Is Mike Tomlin finished in SteelTown if he?

He is right you know! "Run more", "Tweek Game", "Ball Awareness" the genius of Art2.... let's get back to our roots! If things don't turn around maybe we can go retro, to the '60s!

But they don't run more.

Just because you came up with it doesn't mean it's an interesting topic either, going off on folks isn't going to make it better.

Agreed. Say Tomlin loses to the Browns and then they win the next 15. IC's point is perfectly valid.

Extreme, but I'm guessing the probability of going 15-1 is about 500:1.

But I understand your point, of course....Obviously.

One game at the start of the season, for team that traditionally starts slow doesnt mean anything in terms of Tomlin's job.

Why are they so OBSESSED with TRADITION?

Especially when the "Tradition" seems like a detriment to their success. The definition of insanity....

I know one thing about week one.

Get ready, because you are going to see this team play Exactly the same way it has played for the last three years. Same way we play division opponents every game. Slow and belligerent to the end. Bed but don't break, few sacks and TOs, time consuming O if we can move at all, kicking game apparent blunders because the kicking game stands out more when you play games so slow and close to the best.

We are going to ease in and hang on.

Dumb question.

But for reals, last night I started to think about what a kick in the nuts it's gonna be if we lose the home opener to CLE. I'm not saying we are gonna lose, but I just don't feel good about this team right now.

Last season we score 2 seconds into the game against Tennessee. We get the ball back and within a minute and a half 1) our All Pro center's knee gets blown up by David DeCastro and 2) we fumble the ball into the endzone and fail to score on what was otherwise a really solid drive.

Then 2-6 happened.

It's the first game and we need not make any rash comments or predictions, but make no mistake folks, this is a HUGE game for this team. I'm nervous as fuck.

My fear is Tomlin looks at the early schedule and decides there is margin for error (and there may very well be, but that's a luxury not to be relied on).

I think that may translate into stumbling and bumbling through a soft early schedule and, once again, having their backs to the wall early in the 2nd half of the season.

In the history of the NFL, has there ever been a coach fired after week 1?

I've been a Tomlin skeptic from the beginning and the answer is no. Tomlin would have to do something on the order of Bell Blount or Rice to not be the HC for his entire contract. Even if Tomlin is not signed in his final year, and I could be wrong but, I seem to remember that Cah'r at one time was not extended until after his final year. I can see that happening here with a 9 or more win season in Tomlin's final year one time. Mind you I'm not a Tomlin fan at all. I only see him as a good practice coach which IMO is an assistant coach. I'm just being realistic as to what the ownership would do.

Hard to blame Tomlin as he does not have the talent. Colbert should go first as he has done poor job of drafting and allowing the salary cap to handcuff us on signing any FA talent.

It's a two-headed monster - drafting success requires HC and GM to be very much on the same page. Colbert had a pretty good track record with Cowher, so....

Colbert did a good job with talent after Cowher won his war with Donahue.

Tomlin said in '12 his primary job is talent evaluation and then in '13 said that he picks the talent.

In the Steelers organization Colbert is more or less concierge and the head coach is the Don at least when the final decision on talent and direction of the team is made.

Now if Tomlin fails then Colbert will have a large say in who the new HC is going to be.

OT: Zivco's sig of Colbert reminds me of Mel the cop from Scarface.

He might get fired if he does a butt naked streak across the field in the middle of the third quarter. If he did this just wearing his sunglasses, I'd give him a five year extension on principle.

Did you go to Oxford University? Did you complete a PHD in Astrophysics? You're a rocket scientist aren't you? Well done for adding your genius to the topic! Way to go. Your no brain surgeon fossil, you are certainly no RHODES SCHOLAR.

The question is valid unfortunately, I like coaches to be more X's and O's than fire and brimstone. I get the feeling we lose the opener and he (Tomlin) loses the Brimstone to the X's and o's he never had.

Wow, I guess you didn't get the support you were looking for with this stupidity
