That's way too young DP. Hope he didn't suffer with too much pain. Our homes and lives are way too empty without them. Sorry for your loss.
Thanks Remo. He really didn't suffer much at all...just an hour or so of some stress towards the very end. Even if he did, he never whimpered once or any other signs of real pain. He was so brave. Making sure he didn't live with pain was goal #1 for me. #2 was making sure he knew how loved he was and 3# was having him pass in the safety and comfort of his home with family beside him. It's the least I could do for him after what he gave to us so unconditionally throughout his life.
I've never had a dog, but I've always had cats, and I've had to take a number of them to the vet to be put to sleep, and it's never fun. I get coming home and the place feeling so empty after. They are part of the family, the little weirdos.
While not a huge cat person, per say, I love all pets. I have family members that have them and know they are great companions to them. We had one when I was a small child. I remember it fondly and he got along with our dogs perfectly. More often, they seem to attach themselves to one person in the house. I've met some cats that are way cool (open to everyone) and others that are extremely standoffish. I have no idea if it's more breed specific. If I ever had one now I would want it to be the "Goldens" of cats....if that's possible?

Sorry you've lost some over the years. And yes, the empty house is very real -- even more so when kids are off at college.

I theorize that dogs become friends for us because they are totally honest with you, while being completely unconditional in their affection. They give you that look that says, "WTF are you doing? You know the routine! Why are we not following the routine! You had one job!" <two seconds later> Hi! You're here! Yayyyyy!!!"

Anyway, sorry for your losses--really sucks

Good points and I'm sure there's a lot of truth there. There's certainly no BS, and routine is definitely key to them. Being pack animals they need to have their place/role in their pack to truly be happy/fulfilled and routine plays a big part in that.

Thanks for the condolences.

Thanks man. Sorry for yours, too. Good looking springer.

My daughter is studying to be a Vet (and not a people MD) for the very reason you stated... "dogs are way better than people."

Glad to see we have a lot of dog lovers here

I’ll take my dog over most humans most days

Can’t think about my life without this dog…if I could post pics I would (hint to anyone who can assist)

Raising my Peroni that I’m drinking right now to all you dog owners

Cheers

I know this will be a big deal here, but what the fuck? You respect your dog over humans?

That's a sad state of affairs for humans.

And to make this clear. I've had many interactions with dogs, and they are overwhelmingly better than humans.

Drinking an Italian beer, Steeler fan and a dog lover. You're ok by me. Life without my dog really sucks. No matter how bad a day I had, he could always cheer me up just by being at the door to greet me and he never let me down unlike most people. Their lives are too short, that's for sure. Enjoy the time you have. Not worth thinking about it before it happens.

I apologize for derailing the thread.

That's hilarious. Sorry for your loss as well. Anytime I start to date a new woman, first thing I would tell her after I invited her over was she had to be nice to my dog. Gotta set the rules right from the start.

Remo, I hope each day gets a little better for you. Your Weim looks like a really happy boy in the pic -- remember him that way.

As far as "the ladies" go, man, my Indy loved them and they him! No matter where I went in public with him we would be stopped by dozens and dozens of women. If I was single he would've been the PERFECT wingman. Hell, I was probably more his wingman, now that I think about it. He was definitely Top Gun! :D

Glad to see so many dog/pet lovers here, as well.

According to Kant, dogs are things with conditional value as mere means or tools. :D

"Beings whose existence depends not on our will but on nature’s, have nevertheless, if they are irrational beings, only a relative value as means, and are therefore called things."

Hey, like a good dog you are learning and deserve a cookie.

Good boy. Papa is pleased.

Now before you go and piss on the carpet or chew the couch, realize the humor in that and move along… 🐶

I miss my lab a lot. Had her for 14 years. What a great dog. Dogless at present but do dog sit my daughters dog often. And she’s a handful. Pitbull, German Shepard, bulldog mix.

Do have a cat that my son brought home.

He’s a cool lil kitty.

Immanuel Kant apparently didn't get out much and didn't travel more than thirty miles from where he was born.

I'm more interested in what Michael Palin has to say since he went Pole to Pole and Around the World.

Speaking of Python, Immanuel Kant was also a real pissant who was very rarely stable.

In the end I tell myself following this team the way I do is just a hobby. Got to take the ups with the downs.

I get upset but man not like I used to. Titans loss in 2002 playoffs I went outside and hit a tree with a baseball bat a million times lol
I've been told this "just a hobby," to which I reply...
It's NOT a FUCKIN' HOBBY!!!!!!
