Round 2: Pat Freiermuth

That's not a helpful reality check, B2B

Will Pat Freiermuth Be The Pittsburgh Steelers TE1 in 2021?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nrh4ZDTeGyk
Moats was a big fan of the pick. He talked him up for like a 20 or 30 minute segment before the draft on why he wanted to get him in the second round.
He is not backing off any of it.

Got us all super stoked when we watched him level a return guy in his college highlights reel.Jizz Mop wrote: ↑Tue May 04, 2021 8:43 pmThe Puntisher. You forgot punter. We had horrible punters. Now we have a Ray Guy winner.

Man, I hope Freiermuth is better than I think he is. All I can see is a future Benny Snell Football level of devotion to a guy who isn't all that great.

It is all up to him. If he has good hands, all he has to do is go Aspergers on footwork. Footwork will get him open and will set his base for blocking. Just go study Ward and Largent tapes is my advice.bradshaw2ben wrote: ↑Thu May 06, 2021 12:48 pmMan, I hope Freiermuth is better than I think he is. His footwork is really good. Even with that advantage, smooth coverage LBs tracked him perfectly well. We shall see. If he really, really works on blocking strength, hand placement, and leverage, he'll stick and likely be a great component. I don't have high expectations for him as a receiver, so his path is really about his value as a blocker... with enough receiving skills to be a threat.LakecrestSteeler wrote: ↑Thu May 06, 2021 1:57 pmIt is all up to him. I like the players we drafted in the first two rounds a lot. I just hate our tackles which makes it tough to get excited about these guys. Still hoping we sign a vet for the LT spot.stillthere wrote: ↑Thu May 06, 2021 5:33 am

But the biggest revelation I've had listening to some coverage on ESPN Pittsburgh on IHeart and watching videos like this is Arthrur Moats LOVES to fucking talk. There were a few times during the coverage when I was thinking the other guys must be getting pissed because they can barely get a word in. I'm actually kind of jealous. Wish I loved my job as much as he obviously does.
Howard Griffith had to resort to chop-blocking him during the 1997 AFC Championship Game. An incredulous Kirkland asked Griffith, “Why do you have to use cheap tactics like chop-blocking?” Griffith replied “Why do you have to be a 300-pound linebacker?”

JuJu, Claypool, DJ, Ebron, Washington, Najee … not that there is a whole lot of targets to go around in the offense, but I for sure like Freiermuth > Samuels, McCloud, McFarland, et al.
3 out of the first 5 are likely to still be here in 2 seasons. Pat should factor into the top 4 options by that point, and Pittsburgh has had no issues finding wide receivers for years and years now. So the Steelers should be able to maintain 5 quality pass catching options going forward, which looks like an ideal total to feed.
And if he can block, I can get excited about the future of this pick.

20 is still pretty young, but we’ve had more 20-21 than 22-23 on draft day lately.Baltostiller wrote: ↑Tue May 04, 2021 4:51 pmWTF, Harris just turned 23 in March. Having just had 2 kids graduate from High School it is now very common for athletes to be held back in Middle school and graduate HS having just turned 19. He then played 4 years (no redshirt). Guys like JJSS and Pouncey (getting drafted at 20) are the exception rather than the rule.Greeksteel wrote: ↑Tue May 04, 2021 4:42 pm
true Harris will be 24, maybe they didnt want an overly older class?, just saying it may have been a factor....i mean going back to back picks with prospects being 24 and 25 yrs old may have been a bit much. i like Chrsitensen as a player btw
age at draft for recent steeler 1st rounders:
2010 Pouncey 20
2011 Heyward - 21
2012 Decastro - 22
2013 Jarvis Jones - 23
2014 Shazier - 21
2015 bud dupree - 22
2016 Artie burns -20
2017 TJ watt - 22
2018 Terrell Edmunds - 21
2019 Devin Bush - 20
2020 None
2021 Harris - 23
Drafting Freiermuth. Extending Tomlin. It's all starting to make sense - Deuce is getting all his ducks in a row for the NFL return of attrition football!bradshaw2ben wrote: ↑Thu May 06, 2021 12:48 pmMan, I hope Freiermuth is better than I think he is. Early in the season when we run the football 2 out of 3 times on first downs in the first half of games per Mike Tomlin's orders to the OC banging our head against walls kicking FGs excluding the last drive of the half.... I will be banging my head against the wall.
Throw. The. Football. On. First. Down.
