Re: Nelson wants to be traded
I think a 5th is the right price. Better than that is a bonus. Much worse than that is disappointing.

I haven't seen many Steeler teams play worse than the 2020 Steelers did from Week 12 to the Browns playoff game, and I've been watching since 1974.

Was hoping the HC would right the ship during that stretch....Thrillsseeker wrote: ↑Fri Mar 19, 2021 7:47 pmSpot on. That stretch was some brutally bad play.
But to blame him would be wrong. He is one of the best.

I know I'm a board pessimist, but it seems we had a couple shine pretty bright this past season in Dotson and Claypool. Highsmith flashed some very promising things as well.jeemie wrote: ↑Fri Mar 19, 2021 8:31 pmWe haven’t gotten better since then.

I don't see why some of the rookies this year wouldn't have a chance to do the same this year.

I’m not reading the Steelers are in the running for Jackson anywhere.bradshaw2ben wrote: ↑Fri Mar 19, 2021 6:26 pmIncidentally, I suggested trading Nelson months ago. I think there's trade value there and they have Pierre and Sutton in the wings. Also, the Steelers are apparently one of two teams in the running for Adoree Jackson.
If they end up with Haden-Pierre-Sutton-Jackson-rookie-Layne... they're not only going to be fine... they might end up better than last year.

What's your analysis of Nelson? I thought he was above average last year but not great, especially for his rep and pay scale. If we end up with A.Jackson or K.Fuller + draft capital from a Nelson trade, I will be very happy.bradshaw2ben wrote: ↑Fri Mar 19, 2021 6:26 pmIncidentally, I suggested trading Nelson months ago. I know it was a colossal collapse, but lets not forget context. Covid, reduced down time for a three-four week stretch, injuries to key players (Bush, Dupree) etc. And to make everyone happy. . . Tomlin.Jobu wrote: ↑Fri Mar 19, 2021 8:46 pmYep. Went from 11-0 to one of the worst teams in the league almost overnight.
Arguing with idiots is like playing chess with a pigeon. No matter how good you are, the pigeon is going to shit on the board and strut around like it won anyway.

Heard it from a very reliable NFL source. One that has been good to me for a while now. And it makes sense: they were in love with Jackson his draft year.jeemie wrote: ↑Fri Mar 19, 2021 9:46 pmI’m not reading the Steelers are in the running for Jackson anywhere.bradshaw2ben wrote: ↑Fri Mar 19, 2021 6:26 pmIncidentally, I suggested trading Nelson months ago. The Juju deal was much better than anything I could have expected were he to be signed. That said, keeping Juju over Nelson is mindnumbingly stupid. You just don’t opt for a non-superstar WR over a starting caliber CB. Ever.
Compound that with the young talent at WR already, the Steelers’ impressive track record at drafting WRs, the losses already at and aging of the CB position, and the utter inability to draft any capable CBs that can contribute early. It makes ZERO sense. Ugh.

Big Adoree fan here. But how can the Steelers afford him?bradshaw2ben wrote: ↑Fri Mar 19, 2021 11:05 pmHeard it from a very reliable NFL source. One that has been good to me for a while now. This is where I am - actually MUCH less than he certainly thought he'd get and even less than most of us thought he would find some owner to fork out. I also think that the one year deal makes it a real "prove it" season for him so he can get the kinds of offers he believes he deserves.Smashmouth21 wrote: ↑Fri Mar 19, 2021 11:09 pmThe Juju deal was much better than anything I could have expected were he to be signed. All that said, if I had to choose between Ju Ju (who absent the social media crap, I like) and Nelson, it's a no brainer to the point where Capital One could use it in one of their ads in place of Barkley getting picked first in elementary school basketball. When you look at the positions as a whole, we are in much better shape at WR without Ju Ju than we are a DB without Nelson..... and it's not close

The Steelers don’t have to trade Nelson but have to think they must have a plan if putting him on the block.
I get the timing, but i have to think the bigger conflict the FO sees with Nelson’s pending 8.25M salary is TJ Watt’s coming $130M, not JuJu’s 1.7M cap hit.

his salary is 14 million and change. 8.25M is just what they would save if they move or cut him while eating 6 point some million.
Not exactly; his cap hit is the $14M+; his salary is $8.25M, which is the only money they save off the cap hit if they cut or trade him.stillthere wrote: ↑Sat Mar 20, 2021 12:38 amhis salary is 14 million and change. 8.25M is just what they would save if they move or cut him while eating 6 point some million.
Would be sad to see the upgraded Willie Williams depart. He was an excellent FA signing one of the better moves made in recent years. Has lad from Mich St fallen off the radar?

You are correct the 6.17 Million is the pro-rated portion of his signing bonus and any money they restructured. I read that wrong somewhere along the line.Mick wrote: ↑Sat Mar 20, 2021 12:43 amNot exactly; his cap hit is the $14M+; his salary is $8.25M, which is the only money they save off the cap hit if they cut or trade him.stillthere wrote: ↑Sat Mar 20, 2021 12:38 amhis salary is 14 million and change. 8.25M is just what they would save if they move or cut him while eating 6 point some million.

Shame. I liked him coming out. I suspect he was another CB in CFB with decent speed that got by roughing up receivers physically. Which of course beyond 5 only take you so far in NFL.stillthere wrote: ↑Sat Mar 20, 2021 12:52 amLayne looks like he has not progressed much at all in 2 years here.
If they need cap space, why don't the dump the bum at TE that can't catch?
Howard Griffith had to resort to chop-blocking him during the 1997 AFC Championship Game. An incredulous Kirkland asked Griffith, “Why do you have to use cheap tactics like chop-blocking?” Griffith replied “Why do you have to be a 300-pound linebacker?”

Addition by subtraction with Sphincter gone. That's the only improvement I can see along with getting Bush back from injury. All told, it doesn't look good.jeemie wrote: ↑Fri Mar 19, 2021 8:31 pmWe haven’t gotten better since then.

Juju signing and Nelson news are unrelated. I believe they want to extend Belson to make another move. JUju came back for a minimal amount over the vet minimum.

Did Adoree Jackson sucked that’s why he was cut???
