This is regarding Roman Wilson
It doesn't sound even remotely positive.
Shitty draft pick is shitty
I simply don't buy it.
Wilson dominated on the best college football team just one year ago.
Dude is 5'11", 185 and ran a 4.39 at the combine. Was JJ McCarthy's favorite target at UM and made countless big catches for Michigan against basically everybody they played.
Wilson was known to have some of the best hands in the draft and was about as good at getting open as any WR in the draft.....and Mike Tomlin can't find a way to help make this kid successful?
Yeah...not buying it at all.
2023: Second-team All-Big Ten Conference. Team's Co-Offensive Skill Player of the Year. Led the team with 48 receptions, 789 receiving yards (16.4 per). Tied for ninth in the FBS with 12 receiving TDs. Started all 15 games for the national champions (1-10-10.0 rushing).
I bet must guys drafted 84th overall fail at the NFL level. Almost all guys drafted were one of the best players on their college team. Everything you said is baked into a guy not being great at the NFL level.
We'll see.
I think Tomlin doesn't trust a rookie who hasn't played all year, due to first an ankle injury and later a hammy, this late in a season that looks to be headed for (hopefully) a deep playoff run.
Tomlin values veterans and experience. I get that and understand it. I don't believe for a second that Roman Wilson will be released or anything in camp next season or he's already been deemed a bust. I 100% know that's horseshit.
In fact, I think both Van Jefferson and Mike Williams are done in Pittsburgh after this season and we will draft a receiver very high next April. That receiver will, at first, be George Pickens' running mate but could also be Pickens' replacement if the Steelers either 1) can't make a long term deal or 2) are afraid to make a long term deal because Pickens is nuts.
I think the receiver room in 2025 will look like Pickens, Rookie #1 or #2 pick, Calvin Austin and Roman Wilson. Last dude will be a special teamer or veteran like Skowronek.
Wilson will get a lot of work out of the slot next year but right now, Mike Tomlin is too scared to trust a rookie when other guys are making plays.
Anybody believing Roman Wilson has already been deemed a bust is out of their mind.
