heard last year they were trying to move DJ as part of a deal for a CB but it didn't work out. This year it happened.

Question. How the hell is James POS Pierre still on the roster? ST’s?

I agree. While I don’t think he deserved another contract here, our offense is anemic enough as it is. At the same time though, really don’t care as all the criticism here of him is warranted.

I would have been inclined to let him play out his contract heading into FA but doesn’t really matter.

Hopefully the corner is good.

I couldn’t stomach watching Kenny Pickett, Dionte Johnson, or Matt Canada’s play calling last year. All of those guys were brutal. All 3 have been replaced and that makes this a great off-season. Dionte was at least talented, but he was soft and a cancer. Fuck that guy all the way to Carolina and I hope Bryce Young continues to suck.

Can we get a high quality route runner that doesn't run backwards?I It would be nice.
