We were gifted 2 ints including the pick 6

Bostic in Fitz face deflects a pass and Hilton gets the int.
McCullers pushes a lineman into Fitz lap and gets his big paw up not allowing Fitz to follow through, making the throw go high for Buds pick six.
Artie gets helmet on ball, forcing the fumble Hilton pounces on.

This defense certainly has plenty of issues to bitch on, but when they do make plays, let’s not minimize them as “gifts”. Credit where credit due...

You might be right. I need to look at those plays again

This, in the first half.

I was talking to a buddy before the game and said I don't give a fuck what happens, blitz as many people as you need to in order to get Fitz out of rhythm, especially pressure up the middle. If they hit bombs, fuck it, make them be perfect. Loved the first half defensive strategy. Of course, just as we are comfortable at halftime, Tomlin does his Jekyll and Hyde shit and turns it back to vanilla and a nail biter. If we can ever put 60 minutes of good football together, this team is going to be salty. Better figure it out because we're going to need it Sunday night.

Tomlin certainly fucked up the clock, but the team is making up for it.

There may be something clinically wrong with you if you persist in the notion that Tomlin doesn't know how to manage the clock to perfection at the end of the 1st half, in particular. I think they've led the NFL in point differential at end of halves, and the drive tonight was utter perfection in terms of time management–both in how much time was used before they got the ball and how perfectly the time was used.

There have been literally millions of examples of mismanaged clock by Tomlin. He only has that many points because Ben is brilliant. Can I prove that? No. But neither does your stat prove that Tomlin is great at managing clock.

I just rewatched all 3 picks...

The first one is obvious. Bostic blitz tipped the football.

2nd int... that was a Fitztragic throw. He had a nice pocket to step up into. He was able to comfortably step into that throw.

3rd int... we did get pressure up the middle so good for us.

I will add this...

Not allowing the qb to get comfortable and into a rhythm can even lead to more throws like the Fitztragic 2nd int.

It seems like an obvious blowout but this is the Steelers.

I predict weak ass zone butter defense and we gnashing the teeth till the end

Winner, winner, chicken dinner!

Bam Morris called that one perfectly.

Put in some film study today. While scrubbing tape on our diff defensive packages, I rewatcued the Edmunds INT.

Did anyone feel his return was sort of “Polamalu-like?”

Because our defense is terrible.

Especially our secondary.

...and now, Hilton (who struggled the first two games and was fantastic tonight) is likely gone awhile.

Fucco might be beating off getting ready for this game.

I agree. But maybe there is some hope, the defense looked OK until the 4th, maybe fatigue and Hilton injury.

Also, we have faced 2 of the best offenses so far, the not many teams have Evan's, Howard and Jackson. Or the Chiefs weapons.

And who knows, at home in primetime might just get them going.

Mismanaged according to whom?

Let's put it this way: Ben & Tomlin together are either dumb-assed lucky to the extreme or really, really good at managing the end of halves. The results are outlier great. I think their strategy is noteworthy (and the subject of much gnashing of teeth), because they're all about making sure the other team doesn't score:
Priority order:
1. use all the clock so the opponent doesn't score before the half
2. save a TO so all options are on the table as far as run or MOF pass
3. get at least 3
4. score a TD with as close to :00 on the clock as possible
5. Score a TD too fast.

Their internal logic might be wrong but they are consistent and they achieve equally consistent results.

Of course that logic is wholly dependent upon situation. If you are down more than 7, then the most important thing is to score a TD. If you are up 7, then the most important thing is to be the only party that scores.

It also matters who is receiving the second half kick.

I agree Tomlin has that strategy. The strategy isn’t very flexible however.

To be honest, double digit penalties haven't exactly been rare this season.

That was a beast mode play by McCullers. A high impact play.
