I think there is something to the “new” approach
But it’s important to weigh that the math was informed mostly by the old approach
IMO it’s very situational and team vs team based if you wanna be successful with it

The preparation and planning during the week means fuck all once the bullets are flying.
The preparation the week before the game is of paramount importance when the bullets start flying…it gives the players confidence as the bullets are flying.
I agree with you on the coaches’ “game day book” but Tomlin’s book is filled with additional “gut” pages which make his book worse than many coaches.

I don't think the Steelers show up unprepared. I think their problems are mostly the risk-aversion of the plan, questionable assistant coaching ability or failure to allow them to succeed, and recalcitrance in changing course when faced with the enemy countering the plan.
