NOW who goes? Roster - staff moves

Post by CoolShades » Tue Jan 13, 2026 7:44 pm

The entire coaching staff should be gone.... there is no one that is not replaceable.

Omar Khan? - I’d love to see him go as well, but Art the Lessor doesn’t like change, so we’ll see. I’d like to see Weidl get the gig and build the roster.

The roster. Once a new coach is hired, there’s a new sheriff in town and the old get along gang is toast. The teacher’s pets are done.

The Heywards. Out you both go!

TJ Watt - trade him if you can

DK Metcalf? I’d revoke the contract guarantees if I could and trade him for a football.

Let the purge begin!

Mike Tomlin and NHALS - The embodiment of the soft bigotry of lowered expectations.

Danny Smith's ST units have actually been pretty good for a long time (after sucking for a long time before that).

I absolutely would unload TJ and Cam for whatever I can get. But truthfully I'm not sure we get much for them given their performance relative to their contracts.

Metcalf maybe should get moved, but again hard with that contract. I still think he's a top receiver in a real offense with a competent QB. You gotta pay someone, and you can't gut the whole roster.

I think JPJ has some potential, but definitely have to get rid of any Tomlin guys. This team may have a "culture", but the team needs disinfected of that NHALS culture.

Cam Heyward will probably retire. He is borderline HOFer. He was a top 5 dlineman in the NFL this season. CH will be badly missed.

Unless PS get lucky w/a draft pick and Harmon/Benton take a massive leap the dline is going to get pounded next season.

TJ needs to be traded. Let him go to a contender. I wouldn't be averse to trading Metcalf as well, that drop last night is still irking me.

I would keep Danny Smith, that's about it for coaches.

Rooney should appoint himself as Chairman Emeritus and hire a true professional President of Football Operations. Don't anoint the leadership to another Rooney family member "whose time has come". It's long past time to modernize the organization and get a smart football executive to run the team.

TJ 's contract makes trading him pretty much impossible.

Probably the same thing with Metcalf.

There's no way a new HC is keeping them.

Tomlin was very green when they hired him. Deuce had to keep Lebeau and Arians to run things.

Can’t cut some players due to their contracts. The dead money would kill this team’s cap for several years.

I want to immediately cut both heywards , Queen, j smith and trice.

After firing art smith and allowing teryl Austin to exit the building.

Example:

Cutting Watt, Metcalf Heyward, Smith and Queen bump your dead cap up into the 100’s of millions.

Better to restructure and ween yourself off these leaches.

I would assume the entire coaching staff is gone.

Better pack up now boys.

A clean slate, I can't believe this is happening. I was so sure we would have one more dramatic year of Coach T and his unbridled buffoonery.

Can I even love this sport anymore after all this. I have to figure out how to all over again.

IDK-- everything I hear says Danny Rooney is more like Dan Rooney than Art 2. A football guy.

i think the draft coming up had a lot to do with this
plus the full on confrontation (another embarassing beat down) with the Fact that the issues are philosophical and systemic and not just bad luck
and, it now appears the theory was correct that Tomlin (with these vets and trades) was given one last chance to prove his Plan or fail
i know i repeat it often but Cowher called it end of last season
there only 2 possible conclusions from the years of failure -- bad Plan or ineffective players. Tomlin being stubborn insisted it was players and was allowed a sort of test - he was given latitude to being Vets that he said could Execute his Plan. He was proven wrong and the System was laid bare.

I would launch DK and TJ into the sun

The only coach I would keep is Danny Smith

FFS, Cam Heyward and Watt aren't leeches. Heyward is one my favorite Steelers. He got better with age to the point he was arguably the best dlineman in the NFL this season. Watt got the injury bug and hasn't been the same since. He still has value, and Steelers can get a an early 3rd or a late 2nd for him. I have no doubt a contender that has that "one more piece" syndrome will take him for that.

Can someone clarify...Is DK's contract still voidable? If so, send him packing.

The Cowboys are stupid enough to trade for Watt. May only get a 3rd but that would be a huge win.

I'd shop Queen too.

Bye bye fat Cam and your nepo brother.

What a great day. :D

I don't get the Cam Heyward hate at all. He is the best dlineman Steelers had since the Steel Curtain days and it isn't close. If he hangs them up. Love to see him hired as an assistant DL coach or something similar.

No. He needs to go.

He was the bonafide “leader” of a defense never ready for the big games.

Great player in his prime, still has a wee bit in the tank, but he needs to go with his buddy HC and take lil bro with you.

I saw that vet shit with Coach Buddy Parker in the ‘60s. Never liked it. Noll played Super Bowls with full roster of guys who never played for another team.

That part didn't go over well.

He didn't hit either of his incentives from renegotiation. Ended up playing for the same amount.

That may be and if so, then let young Danny be second in command and learn first under a more experienced football guy. Good to see he did some scouting, got his MBA and did some things outside football before coming back. I'm apprehensive about the team giving the trust of rebuilding to someone who hasn't had way more GM/personnel experience. This isn't the same ol' NFL.
