he didn't stand out as bad or good to me. Nobody was getting to the QB in 2 seconds. He did stack up Solder and have a TFL. That play was impressive.

He was bad

This is seriously unacceptable. You know he had to be seething inside watching guys screw the pooch over and over and he not even getting a chance.

Another bad move by Butler tonight.

He's our best DB.

Not one of our best DB's, Boykin is OUR BEST FUCKING DB and he's riding the pine, watching these pieces of human shit play.

It's actually sort of funny.

I'm having Charred Scott, Burnt Alexander, and Lee Flowers flashbacks right now. Antwon Blake is going to reach that level of hatred soon.

He has no pass rushing arsenal. He's slow. That play was his best play in a steelers uniform.

Bigger problem for me is he was absolutely lost in space. Go back and watch the pats first drive where they kept hitting Edelman for curls on the left sideline. Those were on jones not getting wide enough and not knowing where people were on the field.

Either we have full on retards as head coaches or Kraft bribed them to sit Boykin. I could not understand Blake continuing to be raped and nothing being done. Infuriating

They have to keep him under 60% of snaps to preserve their 4th rounder.

Lost because of Doc Legursky. he ruined Shaz's great night who is going to be a a HOF. I cant wait until Saint Pouncey comes back.

Thats just some of the dumb that I gleened from this thread.

I'm just sick of Ben playing small against the patriots. Can we have a good game on offense for fucking once against this team? The offense was disappointing. The defense sucked as expected.
did ben jump offside on 1st & goal at the 1? Did he lollygag back to the line when then were trying to get plays off? Did he call that cluster fuck of a trick play or the grab bag of take the ball out of Ben's hands in the red zone that we just witnessed? Did he drop balls that went right straight through the receivers hands or catch a ball out of bounds with no one around you and the ball nowhere near the sideline? Did he miss 2 fucking FGs in dry September weather?

I know he missed a couple of throws but so did Brady. He's got Gronk and we decided not to cover him about half the time and did that while we were playing a TOP game with little margin for error... no defensive errors allowed and no Ben errors either.

I don't like the result and there is certainly plenty of ammunition for those who are going to say- same old shit as every year... but there's certainly hope for the season. It seems like this team could get better and yet they played the defending champs and their arch nemesis Brady and the unstoppable Gronk/Edelman-- tough for most of the game. A few stupid plays on O, D, & STs = a defeat in a game most thought they'd be blown out.

Ben missed Heath badly once. I didn't see too many other bonehead moves until the desperation INT at the end. He seemed poised and accurate most of the night. Do people want 30-30 500 yards opening night visiting the defending champs?

I'm confused. What game did I watch?

yeah I regret suggesting that they drop Jarvis in coverage and bring the heat inside-- Jarvis is really bad in coverage. Wow.

Also, Blake is in there because of his tackling and he missed about 5 in one game.

If Boykin is worse than Antwon Blake, cut him now so we only have to give up a 6th.

True, but you've got to get pressure up the middle against him.

And tighten up those 12 yard cushions.

sure thing. But until the can take away from receivers, whats the point of bitching about the pass rush. They'd have been better off getting hands up at the line. That would be a realistic beef to have with them.

That said...we basically pissed away 10 free points tonight. It was a very winnable game.

we played some man. Brady missed a wide open Amendola on a pick play, then hit the same play later and didn't miss.

jones won't be in a steelers uniform next season.

Harrison/Moats and Dupree should be our starting OLBs.

Not saying Dupree will be good or played well enough to start. But he showed more in his first game than jones has since day 1. And I'd rather throw him to the wolves and let him learn on the job.

If the Hoodie had 2 months to prepare for any type of contest against Tomlin he'd beat him 100% of the time

Hell he'd beat Tomlin in the 40 with 2 months to prepare. Tomlin would show up all fat and forget his running shoes

This team can't manage clock or timeouts while the Patriots D back attributes what is probably the most influential single play in SB history to......preparedness. He was coached on that specific scenario a week prior.

Oh....my favorite play calls of the night were at the goal line. Deangelo is running well all night and you keep pulling him at the one and making Will Fckin Johnson your half back. I know he scored (barely) but the rest of the time it was a cluster.

You can't make this shit up.

good question. In the thread about the feel good story on Boykin, i was told by FortyThree if Boykin got a hat he would be on the field. I had my doubts based on the depth chart. He may not have the D down like they would like, but most of the DBs didn't know where to be on the field.

Usually when a oline is bringing that to the table they're in trouble.

Can't even get excited when I see the opposing team is missing starters on the line. Just means we won't sniff their QB

Yeah...but most of that was quick throws. Secondary too loose and Brady and lots of space to make the quick throws.

And that's my problem. Get up on their receivers, TRY to disrupt them coming off the line so Brady will have to hold the ball a little while longer so the front 7 can get to him.

I mentioned this in the game thread. The DL has no pass rush move. Watch the DL all they do is try to bull rush the OL arms extended. No one does a rip, swim, counter or even a spin move to get pressure. Brady always has trouble with pressure coming up the middle (like most QBs) and it disrupts his timing. Pressure on the edge doesn't hurt him because the ball is normally gone before it can get there. Jamming the WR's and Gronk and pressure up the middle are the way to beat them. (see Jets and Ratbirds)

Jervis got the better of the Solder a handful of times in the first half. Harrison played more and did nothing either. When Brady unloads the ball in 2 seconds, front 7 wont be a factor. Antwon Blake's 5 yard cushion was cute.

I'm trying to be happy it ended up being a seven point difference.

I'm not because I know the Steelers' play was actually quite worse.

I'm not glad the Pats didn't score 40. The only reason they didn't score 40 was because we had the ball so much.

And I'm not happy we had the ball so much because we only managed two TDs.

I am serious...it all went downhill for me from the moment they pulled out the trick play.

For the life of me I cannot understand why the coaches don't know that you don't pull out a trick play when you are moving the ball conventionally.

Doubly shitty night because the Pirates lost tonight because of equal stupidity...a plethora of baselining errors ran them out of innings they could have scored in.

You're a fucking moron.

Tomlin missed 2 FG's, failed to jump on a fumble, sucked as defending Gronkowski, threw an INT, Held in crucial situations, called shitty plays on important downs, etc. You NEVER hold the players accountable. Haley is the most at blame for his gutless 3rd down and goalline calls.

Here's a thought. How about having a CB in because of his coverage and tackling? Blake proved he can perform when expectations for him are low but under the spotlight he withers and blows away.
