Hey, Tomlin is so great! Even a castoff asshole nobody like Morgan Burnett is asking to be released.
Haha...hey people want to be a part of what Tomlin has going on. What a great situation he’s built!

But but but Tomlin is doing a great job managing the team.
I won’t miss Burnett. But the optics are certainly bad for Tomlin.

This. He's been a gimpy disappointment this year, not a great signing, cut bait and run.
The somehow is the somehow
Burnett's a fucking PUSSY.

My thoughts exactly. I forgot that he was on the team. Three years from now no one will remember he was ever a Steeler.

Was a panic FA signing by this competent staff.
Where was the panic??
I am not going to fault Colbert and the Steelers for signing Burnett. We cut Mitchell, Wilcox and Golden. All we had on the team was Sean Davis and Jordan Dangerfield. The safety free agent class last offseason was underwhelming to say the least, nobody wanted to sign any of these guys to huge contracts, the value was not there.
The Steelers were going to draft a safety high but they still needed to bring in a veteran. Signing Burnett was a decent move at the time. It did not work out as expected but that is what happens in free agency sometimes.
I will tell you one thing, we were hamstrung last offseason by two things, the Shazier 5th year option of $8.7 million and the $14.5 million cap hit of Leveon Bell.
That was $23.2 million tied up in two players and neither played for us in 2018.
You can't play in free agency if you have no money, that was the case last offseason, but for this offseason of 2019 it won't be the case.
Again, the Steelers can cut two players and sign/extend 4 players and be over $55 million in cap space.
Typically every year in free agency we have no money to do anything, to get free agents that can have an impact. It is comparable to me like picking 32nd at the end of each round, hard to find that stud player.

The panic was in how this fucking asinine franchise seems to operate. They made no contingency plans for the fact that all they had on the roster was a shit for brains rookie [Davis] and a lifetime journeyman [Dangerfield]. That to me spells stupidity and poor business form. They had many other opportunities to be prepared even before Mitchell. Let alone after his lame ass didn't work out. Square peg Round hole. I hated the Mitchell signing from day one and for good reason. Wilcox had potential but never seemed to translate it to snap counts on the defense. Another wasted trade. Golden wasn't anything more than a glorified ST'er with occasional defensive snaps in a pinch. The Steelers did not plan very well at all for post Polamalu. That was their panic. I totally blame colbert and tomlin. This fits their M.O.

Lets see with the money this season if they still go the bargain route.

I guess we will have to agree to disagree. Still bringing up Troy Polamalu?? Colbert drafted Sean Davis in round 2, drafted Terrell Edmunds in round 1. Went out and signed Mike Mitchell to a 5 year $25 million contract and then the coaching staff proceeded to use him out of position and squandered his talents. Mitchell had 4 INTs and 4 sacks in Carolina's 4-3 defense in his last year, only year with them, was used much differently, comes to Pittsburgh and then is 'neutered' by this lame 3-4 defense. Funny how Indy signed him off the scrap heap this season at the midway point and again is playing in a 4-3 defense and helps with Indy's turnaround and playoff push. He was even named the AFC Defensive Player of the Week. Colbert signed Morgan Burnett to a 3 year, $14 million deal, which was very manageable and modest and hoped that his injury troubles would clear up as it did for Joe Haden. I don't see how any of those things are panic moves or somehow failed contingency plans.
Colbert can provide the players, but if the coaching staff is screwing up those players because of shoddy coaching, or a piss poor defensive scheme, well, shouldn't that be the source of our anger???
I feel like Colbert is still a very fine GM, the issue, the problem has been the coaching and the schemes on both offense and defense and special teams. Finally axing Haley and promoting Fitchner did wonders for the offense, a world of improvement in the first year. They could do the same on defense and special teams if they merely tried. Fire Danny Smith and Butler and bring on new coordinators, change the schemes and we would see improvement.
What I find interesting is that Colbert and Tomlin have their contracts last until 2020. Sorry, but Colbert has done nothing but a very good job in my opinion of acquiring talent, the problem is the coaching and schemes. Colbert has 3 members of his 2017 draft class playing in the Pro Bowl. If I were Rooney I would give an extension to Colbert right now and fire a shot across the bow of Tomlin.

I do agree to disagree with you. You nailed it Scunge. Square peg round hole. Mitchell didn't fit this defense. Even the Panthers obviously didn't feel Mitchell was worth the scratch the Steelers offered for a reason. Yet the Steelers tried to make it work for how many seasons [4] with little return? Finally Mitchell's mouth caused some embarrassment for the team and he was released. Wasn't surprised at all when he 'seemed to re-emerge' as a decent safety in Indy. Coaching? Maybe. Defensive scheme? Maybe. Either way..., Mitchell sucked as a Steeler.
When did they finally draft a safety again? 2016. Then Davis was played out of position a SS his first 2 seasons. Then the Steelers ran to the podium for Edmunds in the 1st round and surprised the football World last year. Then the Steelers sign Burnett from the scrap heap knowing he was a gamble, At Best. Burnett cost this team a roster spot and money to miss what 5 games starting only 2? Played very sparingly in the games he did play in. Was that worth the investment? Not IMHO. Now Burnett reportedly wants out. Goodbye! To me Was a panic signing because who the hell did they have again? A rookie drafted last year and a third year player that had been playing out of position his first 2 years. Not a whole lot of confidence there from the staff/FO me thinks. There were other prospects out on the FA market. Before Mitchell I don't remember. After Mitchell produced very little in return we all were screaming for another safety, or two.
Sorry Scunge, I still believe Burnett was a panic signing. I hope he gets released and they can salvage some of the cost from his contract. If I'm the FO I'm still looking for another veteran safety in this FA market. I'm also hoping they look to sign ILB, Corner and another DLineman. We all know the fiasco both corner and ILB are. Alualu is a FA and is not effective anymore. Walton hasn't nor IMO will ever develop more than his back up role. McCullers needs to get on with his life away from pro football. They can keep Walton on the cheap as depth. They could use another WR and RB too. Perhaps they sign some and draft the rest.
