The play where Billingsly?? (sp?) scored on a 3rd and long? Man that was some of the worst football effort I've seen in a long time.

I don't give a shit if it's preseason. I want a head coach that will preach and promote dominance from the beginning of August until the second week of February.

That was pathetic. Not the steelers I want to see on the field; I don't care if it's the preseason.

Aaaaand I just watched it again.

Abortion of an effort from the steelers. Made our back ups look like total bitches.

Red Rocket, younger, cheaper, rave reviews from multiple places, great college career/stats, Johnson, and Fort are ho hum journeymen jags.

did not play so well in snaps. Fort was really good. Johnson better on STs... for now.

When will Tomlin elaborate on the injury situation with Chickillo, Mihalik, Gradkowski and Ventrone? Tuesday?

Why do the PS have such a shit time with the back-up QB positions? Watching games all weekend, and there are 3rd stringers out there better than Laundry. I love Bruce because he's a Rocket, but there is no denying he is done. Hopefully they are smart enough to grab a vet during cut-downs.

I'd cut Gradkowski tomorrow, give him an injury settlement, whatever. He's done. No sense in having a backup QB that can't make it through a game, especially when your starter was a glass doll last year.

Hopefully they can find a vet to add at some point before the season. Our backup QB situation is awful and mainly why we're so bad in the preseason the last few years. I'll be surprised if we win a single preseason game with the combo of our QBs and depth on D. Thanks god for Ben and Brown.

I think that would be a mistake. The players are human. You build the season to a crescendo emotionally.

Now, fundamentals and getting it right-- yes, now is the time for that and it should show improvement as we go or something is wrong.

That would be too easy, they cut Ventrone instead. So I read but it looks to be just IR

Steelers placed S Ross Ventrone on injured reserve.
Ventrone went down in Pittsburgh's preseason opener. The former Patriot played in six games and recorded two tackles on special teams last season.

Steelers add OT Wade Hansen, DT Khaynin Mosley-Smith and CB Julian Whigham to the roster.
The Steelers announced the signings of three players today.

The players include three undrafted rookie free agents, offensive tackle Wade Hansen, defensive tackle Khaynin Mosley-Smith and cornerback Julian Whigham.

To make room on the roster, the Steelers Waived/Injured two players, offensive tackle Brian Mihalik and defensive tackle Roy Philon, and the team placed safety Ross Ventrone on the Reserve/Injured List. http://www.steelers.com/news/transactio ... 171e840cce

The Mihalik injury must be serious. Perhaps they just IR him for the season. Philon IMO never really had a chance at making the roster. Ventrone is IR'd.

Mihalik's injury not necessarily serious. He's not going anywhere, really. He can't sign with anyone until he's healthy... protects him temporarily.

Losing a lineman you need to replace them especially with practice and game coming up Thursday bodies are needed.

Hard to get choked up over a pre-season game but damn....the Steelers have failed at securing a solid backup QB IMO. Landry Jones is Landry Jones...Grad is just not good.

I watched the CFL game last night - Hamilton QB Collaros is a better QB than both PS backup QB's. It's not even close.

If Ben goes down this team is fucked once again...

To be fair to Landry, our play calling was very vanilla as well. How many end arounds must we see each game? He doesn't inspire confidence right now, but neither does Haley's play calling during the preseasons. Open the damn thing up and see what he can do instead of all this "let's be careful" shit. When he came in for Ben last year against Pittsburgh West, they opened the playbook wide open and he did outstanding. When he had to start the next game, the offensive play calling was built around "try not to lose" instead of "balls to the walls". When you have shit like that happen, not many backup QB's are going to look good. But yes, he should be able to make chicken salad out of chicken shit by now. He needs to take control and change the play if he sees something that doesn't fit. Ben has talked about how "football" intelligent he is and his ability to scrubbing tape throughout the week. We need to see that part of him in a more meaningful and positive way on the field.

They are not calling plays to beat the other team. They are calling plays because they want to see how players do.

And did I hear correctly that Grant played safety in practice yesterday?

I thought Landry looked good to very good.

His pass down the middle of the field to DHB was a thing of beauty (although dropped), and his TD pass was as well.

Anxiously awaiting news on Green. Is this dude gonna practice/play this week?

Was all I can find this morning.
From August 14th... "snip"
Ladarius Green is around the team during practices, goes to lunch with the team and stands on the sideline for games. During the early portion of each practice session, Green usually runs under the watchful eye of a trainer, maybe adding a few light cuts or footwork drills.
There's still no clarity on Green's future with the Steelers other than coach Mike Tomlin reiterates he's on the physically unable to perform list because of offseason ankle surgery. Tomlin said he isn't addressing an NFL Network report that Green is suffering from recurring headaches. http://www.espn.com/blog/pittsburgh-ste ... on-mystery

Nothing more out there that I found.

I don't know if Landry can look off his receiver, going to study that tonight. I think he telegraphs, even his well thrown balls.

Landry Jones is still a Steeler today. Colbert and Tomlin are definitely imbeciles.

Yeah, it's not rocket science. You sign Matt Flynn for one year, and roll with Vaughan as your #3. If you think Laundry Jones is a better option than Matt Flynn, I question your sanity.

After this year, you have to see what QB's are available in the draft.

It's too bad that the imbecile Colbert lost a draft choice last season on Josh Scobee. Would have been nice to use that pick to draft a QB.

What my grand plan is doesn't really matter because to my original point, Colbert and Tomlin believe in Jones. That's why they likely wouldn't have gone QB if they had that pick. That's why Jones is still a Steeler today. That's why they're imbeciles.

First of all, I've seen enough of Matt Flynn to say that it would be a toss up whether he's a better option than Laundry. To unequivocally state we'd be in a better spot with him is more opinion than reality. But, I suppose anything is possible tho.

As to LJ, I'd argue that it has been pretty clear that Tomlin is not an LJ fan and tolerates him more than believes in him. I doubt Colbert/Tomlin were jumping for joy that their backup QB situation consisted of Jones/Gradkowski.

But, after his mediocre to decent showing last year I'm okay with Colbert trying to plug the remaining holes on the roster and holding off another year before drafting a QB. And to claim Colbert is an idiot for pissing away a late rounder because we'd be in a better spot if we had used that pick on a QB is laughable. I mean, really?

Just because LJ has sucked balls so far this preseason isn't justification to start claiming Colbert shoulda addressed it earlier. I don't remember seeing anybody here clamoring for the FO to draft a QB this year ahead of all the other needs.

Jones didn't look off his primary, hmmm. Is it possible, just possible that he was tasked with getting the ball to specific targets in specific situations.?

Other than talent evaluation, we really don't know what the gameplan was. Yeah Jones could be a stiff that can't look off his primary or he was tasked with putting his primary in specific gametime situations.

At least that beats

I was fine with the Steelers spending a 3rd or 4th round pick on a QB and wanted them to draft Dak Prescott. He was available in the 4th round. Prescott looks like the real deal already after two preseason games, had a perfect 158.3 passer rating and 4 TDs in his last preseason game. He would not JUST be a backup QB but also the future starter when Ben plays out his current contract.

This stuff is not rocket science. See how easy it is? I also was the one who was calling for the Steelers to hire Mike Munchak once Tennessee fired him. Again, this stuff is not that hard. Colbert and Tomlin, give me a call anytime.

Well, I've seen plenty of preseason All-Pros thru the years that fade into oblivion. So, we will see about Prescott. Maybe. Maybe not.
