Drama suffering the 2023 equivalent of "the dog ate my homework". His draft database laptop trashed by his son's gatorade coming from practice.

Well that concludes the 2023 Seattle Seahawks draft class.

1.5 Christian Gonzalez, CB, Oregon
1 20 Trenton Simpson LB Clemson
2 37 Bryan Breese DE Clemson
2 48. Mazi Smith NT Michigan
3.84 Marvin Mims WR Oklahoma
(Trade rd 4,5,5 picks) Deforest Buckner DE Colts

Seattle had a pretty efficient offense under Pete Carrol last year, but they are trying to play a 3-4 defense without the horses up front. When Seattle was good, they did it with defense. Adding Gonzales on the back end with Tariq Woolen and Cobb Bryant gives them a young and talented secondary like they had in the Legion of Boom days. Putting Bucker, Mazi Smith and Bryan Breese up front with Jarran Reed as quality depth makes for a dynamic group of linemen. I even dumped Devin Bush and upgraded with Trenton Simpson at ILB. Mims adds a speedy slot WR to go with two studs they already have on the outside.

@Ice I tried to make them fair. I’ve turned down ones that I thought were lopsided.

The two players I traded for weren’t going to make the team and the two comp 3s for 80 was pretty square. The only debatable one is Dotson for 192, and I even think that’s reasonable for a G with starting experience who isn’t out and out terrible.

Like I’ll be surprised if Dotson is out and out released. Either he’s going to stay as depth or be moved for a late pick or something.

@BlueridgeBronc1 & @ugandasjoy01 theres buzz around here about whether the Steelers should have kept Corliss Waitman instead of our punter Harvin. Curious: what did you think of the Broncos punting last year?

I'd just be very pleased if the Steelers could turn 80 into two comp 3s in the actual draft. Still a lot of good/great prospects available there, and with our roster, two certainly beats one. They'll definitely move Dotson at this point, if they can, but that'll be the question, as he's almost guaranteed cut if not traded now.

It was very hit and miss, but our Special Teams on the whole were pretty atrocious. Waitman knocked it out of the park in camp and made Martin appear expendable, but I think they'd have kept Martin if they'd have had it to do over again. If you just look at stats, Waitman looks like he fared pretty well in terms of inside the 20 and avg. distance, but you've got to take into account that our offense was offensive enough to give him 96 (that's NINETY SIX) opportunities to punt, and a lot of those were drives that died just shy of mid-field, so inside the 20 was pretty doable. Good guy, decent leg, but not as strong as what the stats might indicate.

And I should add, the ST coaching was a serious disappointment under Dwayne Stukes, particularly when Paton had a clear emphasis on plugging holes on ST in the 2022 Draft.

I was thinking about it. Hassenauer is already gone. Green is as good as gone. Those are the first two go. So in an ideal world we're left with:

LT Okorafor
LG Daniels
C Cole
RG Semualo
RT Draft Pick
Swing IOL Herbig
Swing OT Moore

That's 7. They're going to carry at least 8, and probably 9. I suspect they bring in a couple UDFA or cheap vets to compete for the last spots. Dotson probably goes back to getting some more snaps at C (as he did first two years of camp). He then just has to beat out scrubs for a roster spot... or they trade him for some value.

On a related note, the Broncos are still interested in trading Jeudy for a package that would include a starting caliber player and picks that would value a late two. I've DM'd a couple of you with some ideas. Peace, Friends!

Perch you may well fare better than they will IRL. Although it's true they could mic drop and retire after last year's offseason.

There was a little misunderstanding re: Greeksteel's pick. The DL that was posted is still available and the correct pick is YaYa Diaby from Louisville. I have corrected the available players list.

Very nice draft @Steelperch.

My biggest question is what in the hell is SEA doing with their Safety room (BTW, it's not that concrete and steel, fortified room that you keep all of your Cap money in :P )? Unbelievably, it currently sits at ~$46M  or, put another way, accounts for 24% :o of your Top 51 Salary Cap!

(for the newbies, Quan was a draft participant known for disappearing for long stretches in the middle of the draft, so now it's become a meme when anyone is close to the expiration time)

Gonzo. An all-time classic. We're so calm and organized thedse days.

The AWOL Drafters HOF

Gonzo Fear and Loathing Tour of Vegas
Quan in every year, including the year I swear someone else had his phone or number and picked players anyway
steelclan off on a scotch bender somewhere in the wilds of NorCal
SteelPerch on a fishing trip with almost no reception
then the guy who begged to get in and subsequently went AWOL for the whole draft
