Call me crazy, but seeing Timmons in Miami, Colbert ought to be calling Hightower's agent.

Great rotational player with Hargraves. Eliminates going DLine shopping in the draft. One more draft pick to have for BPA...

@MikeGiardi
Source tells me Butler & his camp remain extremely frustrated by Pats position & Gilmore signing. Courting offers elsewhere. Wants new home https://twitter.com/MikeGiardi/status/8 ... 1140141056

Is it fish bait for a sucker franchise needing veteran corner help? Or an unhappy player looking to get away from an uncomfortable situation? Wonder what kind of payday dude is looking for?

You would think that they'd be in the running for Hightower and/or Butler not just because of need, but because these players are from the franchise that poses the greatest threat by far to the Steelers getting to the Super Bowl. But, of course, we do what we do.

Free agent OLB Jarvis Jones will meet with the Cardinals on Monday.
It is the first known interest for Jones, but ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the Steelers are still interested in bringing him back. A first-round disappointment, Jones recorded just six sacks in four seasons with Pittsburgh.

Per Rotoworld:
The Jets are reportedly showing interest in free agent LB Dont'a Hightower.
In their current bottoming-out state, the Jets have no business paying top dollar for an inside linebacker after drafting Darron Lee in the first round last year. This smells of an agent-driven report, fingering a division rival as having interest in a player the Patriots are known to want back, albeit only at their price. Hightower wants to become the NFL's highest-paid inside linebacker. Luke Kuechly currently is at over $12 million per year.

Hightower has already visited the Titans and Jets, but both teams reportedly left the meeting assuming he would re-sign with the Patriots. The Steelers do have a need at linebacker after letting Lawrence Timmons walk, but this entire adventure seems like an effort to drive up the Pats' offer.

Maybe it's just the Steelers putting that out there so someone thinks they can "steal" him away form the Burgh.

I hope they snag his ass soon.

I will say this. If Jervis flippin' Jones is in a Steeler uniform this coming summer then it is absolutely certain to me that the Steelers' brain trust has ZERO interest in overcoming the Patriots.

I hav no idea what this organization is trying to do.

Why don't they want to get better? They have some extra $ this time around, it makes no sense.

Yeah. I agree with that. Can't wait for the whoosh behind him leaving the south side facility.

Forget Championship! We're talking Dynasty!!!

Free agent WR Justin Hunter is visiting the Steelers on Monday.

Coming off the mildest of career revivals in Buffalo, Hunter visited the Patriots on Friday. Hunter turns 26 in May.

Paying almost $9 million dollars a year for a center really seems smart.

I'm not totally disagreeing with you, but can we really look at Le'Veon Bell's rushing success in a vacuum and not look at what the linemen are doing? His salary might be high for his position, but it's hard to deny that Pouncey is a special player -- especially in the run game. I realize he's been hurt and we've seen a few other journeymen step in and play well, but the fact of the matter is, we have a damn good OL right now and a lot of what they do is predicated on athleticism at the center position.

We've seen the other side of this coin, too. In 2008, we had a top defense with elite pass rushers, but a bottom of the barrel offensive line. In the Super Bowl, our center gave up a holding call in our own endzone for a safety. Back then, we were clamoring for the Steelers to improve the talent on the OL and said it was the one thing holding this team back. Now, we've totally flipped on that.

I realize there's middle ground here, and I know that, that's your point. Pay the tackles and maybe a guard, but the center isn't as important. Use that money for a linebacker or defensive back. I don't completely disagree. But it's hard for me to look at what a strength our OL has become, and look back at what it used to be, and ask them to change anything about it -- including cutting their Pro Bowl center.

I know this isn't a flashy answer, or a quick fix, but I really think the Steelers just need to draft better. Building through the draft is, in my opinion, the best way to construct a team. If, in the last five years, they had drafted a capable outside linebacker, this team would be where we want them to be.

That said, I also see Ben's time winding down and I wish they'd bring in a ringer at ROLB through free agency.

It's pretty damn annoying. I get sticking with what brought ya to the promise land, but it seems to me that you can go back to the Steeler way after Ben's window is shut. Back up the Brinks and go get a Lombardi fer fuck's sake! I'm good with four or five cap hell shit seasons if we can get another SB ring before Ben retires.

I want Sid/Geno to get another Cup and Ben to get another ring in the next few years.

Those things happening cement their legacies

Cap hit this year is $11MM 4th highest paid player on the team, in 2018 $10.5MM, 2019$10.5MM. This for arguably the least important position of the starting 22. The good news is when the deal is up, Ben retires and we can finish off rebuilding our defense

Do you think BB would pay any center $11MM?? Absurd

Absurd is right. Especially when we seen the o-line not lose a beat with Cody "The Proctologist" Wallace fill in admirably for said center.
