Everything related to Bell and how he would have performed this year is, of course, unknowable.

But it seems obvious to me that whatever Samuels got against the Pats Bell would have gotten more. And it seems obvious that his fumble rate would have been low this year as well, so easy to project that games cost by RB fumbles may have been won with Bell in the lineup.

Bell is a douche, but let's not pretend he's a JAG.

Noone is calling him a JAG.

I just don't believe that what is holding this offense back from being at the next level, a place this offense was never at with Bell on the team, is due to the RB position.

Let's not pretend that we lost on the last play of the game by a RB fumble.

We had a 14 point lead when Conner fumbled in the OT opener tie. We still had a 7 point lead after they scored. Ben threw a rz pick in the first half. Our kicker forgot how to kick, missed the game winner in OT.

Conner's fumble in the Broncos game was only 1 of many shooting ourselves in the foot that game. Our TE failing to maintain possession into the EZ was bigger since it took 7 points off the board.

It may have been a break long term for Bell to turn down the Steelers offer. It was a kick in the balls that he decided to sit out the year.

There’s minimal evidence for your first assertion, and none for your second.

There is not one loss I see where I’m saying “If we had Le’Veon, we would have won”.

Not even the Raiders’ loss (although that one comes closest).

exactly, unless Bell was repalcing Tomlin and actually knows when and when not to call timeout

I don't think anybody is calling him a JAG. But he sure as fuck isn't worth $14M.

BTW

The Steelers SHOULD offer Zach Zenner enough to bring him into the fold next year.
Conner + Samuels + Zenner is kind of a perfect combo, and all three can do everything the Steelers ask of their RBs. Zenner adds an element of power running the others don't have, and he's a positive player on STs. He played for damn near league minimum and is a fantastic fit for our offense.

I mean, if we're playing the "what if" game: Isn't Bell normally hurt about this time every year?

No. He'd be preparing to get hurt against the Bengals in week 17

12.4 is the average # of games played by Bell per season (not counting post season)

Bell fumbled 7 times in his last 24 regular season games, so for people to harp on Conner fumbling, I don't know what to tell you.

To B2B, I think Samuels weighs closer to 230 and Bell had been losing more and more weight each and every year. Bell to me looked to be 220 or less, maybe 215 and it did not increase his speed at all. Bell to my eye is a RB who runs a 4.65 at his point, the knee injuries have taken their toll.

So, Samuels a 230 pounder running a 4.54 compared to a Bell weighing maybe 215-220 running a 4.65. I don't think Bell would have done what Samuels did against NE.

Munch has publicly talked about how Bell's patient style drove him crazy at times. You look at Williams, at Conner and now Samuels, and you look at how they are able to make these 20+ runs so damn easy and yet with Bell they were disappearing and becoming rare.

Bell and his fans are in for some disappointment when they follow him next season with his new team.

Not sure you'll find a Bell fan on this board.

I hope you're right that a 5th round rookie making his 2nd start is already more effective than Bell. That bodes well for the future for sure.

We were 0-4 with Bell as our starter in games against New England.

Bell had 292 yards rushing in those 4 games, an average of 73 yards rushing per game. Samuels rushed for 142 yards in his first game against NE.

In those 4 games against NE we targeted Bell 29 times in the passing game, he caught 19 passes. That is a pretty bad 65% catch rate, your starting RB should be having a catch rate of 75-90. Conner for the year is at 76%, Samuels has 16 catches this season but he has been targeted 19 times, that is an 89% catch rate

This for me shows how Bell's pass catching has been really, really overstated. He is not like a 2nd WR, if anything his pass catching has become average to below average, becoming less and less effective. The offense was shooting itself in the foot by targeting Bell so much, he just was not that great. He had 2 receiving Touchdowns last season in 106 targets, Conner/Samuels have been targeted 86 times so far and already have 3 TD catches. Throw in Rosie Nix's TD catch from late last season (just to show what the RBBC trio have done the past 16 games) and that is 4 TDs to Bell's 2 TDs. You would think that if Bell were so great that he would have 5-6-7 TD catches a year and be able to outperform the RBBC trio of Conner/Samuels/Nix.

Agreed, always been a Zenner fan. If he can stay healthy, he'd be a great value add for us. Plus, he has that high SPARQ Tomlin loves, is super smart, and would become tight with Ben and Vance in short order, most likely.

Excellent special teams guy, and solid pass protector, too. And he'd be cheap.

He does play for Detroit, so there's that angle.

Not sure with Patricia there that we have the same connects as before but otherwise that makes perfect sense.

Also the nickname of Dairy Sanders is fucking hilarious.

IIRC, they're still partners in BLESTO, which is where I think the connection is.

Bell obviously overplayed his hand and cost himself alot of $$$. Discuss.

You should of added Conner's 2017 stats to be fair, it ends up about even. Goes to show that Bell isn't worth the money.
