But he's paid like what he is. An above average TE on his second contract.
The problem Though is that the idiot Steelers will get Scrub McStuffins type production out of him.

This team has zero clue how to utilize their resources.

Always a self created victim of circumstance.
I don't know if that's really the problem. Very few Steelers leave and perform better elsewhere. Out of the past 10 years, I can think of Dotson and maybe Spillane who have gone on to have better careers after they left the Steelers.

The problem seems to be that the Tomlin Steelers have become very bad at identifying and drafting talented players, very bad at developing talented players they draft (to the point of ruining those players' careers), or possibly both.

I think Freirermuth essentially is a "Scrub McStuffins" and would be elsewhere too. The Steelers would have been much better off had they done what the Chiefs did in that draft- take Creed Humphrey in the 2nd and Noah Grey later. Instead, they reached for a limited guy like Muth in the 2nd and took a total bust in Kendrick Green (now on the Bills' practice squad) in the 3rd. Drafting has been generally terrible over the past 10 years, and I think Tomlin bears major responsibility for that.

Mr Politician Coach T, a lazy slob running a rudderless ship into the rocks.

Could you imagine him on a Great Lakes freighter? He would be thrown overboard.

He would be first off the Titanic shoving women and children into the cold sea to perish.

Muth is an average / below average TE1 being paid like a top 10 TE. Only Penn State fans think Muth is above average. There are at least 30 TEs in the league who are as good as or better than Muth. He's much closer to being Jesse James v2 or Vance McDonald v2 than he is Heath Miller v2. Muth just isn't all that talented. He's not some stud being stifled by a bad coaching staff. He just is what he is, and I doubt he'd do much better on a different team.
1. Heath was always overrated and was never - NEVER - the blocker the team made him out to be. I liked the guy, but he was not a dominant TE.
2. Muth has played with crap at QB in a highly conservative and bland offense. When he had Ben, he made plays as a rookie and second year player.

I'm not going to argue too much with people who label him average, but much of the hate directed at him is a result of how he was drafted or rather who he was drafted over, and the fact that he was awarded that second contract.

Claypool had a great rookie year, but it didn't mean he was a great player. Ben made him, and Claypool flopped elsewhere. I don't put too much stock in Muth's rookie year for the same reason, and I don't see it as some guarantee that Muth would be a league top-10 TE on some other team in some other system.

Muth's overall body of work is ok at best and not particularly impressive. I think complaining that he is overpaid is legitimate. That extension was a mistake- he's not worth top-10 money. The second highest paid player on offense shouldn't be TE3. Muth seems like a good guy, but I would be looking to offload him. Maybe he'll be a star elsewhere (though I doubt it), but it's not working out here.

As to the thread OP I found this today.

Looks like the Steelers at least keeping an open mind about WR position.

Obviously Wilson wasn’t able to seize the moment while Austin III recovered from his injury.

Admittedly I know nothing about this individual they showed interest in.
The Steelers reportedly inquired about Saints WR Rashid Shaheed’s availability during Pittsburgh’s Week 5 bye. https://www.nbcsports.com/fantasy/football/player-news

What do you all think about Odell Beckham Jr.? He will need to serve a 6 game suspension first but he could possibly contribute down the stretch.

Secure NHALS early and then go deep into the PLAYOFFS. :D :D :D

Diontae Johnson is still a free agent. He must be a cancer of enormous proportions for the Steelers not to consider bringing him back.

I am looking at both NO WR’S as well the Raiders WR in Meyers. Maybe also Andy makes a call to his old Team about their WR Omar does not want to trade 2026 capital

The second highest paid player on offense shouldn't be TE3.
That’s the dysfunctional Steelers for ya.
