Yeah and I guess two stud WR would help a Rookie QB or hell maybe even Justin Fields?!?!???
Dolphins are paying two WR's and a QB, OFFENSE OFFENSE OFFENSE
The Steelers could dump all the cap increases for the next 5 years into offensive contracts and maybe get the O/D $ balance to 50/50 cap-wise. We're spending next to nothing on our offense right now. Hell, the two highest paid players are guards FFS.

All of these "reporters" throwing crap out there. I expect to wake up tomorrow with Aiyuk traded to Tampa Bay

It's more important to feed the media beast every day than to print the truth.
They probably asked the NFL to have the Steelers slow roll this for maximum ad revenue and bullshit spewing 24/7.
Remember how Vince McMahon would draw out promo for Wrestlemania and all that? Same thing.

At some point we're just going to have to start making a distinction between the 5 percent of reporters who report and call the other 95 percent retweeters.

I will say, things are certainly getting interesting.
As for Aiyuk the player, I've watched him a bunch and he's an elite WR -- easily an NFL top 10. On most other teams he'd be close to leading the league in WR stats, as he's had to share the ball with CMC, Deebo, Kittle, JJ, and a few more talented players in SF. Outside of demanding this trade he's been a model citizen also. He's a hard worker, very good blocker, and great locker room guy. What more could you ask for if you needed to have confidence in the guy you're trading for.
$29M seems like a lot (especially for the Steelers), but they are going to have SO much cap money to spend the next few years it won't matter, and that price point will seem like a good deal by then.
I'm hoping they weaken the blow by sending a guy like Daniels to lessen the draft ransom they will pay. I'd be okay with Daniels and a 2nd (maybe 3rd). It would save us $8.25M in cap this year. I could get behind that.

One day the Steelers are out of contention for him and then two days later…they saying he’s coming to Pit. Media lol
Reports say he wants to play for Steelers. Why? Tomlin? Tradition? QB room? Or is it cause he knows he’ll be the unequivocal #1? I wonder how Pickens will feel about that…the young man already seems a bit testy.

I'm only following this saga to see if the 49ers will get more or less than the 2nd rounder I got Aiyuk for in April.

Even more depressingly, neither of the guards have exactly been game-changers.

I'm HUGE Pickens fan so my glasses are obviously colored a different way.chippedhamsandwich wrote: ↑Wed Aug 07, 2024 8:56 pmThis trade going through is huge for another reason called, "GEORGE PICKENS INSURANCE"
Dude is an absolute freak WR, doing what he can with Kenny Pickett, Trubinsky, and Mason throwing to him.
The Steelers have to have serious doubts about his head though. He could go completely off the rails at any minute and he doesn't even realize that this could impact his ability to get a contract like what Aiyuk is gunning for right this minute.
Aiyuk is a fucking PRO and I am sure a #1 receiver that you would like to build an offense around.
They would have to feel better with Aiyuk here knowing that they could grab something for Pickens down the road if they cannot/won't resign him in the future, and then reload in a draft.
I view Pickens as no different than most WR's. They have a big ego when they aren't involved. When they inserted MR and started opening things up last year, his effort and attitude changed dramatically.
So I don't think Pickens being threatened by BA will impact him as much as people think. If he gets upset when BA is here, I think it will solely be to him not having enough balls thrown his way vs BA's presence alone. Whoever the WR2 is won't get a ton of work and that's not going to sit well with these upper tier WR's.
They already lost that but it is still in their best interest to keep him.bradshaw2ben wrote: ↑Thu Aug 08, 2024 2:16 amI'm only following this saga to see if the 49ers will get more or less than the 2nd rounder I got Aiyuk for in April.

