I like how the Pens are playing but they look gassed. I hope they have enough for one more goal.

We need the Captain to do something special here because it’s been a long time since I’ve seen some playoff magic from him.

That is soul crushing. Pens are going to get smoked in game 6. Jarry is toast.

When a hockey coach loses “it”, he don’t get it back. Sullivan has lost it. The dude will be dismissed.

I don't think there's jack shit wrong with Sullivan... his forwards and defensemen played a fantastic game and his goaltender played really well––just Sorokin played out of his mind and Jarry made the critical mistake in crunch time. You might get away with that early in period 2, but you don't get a chance to elevate your play with a gaffe that ends the game.

I was the kiss of death, saying the Pens were rolling their best 4 lines maybe ever... that might be true, but if you don't get goaltending to step up, then it's all for naught.

If Casey Desmith were healthy he would be starting game 6.

There’s nothing else to do besides play the exact same (absolutely fucking dominant) game we did tonight on Wednesday.

Geno looked much better tonight. Sid and Letang have been consistently carrying the play when they’re on the ice. We’re getting depth contributions.

League average goaltending for two games and we’re on to Boston.

I’ve always been a huge Sullivan fan, but another first round exit especially as the one seed? I don’t think he can survive that. I want to see how he changes things up next game. Does he start Lagace? I mean it would be a balls move. The shots were there tonight but the offense still doesn’t look right.

And the future of penguin goaltending looks very dim. We were kinda wondering and yeah, not good.

There have been boner defensive plays, bad bounces, a pretty rancid face off percentage, bad penalties taken at worse times... but Jarry is at or near the bottom in just a LOT of categories, advanced and otherwise. The endgame tonight was kind of the cherry on top.

Faceoffs were better last night-- like 50/50 I thought?

I think they have to make a goalie change or they risk having to 100% walk away from Jarry should he lose Wednesday.

I was sort of summing up the woes of the whole series. Faceoffs really were markedly better last night, definitely remember it was damn close to 50/50 going into OT2, and the shot disparity was ridiculous (despite the terrible pct...), but they're really between a rock and a hard place with Jarry, DeSmith out, Lagace in, etc. I agree, if DeSmith is healthy, this isn't even a question. Hell, if DeSmith is healthy, he likely started last night. Pretty pivotal moment.

Not a stats guy, and certainly not an advanced one, but 5v5 save pct of .909 is the worst of goalies in the tourney that haven't lost their jobs, HD save pct is right around the same, goals saved above avg is .324, which is, in fact, dead last among playoff goalies. Add it up, it isn't pretty.

My cousin Bill and I agreed before this thing started that it was probably going to be more about will than skill in this series, and the results there so far may be more depressing than any advanced goalie stats I can quote you. Really deflated this morning.

I was reading someone’s comments last night; the disappointment with Jarry is that he’s now cost us two games and the advanced stats (I don’t know how they calculate those specifically but it has something to do with “real” or “danger” scoring chances vs. just shots on goal) has Jarry near the bottom if not the bottom of all playoff goalies. He’s basically getting sniped on one on one shots vs. legit one timers etc. Goalies playing good-great will stop far more of those.

And last night our defensive effort was SPECTACULAR. In fact, maybe the best defensive game I’ve seen from this team in maybe months, let alone a playoff game vs. a legit team.

And this is the happiest I’ve been with a Penguins defensive group in a long time. They aren’t perfect but they aren’t allowing the terrible odd man rush goals where Jarry has no chance. He’s just playing very average to poor hockey, and as others have said, that is a death kneel in the playoffs.

Crosby has impacted the series, and Malkin, even injured, has had an impact at times, but Sid is currently on a career long streak of 15 playoff games without a multi-point game, and the Pens are 3-12in those 15. The team isn't structured for The Core to be "doing the little things right." They are 25% (maybe a little less) of the team's cap. They NEED to produce at a much higher clip for the team as constructed to succeed. I, too, got maybe a little too enamored with the F depth, and it's probably because I (like most fans) expect Crosby to do more Crosby things and Malkin to do more Malkin things in a playoff run.

I’m with you Ice. That’s what I mean by the offense not looking right. Pierre McGuire has been blowing Pellech all series and rightfully so; he’s basically neutered the top line. That along with Jake playing like a peewee and getting his ass kicked all series, well unless the Malkin or Carter lines step it up, we look lost. Last two games show you how Trotz’ plan can stymie one of the best offensive talented teams in the league. I counted one, maybe two legit scoring chances for Carter’s line last night. That isn’t going to work.

Feel a little bad for Carter, honestly. When he got here, I sure bet he wasn't thinking he'd having to be leading the team offensively in a playoff push. Imagine where we'd be without him.

One bad pinch at the end of the first period...Islanders' goalie plays out of his mind...one jaw-droppingly stupid clear attempt by Jarry...and that's all she wrote.

I mean I hate to think that a single boneheaded clusterfuck of a decision can literally mean curtains for a guy’s career, but it doesn’t appear that Jarry is really that good, so.....

He’s got two games to make up for what may be it in his career. No pressure.
