the claypool curse? bears offense got way better once he went to dolphins and dolphins sure havent been pushing 70pts recently either...
Only 5 mins left with a 3 score lead, KC should pull Mahomes and key players.
I’m not saying the trade wasn’t dumb, but Ben went from having Santonio, Hines Ward, Randle El and Nate Washington to having Ward, Brown, Sanders, and Wallace…and then Wallace and Sanders were replaced with Wheaton and Bryant and then Ward by a variety of names…and then we upgraded to Le’veon Bell.
The skill position talent never really fell off from 2010 to 2018.
Not so you can claim we missed a couple Lombardis because Rooney got pissed at Holmes waking and baking.

Bullshit. If the Steelers have Santono Holmes in 2010, they have another Lombardi. The only argument against it is maybe the Jets don't beat the Pats without him.
But you put Santonio Holmes out there, and the Steelers likely have another ring because Ben was throwing to nothing on that final drive against the Packers.

KC defense is legit. As long as Mahomes can get that offense moving they should still be AFC favorites.
I didn't watch the KC/Dolphins game. Saw a highlight of Mahomes running in the redzone. He gets to the first down marker and then picks up an extra 8 or so yards by running right between a gaggle of Dolphins defenders who were too scared to hit him because Mahomes had slowed up and they probably thought he was going to slide. I guess it's the play where he broke part of his helmet after some Dolphin finally hit him at like the 2 yard line.
Basically sums up modern football.

Tua is always an MVP candidate in September and a steaming pile of shit in December.
The Dolphins would be dumber than a bag of hammers to break the bank for him, but they will.

Defenders hesitant to hit the QB...
Assuming he will slide...
Not knowing if he will slide..
Fully aware of modern day refs already reaching for the flag as the QB is running.
And Mahomes is fully aware of all the above and takes advantage of it. Think it was last year when he was running towards sideline and defenders assumed he was angling out of bounds... and he then shot north for another 5-8 yards.
Miami defenders, several, had HUGE shots lined up last night on that play. Needed to take one.
But... that's today's NFL.
And a quick thinking Dolphin could have realized a huge hit, potential unnecessary roughness penalty would not have cost much yards at that spot on field.
Mahomes has turned injury bitching Brady with the refs

15 yard penalty, ejection from the game, $50k fine and a 3 game suspension, and that was from a hit that wasn't even on a QB.
Now try to imagine the ramifications for a hit on the QB.
Defenders are probably thinking about there very own livelihood.

1. It’s never Ben’s fault.
1A. If at first it looks like Ben’s fault, check again: it was the receiver.
1B. If at first it looks like Ben’s fault, check again: it was the coordinator’s fault.

I actually disagree with most of the negative Mahomes stuff. The hit from Wilkins was unnecessary and real late. When they let Mahomes get an extra 8 yards on that run, I don’t think the Dolphins were afraid to hit him. They broke the fucking guy’s helmet when he was a runner. Either they thought Mahomes was going to run OOB or they thought he was going to slide and because Mahomes isn’t a pussy like Tua, he kept plowing forward for valuable yards.Stosh-67 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 14, 2024 12:50 pmYup.CKSteeler wrote: ↑Sun Jan 14, 2024 7:11 amI didn't watch the KC/Dolphins game. Last night’s game was all about the QB’s. One is a superstar and the other is a fraud. Plain and simple and Miami was lucky as fuck they didn’t give up 40. The Dolphins got away with a few DPI or holding penalties that probably prevented TD’s, but at least their injury-riddled defense fought.
Tua fucking blows and Mahomes is a beast.

he got clocked on the 28 yd run and his helmet got crushed. They were supposed to be given a timeout against, but the baby darling and the Chefs were give a pass

Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes’ helmet was damaged during Saturday night’s game, with a big chunk of the plastic shell breaking off in a collision. Mahomes said he had never seen that happen to a football helmet before, and he had also never played in conditions so cold before.
“I have not,” Mahomes said. “I’m sure it had to do with it being really cold.”
Mahomes said he didn’t realize his helmet was broken until teammates told him, and that he wanted to stay in the game even with a compromised helmet.
“I didn’t know what happened in the moment but I got in the huddle and everyone was telling me, but I was like, ‘I got y’all, but I’m not coming out of the game, so we can figure it out on the sideline,’” Mahomes said. “It was a first for me.”
Eventually the officials stopped play so that a replacement helmet could be given to Mahomes, but Mahomes said that helmet was so cold that it was difficult to get on his head.
“They have a backup that’s out there. We have to talk about where we store the backup because it was frozen — when I tried to put it on it was completely frozen. I couldn’t put it on,” Mahomes said.
It all worked out, but this never should have happened. The companies that manufacture football helmets are required to put them through safety testing before the helmets are approved for use in the NFL, but it’s unclear whether that testing is done under the extreme temperatures that Kansas City experienced on Saturday night. Both the NFL and the NFL Players Association should insist on testing helmets in subzero temperatures — and if there’s some temperature at which it’s too cold for helmets to perform reliably, then it’s too cold to play.

Not enough for them to say Rooney was stupid to cut Santonio loose (he was).
They have to couple it to this bullshit idea that somehow the only reason we don’t have at least one more Lombardi is because Santonio was cut loose.
When there is no way to know that.
I mean…the Jets were in the AFCCG two years in a row…2009 and 2010.
In 2009, they didn’t have Santonio. In 2010 they did.
He didn’t get THEM to the Super Bowl.
I DO remember Ben clinching the game with a clutch third down pass to a receiver named Antonio Brown that we might not have drafted otherwise.

Back on topic, here's your stat o' the day for the Browns defense:
13.8 PPG allowed at home
31.3 PPG on the road
13.8 PPG allowed at home
31.3 PPG on the road
Great question. Even if you discount the 2 defensive TDs yesterday Houston still put up 31 points on O.
Maybe someone with a subscription to some advanced stats could shed more light on it, because overall there doesn't seem to be much difference in quality of opponents/QBs, turnover margin, etc.
