After the team’s first padded practice of 2019 ended Sunday evening, Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin was asked to comment on Adeniyi’s camp showing thus far and especially what he showed during Sunday’s practice.
“Man, Ola’s been flashing and showing some bursts and finishing some rushes,” Tomlin said. “It’s been really good competition between him and Hawk [Jerald Hawkins], specifically. A good young tackle – outside linebacker competition thus far with guys like Hawk and Chuks {Chukwuma Okorafor} and Zach Banner, and some of those young outside edge-rushers.”
I really hope Adeniyi is the real deal. The Steelers need "solid" depth at OLB. Chickillo needs to be challenged/pushed..., iron sharpens iron?

I'll agree there, SF, and add that it's awesome that a group of Chuks (who I think was already assumed to be an ascending guy), Hawkins (possibly maximizing a last opportunity here), Banner (planet theory)and Johnson (that UDFA rookie roster maker, 2019?) are all working well on the O-line. Bodes REALLY well for the future of that group, which, given the loss of Munch the OL whisperer, I was actually pretty worried about.
Definitely iron sharpening iron, if you will.

If the new 92 can ball out then they can let Dupree walk and not have to draft an edge rusher in the 1st or 2nd round next year. That would be a big boon. Let Chick stay as the 3rd with Ola and Watt starting and hope Smith or Gilbert or somebody shows up as an edge. Not having a direct draft need is the way to be. They can sign their own players and add future talent in the draft depending on who walks and who stays.

According to Kozora, Switz so far has been running behind Eli on the depth chart.

Sucks about Davis, though. He needs the reps.
And yeah, SF, nice to see Johnson doing well, too.
Can maybe dispense with the troll-sourced Clank stuff soon.
I don't think Kozora is a troll. Either way, he observed Clank Johnson dropping a few on the second day.

Had 1 drop from what I heard and it was a trying to run before he secured the ball drop. A mental lapse not a lack of ability to catch. He also torched Brian Allen so bad on Sunday for a TD that everyone thought it was Burns.

Gray sounds impressive on the DL/OL drills. I will be excited to see him in a game.

Forgot to add Gray to that young OL kudos list so far. That's some serious depth possibility.

Switz should be running out to get the actual WR's who matter coffee.
Or ice cream.
But the little fella had better not pay out of his own pocket.
Things could get tight in a few weeks.

News from Ravens camp:
Miles Boykin is the 2nd coming of AJ Green (according to Ravens' fans) after lighting it up in stadium practice in pads. I see this every season with Ravens' fans they hype up a WR camp darling. Maybe this time it will come to pass, we'll see.
Jaylon Ferguson is stiff, has 0 bend & struggles to do anything beyond power moves. Oddly enough sounds just like his scouting report.
Ben Powers has been crap.
Heard to next to nothing about Justice Hill. Backfield is packed so he is going to have to shine to get snaps. He is only back Ravens have that has potential to scare defenses but is that a product of Big 12 non defense conference or a reflection of Hill's ability? Speaking of players that thrived in that shitty conference with Heisman winners throwing him the ball ...
Hollywood is still waiting to play. I get the sense he is always going to be a injury issue. Maybe it is me but he looks downright fragile.
Lamar Jackson has blown hot/cold. Still struggles outside the numbers but has shown some progress though it remains to be seen if that is because of increased reps rather than actual no kidding steps forward.
Mark Andrews is going to be a stud. I was dead wrong on him, thought he was a glorified big receiver trying to play TE. He has been catching everything and making plays all over the practice field. By end of season I'm betting he'll be considered one of the best TEs in the league. I'm having nightmares of him running down the seam v PS ...he will be a very nice fantasy pick up that should be cheap in auction leagues & easy to snag late in draft leagues.
Judon looks like he the only Raven pass rusher worth a damn. Rest have been underwhelming, it is early so still time for one of them to come through but looks like Ravens are going to have to scheme a pass rush through bltizes, stunts etc.
Humphreys could be one the best CBs in the NFL.
Jimmy Smith is getting roasted by UDFAs. I'm betting Carr will start across from Humphreys.
Earl Thomas still has a limp ...if he goes down that secondary will suffer.
ILB is going to be a problem. They have JAGs and nothing else.
Oline has holes, specifically at LG and Center. I'm getting sense they are not in love with Skura. Hurst is favorite at LG, he is a JAG at best.
Also RT could be an issue OBJr reported to camp out of shape & has been struggling to get on the field. He has been "demoted" to 2nd team reps. Their depth on oline? Is abysmal. PS are damn lucky to have so many options.

I dunno man, with Clank Johnson dropping footballs, and Donte Manqueef bowing out injured the second the pads come on, I wouldn't be surprised to see Switz playing a significant amount come the reg season.

Unless I misunderstand, gonna take a stab and say Polt is Gen X, by far the coolest generation.

No, no. With Clank having dropped one single pass so far. Not a few, not multiple balls. Just one. And he’s apparently juking guys out of their shorts.

Whatever helps you to sleep at night.
But......the next time you drive by a Subway, you may want to stop in and get Switz an application.
Just in case.

You don't actually believe this, do you? You really don't think Switz will be on the roster come Sept 1?
Manqueef bows out injured again today btw. I'm feeling a little Ladarius Greenish about him.

Let's see.....
The top four WR's are going to be JuJu, JW, Moncrief and Diontae Johnson.
You'll also see plenty of Jaylen Samuels as a receiver. They're already working on using both Conner and Samuels together (exactly like I said they would....you're welcome).
The backfield will be Conner, Samuels and Snell.
Like I keep saying, Switz better stay VERY sure-handed catching those punts.

Diontae Spencer (Johnson too) is a better returner than Switz, too. But who isn't?

Gonna disagree with you Lit. While I agree on Polt being a cool dude - even when he favors Tomlin - I'll go with the generation that gave us Frank Sinatra, John Coltrane, Billie Holiday, Paul Newman, overcoming the Great Depression and winning WWII as the coolest. Yeah, the Greatest Generation.

Would be really great if we could keep this to training camp updates and discussions, folks. No offense to anyone, just something we've done every year with the training camp thread so folks know what they're getting when they see new posts up. Don't know about anybody else, but I look forward to straight football after the offseason.

https://theathletic.com/1104705/2019/07/29/camp-chronicles-diontae-johnson-keeps-racking-up-touchdowns-but-could-use-10-pounds-of-strength/LATROBE, Pa. — Diontae Johnson caught another “seven shots” touchdown and could’ve very easily had another if Mason Rudolph had looked to his left. Still, that’s three over the past two days for the rookie receiver out of Toledo.
Throw in a catch, pivot and run that made Justin Layne look bad, turning around Brian Allen for a 5o-yard touchdown reception during seven-on-seven, more than a few hookups with Ben Roethlisberger and several crossing routes in which he seemingly ran free and Johnson has been as good as any receiver on the field not named JuJu Smith-Schuster.
Johnson continued to impress as the Steelers practiced for the fourth consecutive day Monday, their second with pads on, at Saint Vincent College, which could make him a legitimate option for this Antonio Brown-less offense if he keeps up this pace.
Wait, didn’t we see this same story with James Washington last year? We did, and so did offensive coordinator Randy...
