Re: Tomlin bans jersey swapping
I know this is a novel concept to some of us around here, but is it possible we don't know the whole story? Perhaps jersey swapping is just one of many things Tomlin has told his players they couldn't do any more?

Or perhaps it's a knee jerk by Tomlin after he read all the heat he took for keeping THE STREAK alive?
It's actually kind of the opposite of me-first, really.

Mutual admiration or friendship....
Doesn't impact the game.

I want to hear about some internal team fining system. One you don't want to contribute to ....
Like a personal donation for Roger Goodell's extra bonus compensation, Christmas card list,' or a charity if his choice, care of Mike Tomlin
Make It about the team, make it a rallying cry. You fuck up on discipline field or after whistle or otherwise l, you're out 10k for Roger and mean it. I bet that would make it work better.

I doubt it. He said he didn't care about the backlash and really, why should he? Unless the Rooneys were upset about it, he has no reason to kowtow to public opinion.

I like it. I like it a lot. The look in the room from Deebo after the first fine anybody gives up ought to do the trick.

We know he didn't tell them to stop celebrating first downs, yelling at officials, or risking sure wins to extend a personal statistical streak. Just so long as they don't do anything dumb on the field AFTER the game is over.
4 pages already and no one has speculated cheap ass Rooney doesn't want to pay for extra jerseys?!?

SteelerFury: This is stupid.
Trading jerseys after the game is over cannot possibly have anything to do with winning. It happens after someone has already won. Therefore, yes, it's stupid. Are we assuming that the Steelers would have beaten the Buccaneers if only the players hadn't been busy planning the post game jersey swap. Dumber than the Great Ping Pong Ban of whatever .500 season that was.
I believe the team started performing better on the field after the ping pong ban.
If Tomlin were really smart, he'd bring back ping pong ... and then immediately ban it again! Players would get the message fast. Tomlin is not to be F'ed with.

How do we know? This happened after the Jacksonville game. They haven't played since.

He could even entertain the idea of shuffleboard for a while, long enough to give em hope, before saying no.

I'm pretty sure the players are billed for any jerseys swapped, just like they are when they keep their helmets as momentos.

Hadn't thought of that. Makes sense in a sad, cynical sort of way.

Why am I not surprised?
Whether it came from Tomlin or the league, this is the height of absurdity. Exchanging jerseys is a sign of respect and sportsmanship around the world.
But not in Tomlin's/Godell's NFL.

I agree.
I don't see how trading jerseys loses the focus on winning.
Not attacking a 32 ranked D does....
Or deciding to punt on 4th and 2 up 7 at home vs Tampa. Or running on a delayed handoff on 3rd and 5 when a first down wins the game.
Swapping jerseys?
Ok...
Perfectly stated.

Um...if it came from the league, when did Tomlin become co-commissioner with Roger Goodell?
Your last line is a like a bad campaign ad using improper juxtaposition to imply a relationship where none exists.

I am looking at this from a totally different perspective.
Tomlin is trying to regain control of his team. However it has been so long since he actually had any stones inside his scrotum that he is taking little baby steps and trying to regain his manhood. ( he doesn't want to upset his boys and be on the outer)
Testicular fortitude Rehab program - Mikey T style
Step 1: Take something little away from the bad people.
Step 2: Run away and hide and pray that there is no conflict
Step 3: Slowly emerge and whether the front or rear of your panties are wet.
Step 4: Think of something a little tougher and repeat steps 1,2 & 3 or give up and be proud that you tried ( eg. ping pong table punishment)
We should be guessing what the next act of testicular fortitude is going to be from Mikey T.

Exactly! the stuff they think about is dumb as shit! I find it especially stupid when you think that the guy he gave his jersey to was a childhood friend! two friends reach the NFL, I actually think it's very normal that they'd trade jerseys.

I truly think this is Mike Tomlin trying to show some leadership after the heat he received over the last few weeks regarding:
Penalties
Lack of discipline
Questionable coaching decisions
Ping pong...jersey swapping...he is serious about winning. You can't swap jerseys at the end of the game and expect to win games.....did I just type that?

Well if this is Tomlin only reacting to the fall out from last week then he's less of a coach then I thought him to be. I think this was just Tomlin responding to what he felt was inappropriate behavior whether we believe it or not.
Once I see the penalties drop to respectable levels, execution rise to respectable NFL levels and some improved coaching decisions then I'll believe that Tomlin has put his foot sown and reigned in this team. Those are the only things I find important and relevant for team success.

His response to personal fouls - "It's an emotional game"
His response to something COMPLETELY unrelated to what happens on the field - "Knock it off"

Swapping a jersey after the game is over is really this teams problem... Glad Mike Tomlin put a stop to it so we can get to back to championship form.

He didn't "ban" it. He asked the players to do it off the field. So there's that.
Maybe he doesn't even care that much and Rooney told him to put a stop to it?
In any event, I really don't care.

If it's from the league then Tomlin has nothing to do with it, obviously.
Whoever ordered it is an idiot. Better?

Maybe the coaches should shake hands in the tunnel away from prying eyes...
