Re: The Fifth Quarter - Browns Game Recap
You all should review the second half drive summaries...in particular the no huddle part...before you continue making fools of yourselves

Is odd.....there were a few spots where it would have been apropos.
The dude running the game feed I was watching played it. Steelers win. Magic.

Literally half of the fans missed those first two Browns TD's after the half. The place was as quiet as a church in the 3rd quarter. They were too busy piling a massive quantity of food into their arms before heading back to their seats halfway through the 3rd qtr. I suppose all of the greasy food they shoved in their fat faces a couple hours earlier at the tailgate parties wasn't enough to keep them full through 90 minutes of football. I hate people....
I hate sounding like a grumpy old guy...but when I was a kid, we would sit through terrible mid-80s teams and still scream our heads off and come back after half-time. This generation of fans is soft and weak. It doesn't help that the Rooneys invested no money in designing a stadium to maximize acoustics. God forbid we blocked any of the pretty views.

Heinz Field sucks. I hate the pretty views. Swissvale correctly likes to point out that if you want to see the skyline go to Mt Washington. The place is stale, they killed tailgating, and now the fans are lame too. Oh, and I paid $60 to park 3 blocks away from the stadium while my theater seating and big screen tv sat idle at home.

Yeah, I don't go to games even when given tickets.
That stadium has no personality. And I find watching the games in person to be boring as shit anymore. Too many timeouts. It really kills the experience for me.

I really hate Heinz Field. It's pretty, that's about it.
Qwest field is an example of how stadiums should be designed.
If I'm designing an NFL stadium, my top 3 concerns:
1. Comfort (includes not just physical comfort, but views, sightlines, etc).
2. Convenience
3. Acoustics
All 3 should be possible without impacting the other categories.

Hell of a read, Perch.
Just glad my birthday starts with 1 in the W column.

AND the Pats got stomped, with Brady looking super average & taking a beating.

Two comments from the Pats game:
1. Cameron Wake owns Tom Brady. Made him his beeyotch
2. Brady is a bigger and bigger douche every year. Did you see that reaction he had wth Gronk after they scored? What in the fuck was that?

Thanks Perch....the statement, verbatim is.....
If you want a view of the Pittsburgh skyline, go stand the fuck outside.
Why even go to the damn game if you can't tailgate?? That's a huge part of the gameday experience.
I feel sorry for our kids and their kids.
Take away the things that make going to a game fun then there will be fewer and fewer reasons to go to the game.
Hard to beat 65" of high def 10 feet from my face with my own reclining leather couch and whatever food/drinks I want. Plus the ability to pause and rewind.
It quickly becomes ummmm why should I pay that inflated price for tix??
One if the best tailgate experiences I've been to was MNF in San Diego. 2005. On our way to one for the thumb.
Harrison had a huge game and Ben went out with the knee injury.
San Diego knows how to party.
And that stadium was fucking loud.
I've heard fans get more out of hand at a PGA Tour event than what passes as "crowd noise" these days at Heinz.
Steelers could pump in artificial noise and still not disrupt an offense.

Honestly, I mentioned this a couple times here Saturday and Sunday morning, but this past Sunday was the first home opener I have missed in 17 years because my daughters travel soccer team played at noon. And you know what, I have no regrets at all. I got home around the end of the 1st quarter, parked my ass on my recliner in front of my 52" LED, and was content as can be. I know some might find this strange, but the older I get, the less excited I get to actually be at the stadium in person. It seems like its more of a chore than being enjoyable.

No mystery the live viewing experience sucks now, Luca. I'm 32 and I much prefer watching the game at home or at a bar with friends. Going to live sporting events is just a giant schlep.

