Nostrodomus-like skills are evident. One month ago:
Not sure it's sustainable but if they can keep winning series' at the same pace like they've been at over the past month, would project to 92 wins ... 8-)

We'll see what they've got in the tank ...

What a sad almost half-century of this franchise. It's a damn shame.

As Dan or somebody here said, has there ever been a worse time to be an overall Pittsburgh sports fan?
As things stand, the Pirates will win the World Series before the Steelers win another Super Bowl.

Let that sink in.

I can't believe how this team fell apart.

I know, me either. And just after we took 3 of 4 from the Reds. I thought maybe we'd go down fighting and try to get to .500 at least, but that looks bleak now. 3 terrible losses, with the last one possibly the worst.

The bullpen has really let us down this season. Things we thought we could count on just didn't materialize, for the most part.

Shelton is one of the major issues. Some of the decisions he makes are very bad. 5 years is long enough to turn things around, go out and get someone who knows how to manage. Unfortunately, the owner doesn't care so the suffering will continue.

Hard to fault Shelton when his job from the jump was to manage a team during a teardown and rebuild.

BUT...

Can't say I've seen anything from the guy to make me think he's the guy to manage a team as it enters the contention window, either.

One thing this team desperately needs - besides the obvious need for REAL bats acquired by trade or in FA - is new hitting coaches. At every level. And it's not like those guys make millions per year, either.

Who is going to want and come to Pittsburgh and play for the Pirates after what they did to Rowdy Tellez.

Saw that on McAfee today

Jeff Passan drilled Nutting not just for doing Rowdy dirty but for signing a bum like that in the first place

Agreed, it's a huge problem, even when they have some dollars to spend on FA, most wouldn't want to bother coming here for these reasons.

What a tremendous disappointment this season became after July. We hung in there for that last WC for 4 months, but couldn't close the deal. Maybe next year, we'll see. Need to see some progression from guys like Davis and Suwinski, though. I like Yorke and Cook, but they are essentially like what we already have--utility guys who swing a fair bat at times, but don't rely on them full time.

I can't believe they are sticking with Shelton. The Reds played much better this year then last and fired their coach. After this year they have a 4 year window, why waste 1 more year on Shelton.

I just don't really see anything from Shelton that makes me think he has what it takes to take this team to another level. He seems like a nice enough guy, but he doesn't ever seem like he's in charge of the room. This team needs a dose of discipline to go along with talent, and he doesn't seem like the man to make that happen. I think it's still open as to whether they will let him go, but it sure seems like no major changes are in store and that's really bad, in my view.

Well they fired Andy Haines and the bullpen coach. Let's see if it makes any difference going into 2025. Can't get worse than what they've been hitting the past few seasons, with this last one one of the worst.

I hate how no one can bunt anymore. The shift Cruz gets where 3rd baseman plays SS, an SS is standing an inch from 2nd base is insane. I would make every player bunt thousands of balls until they get it right. I hope they get this guy's attacking more. Shelton ass is burning now, he truthfully should of been let go.

Will Skenes be the first billion dollar athlete after what we just saw in the Soto Mets deal?
