If 2027 did end up looking like this:
2027 projected 1 2 3 4 5 5 5 6 6 7 7 7 7
You could consolidate 4 5 5 and maybe someone hopefully coming off a good year like Payton Wilson for 3
Maybe 6 6 7 7 and a guy who had some quality relief snaps like Silver gets you a 5
1 2 3 3 5 5 7 7
and package 1 3 5 for a great ILB to pair with Hill
2 gets a monster to team up with Harmon and Black
And 3 adds another freak at TE or the missing piece at WR

But other teams routinely work the draft with great success
Do you think my valuations are off base as far as trade value ??
Do you think any of those players are ever gonna see genuine Lombardi contention in Pittsburgh ??
Do you think any of them are irreplaceable ??

Depending on if the Steelers could eat some $$$$ for trade partner....Watt should get a 2.
I do not see them trading Watt.
Highsmith was the best of the OLB's down the stretch.
I could see Ramsey trade.
I do not see teams trading for DK, but a passing team with a young inexpensive #1, could fit.
I think they keep Mooth.......shave off Jonnu salary.
Queen is alot of $ to shed, but in the last year of his contract and at 27, he could be an enticing target.
No to Benton. New coach, new position, direction, coaching....he could be a better player, plus Cams age, npot enough depth to part ways

if Benton gets to play in a 4-3 as a 3-tech, I think he'd be great.

Maybe
I guess my question is
Suppose he has a good year …..
Do I really wanna fork over C2 dollars for a guy who’s had 1 good year ?? Particularly when I could draft someone like DeMonte Capehart who might end up being better and cheaper
Benton has been part of a team that absolutely gets owned whenever a good team wants to run on them and he hasn’t been much of a pass rusher
If I’m gonna take a chance it’s gonna be on someone younger cheaper and with better measurables

Put me on the other side - just for this year.
Why not put all the chips forward and give it one more shot with this Roster before a rebuild - I only say this if we can keep Rodgers interested and healthy. 2 more legitimate targets for him and we're a different team.
1. New HC/OC/DC
2. Keep Rodgers 1 more year
3. Warren and Gainwell have us covered in the backfield
4. Add a true #2 WR
5. Upgrade Muth to another offensive weapon TE
6. Draft ILB, CB, S
Keep Highsmith,
Keep WATT (unless we can get a game breaking TE or WR and/or a very high pick for him)
Keep Ramsay/Porter JR

Don’t overlook the other possibility that draft process is working just fine, and the development process is in ruins.
I am sure you know this, but most of us would probably say it is both.
I personally think the development processes are really outside the guardrails more than we know. I expect a bump in record the next 2 years as we discover Tomlin wasn’t making lemonade from lemons but rather making piss from grapes because of the fine line between making wine and squashing grapes due to the awful coaching assistants and/or the yoke with which Tomlin had them saddled.

Nobody's trading for TJ with that contract.
They should have dealt him prior to this season.
He's unmovable now.

Rodgers came to Pittsburgh for one reason. To play for Mike Tomlin.
I think he's probably going to permanently retire, but even if he decides to play again, it won't be in Pittsburgh.

They have to be really prudent going forward with player personnel and their expensive contracts.
They will have to restructure the top 3 to 5 earners and cut a bunch of fat from the roster.
Even if the dead cap space gets ugly. Cut your losses now versus kicking the can down the road any more.
Restructure, Watt, Metcalf, Ramsey, Highsmith and Freiermuth and position themselves for a trade partner or cut when it’s more convenient.
Those names right there establishes real savings in the cap. Increasing the cap space to approximately. $80m with only bout $8m dead cap.
Cut players no longer useful or practical like Trice, J. Smith, M. Harrison, C. Heyward and P. Queen.
The cap increases to over $120m while the dead cap also increases to $22m.
Maximizing their savings, they could look at restructuring 2 more players, J. Warren and D. Elliott increasing the cap space by another $4m.
So now [theoretically] they would have approximately $115+m cap space subtracting the draft cap needed and around $30m dead cap total.
Resigning RFA’s and other players like Kenneth Gainwell, Asante Samuel Jr and any other league F/A’s becomes more doable if that’s the approach.
The draft is anyone’s guess who falls and who the Steelers actually select whether they trade up or down. Crapshoot.
Echoing someone else’s good idea again in here. Khan promoted to Pres. of Player Personnel handling the $$$ and promote Weidl to GM drafting.

Not for one second and not so much because of McCarthy, Rodgers came to Pittsburgh for Tomlin and for a last attempt at a ring.the-other-burg wrote: ↑Tue Jan 20, 2026 8:29 pmYou dont think Rodgers would consider playing for McCarthy?
I'm not sure why Rodgers believed getting a ring with Tomlin was possible, but he believed it. I will guarantee that Rodgers no longer believes the Steelers are simply a QB like him away from competing for championships.
Why would Rodgers want to go to an old team with so many holes? Answer: he won't.
In the end, I think this season was Rodgers' last. He was basically crying and telling Tomlin he was sorry when Tomlin broke the news he was leaving coaching.
The only possible way you'll see Rodgers on a football field again will be in a similar manner to what happened with Philip Rivers. A contender (obviously not the Steelers) loses a QB later in the season. Man the Texans would have been a great landing spot for Rodgers this season.

totally spot on one year to0 late for Watt to be moved and Tomlin to leave.
nobody is going to trade for that salary with a guy who best years are behind him

Exactly. A situation like this would be perfect for Rodgers, even if he only had a week to get it together.Steelafan77 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 20, 2026 9:00 pmHow bout the Broncos now?K_C_ wrote: ↑Tue Jan 20, 2026 8:35 pmThe only possible way you'll see Rodgers on a football field again will be in a similar manner to what happened with Philip Rivers. Rodgers could do mercenary work like this for the Broncos and possibly win another ring.