I don't think it has as much to do with age as it does with the product. Back in the Three Rivers days that area of the city was nothing but parking lots around the stadium. It was tailgating as far as the eye could see. RVs and buses were down there lined up at 7 am starting the tailgate parties. Gameday was essentially a vacation. An entire day event where you planned on spending a full day partying with friends before, during, and after the game. Back then most every game was also a Sunday 1pm start. Now they have maybe 3 or 4 such home games per year and the rest are 8pm, Thursday, or Monday nighters. People who work don't want to be out at the game until 1 am. With 2 stadiums, parking garages, a casino, Stage AE, and a bunch of other shit crammed in the area that used to be for tailgating, it killed the experience. the little tailgating that is left is so spread out it feels stale, and all of the good lots next to the stadium are taken by season ticket holders. $60 to park under a bridge 3 blocks away just sucks.
If the gameday experience was the same as it was 20 years ago I'd be fighting for season tickets right now. As it stands, I can stomach going to more than 1 game per year. I think most people would rather watch from home now.

Agree with all of it
Plus, HD TV and the affordability or large TVs and sound systems really hurt too. It's a lot easier to talk yourself into going to the stadium for an upper deck seat when you've got standard cable on something < 30". Much tougher with HD, DVR for rewinding plays, all on a 50" TV.

Exactly right, Perch....playoff games Three Rivers were carnival atmosphere. Best fuckin' tailgates though in existence were under the bridge down by the 222 Bar with GBall8man.

Tickets were a spur of the moment thing off StubHub a few days prior. Booked a room that was supposed to literally be like 6-10 minutes from Qualcomm.
I live about 6-7 hours drive from SD. Seriously flew solo on this one. Nobody was down for the drive, time off work etc. Woke up Monday morning real early and hit the road with a hibachi, some dogs, beer, Jack Daniels, and some good weed. Rolled into San Diego about noon.
Set-up my own tail gate and started getting after it. Walked around and just blended into several different parties. Qualcomm was packed and there were cool tailgates everywhere. Basically drank & smoked all damn day knowing my hotel was (what I thought) right down the street.
During the game it was beer after beer. We won and people partied for quite some time in the parking lot. So I just jumped from party to party and at this point it was shots and more weed.
Bout the time I tried to leave my damn car wouldn't start. Dead battery. And at this point the sheriffs were starting to clear people out so I didn't want to be stuck there as what had proceeded to this point was 12 straight hours of indulgence.
So I call AAA and dude tells me it'll be two hours to get there. I'm like bullshit, I'll be in jail in two hours so I REALLY need you to get your ass here. He says ok, 45 minutes.
So I open my hood thinking if the sheriffs get nosy I can say I'm waiting for a ride.
This is the strange part, as the parking lot cleared out people started showing up. Not a few people. Like a fucking gaggle of people so I start checking theme out. I'm serious now, these people were coming out in droves from the woods around Qualcomm. Going through the garbage and picking up what they could find. Again, this was at least 20-30 people living in the woods around the stadium.
So the scene is going downhill.
AAA shows up and jumps my car. I pull out my printed directions (no NAV at the time) and get the fuck out of there. Simple enough. Leave stadium and make a left.
Only it wasn't. Turning left led to a fucking barricade where the entire road was blocked off and under construction. Ok, so I'll just go right and circle around the stadium to my hotel.
Well, if you've ever been to Qualcomm in San Diego you'll understand it isn't that simple. Qualcomm sits smack in the middle of several freeways. Needless to say I got on the wrong one.
What should have been a 6 minute drive to the hotel took me over a fucking hour. I had to stop at several gas stations asking for directions. Somehow I made it to my room.
While checking in, a guy in a wheel chair asked me to help him out with a ride to the store for some beer. I declined. He got pissed and called me a selfish asshole. Told him under other circumstances I totally would but it was really best if I didn't get back on the road as I was in no condition to drive. He didn't care and continued to cuss me out.
Finally in my room I should have went to sleep. Too drunk, stoned, and amped up from the evening my dumbass decides to get in the phone book and call an escort number.
40 minutes later this bitch is in my room and I proceed to pay I think bout $300 for a handjob. Didn't care at the time because I wasn't going to bone a hooker.
She leaves and I pass out. Wiped out from the 24 hours I had just experienced.
The next day when I hit the carpet in my car was soaked. Evidently, the soft ice chest I had wasn't zipped up after the game so while I was driving like an ass trying to find my hotel all the melted ice was splashing out and soaking the floors. They were sopping wet.
Never could get them right again and the car always stunk after that.
But hey, we won the game, Ben game back from the knee and led us to #5 and I had one hell of a night.