Taking TOO Long
Thinking that's not a good thing
49ers and the NFL as a whole need to toughen up.
Can't turn into the garbage NBA and let the inmates run the asylum.
"Hey Brandon, you can honor your contract or go take a seat on that thing over there called a bench for the rest of the year."
BUT
If by some small miracle I see a Florio headline announcing the Steelers have acquired Aiyuk sometime today I'm not going to worry about Pickens.
I think he'll be fine.
Should only help him.
Unless Calvin Austin somehow lives up to his camp hype, there's no one opposite to take away constant double teaming.
THAT will frustrate Georgie more than not seeing enough balls.

Not, balls, balls.

Adding James Daniels into the trade mix would make sense for Pittsburgh. Move Seumalo to RG, where he played his last year in Philadelphia, and then let Mason McCormick and Troy Fautanu play their natural positions and grow together on the left side of the line. Continue to work Broderick Jones at RT, where he has seen the majority of his reps during his professional career.
It will be a happy Friday for all tomorrow...

Much like Drama, I'm not sure this deal gets done anymore.
Wexell reporting the Niners are asking for two first rounders? Completely conflicts with all the reports from yesterday.
He ends up staying in SF this year.
The Steelers will comb the waiver wire at the end of preseason for a pass catcher.
9-8 again.

Two firsts is crazy talk. Probably on the part of Wex. Pretty sure nobody's got a clue what's going on, and it'll resolve at some point soon.

One first plus a 30M contract is crazy. I can live with a 2nd and 4th, but I wouldn't want to give away more than that. Again, we have no QB next year and we almost definitely have to draft one in the 1st (there are a lot of potential ones coming out). We CANNOT give away a first and frankly giving away a 2nd will make moving up tough.
I agree. Though, I'll add that we may not have a 4th next year. As of now, I believe we have 1,2,3,4,5,5,6,7,7,7.franco32 wrote: ↑Thu Aug 08, 2024 4:18 pmOne first plus a 30M contract is crazy. If Fields plays over 51% of snaps in 2024, we'll be forced to send our 4th-round pick to CHI. If he plays less than that, the pick will revert to a 6th-rounder. Thus, we will only have one of those two picks.
We gained an extra 5th-round pick from the LAR in exchange for OG Kevin Dotson. As per the terms of the Kenny Pickett trade, we'll also gain two of the Eagles’ most favorable 7th-round picks.

I assume by moving up you're implying that the Steelers are looking to move up for their next qb?franco32 wrote: ↑Thu Aug 08, 2024 4:18 pmOne first plus a 30M contract is crazy. I'm guessing I'm in the minority here but I don't think that's what Khan is planning on.
Broken record I am, but the very fact the Steelers are even exploring a trade for Aiyuk is a refreshing change from NHALS.
It's a bold, WIN NOW, trade.
I THINK Khan and the Steelers are going to sign whichever of Russell and Justin either performs best AND/OR is willing to except a hopefully team friendly contract extension.
No franchise qb heading our way next year.
I too want the next great Steelers qb
BUT
I think we're looking at a minimum of two seasons of Russ or Justin
Nick Markakis on Astros: "Every guy over there needs a beating."
Dan Moore might be, well, scrappy and close to competent as a LT, but with the Niners looking at an old, missing camp snaps Trent Williams (is he in the best of shape to start the season? Does that compound age/injury concerns?), he's not exactly chopped liver. Could end up being a valuable depth piece for them.
Rumors that they "need" a WR back as compensation seem a little binary when looking at their big picture.

After looking at both team's rosters, if a player is part of the deal, the only ones that I can see us sending them would be J. Daniels, D. Moore or D. Leal -- in that order. Daniels has the biggest benefit for us, as we have a surplus of IOL and he would save us $8.25M on the cap this year (which would help offset the cost of Aiyuk) -- if we didn't pick up any of his current salary as part of the trade, that is.Ice wrote: ↑Thu Aug 08, 2024 4:59 pmDan Moore might be, well, scrappy and close to competent as a LT, but with the Niners looking at an old, missing camp snaps Trent Williams (is he in the best of shape to start the season?
