Usually when a oline is bringing that to the table they're in trouble.
Can't even get excited when I see the opposing team is missing starters on the line. Just means we won't sniff their QB
Yeah...but most of that was quick throws. Secondary too loose and Brady and lots of space to make the quick throws.

Offense is going to be the best offense we have had in decades.
Defense can't get worse. A lot of blown plays bc of confusion. Shazier is going to be special.
This is the worst situation to walk into on opening day and the best qb we will face. On the road. Week 1. With a lot of new faces on defense and a new scheme and two of our best players suspended.
I expected to get totally outclassed. In some ways, we did. But if we executed the basic stuff -- field goals, goal line play calls, for example -- it's a completely different game, even if everything else broke down the same way.
This team is going to be competitive versus every team that doesn't have a future hall of farmer under center. It won't always be pretty.
I agree. All things considered, their physical play was not bad. Must eliminate the mental errors though.
We've been saying this for what, 8 years now? At some point we need to acknowledge the fact this team is never going to be smart under Tomlin.

An away game opening night against the pumped up defending super bowl champions who just got their HOF QB back from a cheating suspension.
Lots of people thought the Pats would put up 40 easily, maybe even 50 again as they did against Lebeau.
That didn't happen, and had the Steelers not played Haleyball minus the points - this game was winnable.
All this without two serious weapons on offense.

He had more TFLs in one game than we had all of last season.
Exaggeration, but he flashed. Repeatedly. At certain points however they played him outside and he's simply not an olb. He doesn't have the pass rushing repertoire. His coverage needs to improve. That will come with time. But he reminds me a lot of a young polamalu. If he becomes even half of that, he will be a good one.

Finally retired: 31DEC25
He finally quit: 13JAN26

I respectfully disagree gentlemen. What upsets me most is the mental softness and that IMo we did not play "physically well". I saw DBs making half ass efforts. I see LBs content to chase. I see a team that seemed to have its shoulders down all night.

Brady got the ball out in 2 seconds most times. They could have put garbage cans at center and guard.
I mean, do people here know football at all? That's why I avoid these threads. To much stupidity.

I'm with you Knife. The team scrapped on both sides of the ball. Everyone knew coming in that this wasn't a team that would hit its stride right out of the gate. Too many question marks and new faces.
Scoring a td on the first drive, making a couple field goals. Recovering that fumble. Correctable mistakes out there.
I'm predicting 11-5
All this may be true, Knife & RS....but remains the case that The Potted Fuckin' Plant Mike Tomlin is one DUMB mother fucker....awful fuckin' football coach.

A defense that was confused at there assignments. Not lack of effort.

franco32 wrote:We knew the D was pretty shitty...but I'm most disappointed in 3 things.
1. Red zone offensive play was shit. Almost 500 yards in offense and only 21 points to show for it. Offense has to be better knowing our D is mediocre at best.
2. Butler made ZERO adjustments in the middle of the game when the Pats were simply playing pitch and catch.
3. Tomlin's time management skills are horrific. Of course, he'll say he did fine.
Can't argue with any of those. Why we weren't attacking that O-line is beyond me. We were supposed to see a more aggressive D. DL could have been calling the plays tonight because it was the same defense we've been seeing with the same lack of talent to execute it.
Howard Griffith had to resort to chop-blocking him during the 1997 AFC Championship Game. An incredulous Kirkland asked Griffith, “Why do you have to use cheap tactics like chop-blocking?” Griffith replied “Why do you have to be a 300-pound linebacker?”

Chickenshit playcalling on offense. throw the ball on first down early in the game and then come back with the run game.

Also, Jarvis jones is terrible. Pass rushing is bad. Coverage even worse. Repeatedly failed to get wide when he had curl/flat responsibilities.

You can't say fuck you when your losing and scoring a garbage time touchdown.
SO what. He said fuck you. Win or lose, fuck that organization. He didn't dance. I support it. .
So what is exactly right - I doubt any of the fans he was jawing with are going away with anything but total laughter about how pathetic it was for Brown to engage them after a garbage time TD. It's a lose-lose move for Brown.

And that's my problem. Get up on their receivers, TRY to disrupt them coming off the line so Brady will have to hold the ball a little while longer so the front 7 can get to him.

True, but you've got to get pressure up the middle against him.
And tighten up those 12 yard cushions.

Yes, I don't think Brady got this second read all that much tonight... it was 3 steps and throw. As you say - a garbage can slows you down enough to prevent you from getting there in time.

he didn't stand out as bad or good to me. Nobody was getting to the QB in 2 seconds. He did stack up Solder and have a TFL. That play was impressive.

I might be wrong, but we played very little man to man from my recollection. Free releases most of the night. That just isn't going to work against this dink and dunk bullshit.
That said...we basically pissed away 10 free points tonight. It was a very winnable game.

haha go to bed... you're drunk or suffered a head injury
I'm just sick of Ben playing small against the patriots. Can we have a good game on offense for fucking once against this team? The offense was disappointing. The defense sucked as expected.
did ben jump offside on 1st & goal at the 1? Did he lollygag back to the line when then were trying to get plays off? Did he call that cluster fuck of a trick play or the grab bag of take the ball out of Ben's hands in the red zone that we just witnessed? Did he drop balls that went right straight through the receivers hands or catch a ball out of bounds with no one around you and the ball nowhere near the sideline? Did he miss 2 fucking FGs in dry September weather?
I know he missed a couple of throws but so did Brady. He's got Gronk and we decided not to cover him about half the time and did that while we were playing a TOP game with little margin for error... no defensive errors allowed and no Ben errors either.
I don't like the result and there is certainly plenty of ammunition for those who are going to say- same old shit as every year... but there's certainly hope for the season. It seems like this team could get better and yet they played the defending champs and their arch nemesis Brady and the unstoppable Gronk/Edelman-- tough for most of the game. A few stupid plays on O, D, & STs = a defeat in a game most thought they'd be blown out.

Blake was outclassed by Edelman. His tackling sucks too. Horribly. I don't think it was effort necessarily. But it was horrid.
