@Ice
I have to agree with you Ice. I think the market has spoken volumes and the silence is deafening... Edmunds is a BUM!
That said, I still believe he can serve in packages and contribute as a serviceable player while we groom/train his replacement.
I'm hoping they would not overpay him and make the contract super beneficial for the team. In other words easy out type contract, with little cap/dead money results.

Agree - I'd take him back but please, PLEASE don't overpay him. He can serve a purpose but we can't afford to pay an arm and a leg for what he brings to the table.Steelafan77 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 04, 2022 3:04 am@Ice

I mean, when you also consider the type of FAs that teams should be looking to sign, in terms of age/prime window left/potential for improvement, someone like Edmunds, just coming off rookie contract, is exactly who teams would be looking to sign (like Daniels, who I think has been easily our best signing), too, but they're just not. You're right SF. The silence is deafening.
That said, as someone mentioned, he's done the pouty athlete "remove all team uni pictures/references from social media" thing, so maybe he's made up his mind to move on and the Steelers will be saved from themselves. Perhaps he can go to Buffalo and take Trey with him. Would open up a spot for Cam's little brother to occupy instead.

Nothing left to do but smile, smile, smile...
You want to hear a funny take on Edmunds/Honey Badger? Moats and Ueler this week were talking about how Edmunds won't get a deal until Mathieu signs his deal, talking about how he is the big domino and then all of the others will soon follow.
That made me laugh so hard. How can they be so ignorant of this offseason? Nearly all of the safeties have already signed. You look at Edmunds and Honey Badger and they are just about the last two safeties looking to sign a new deal. The dominos have already fallen, the huge contracts that set the market for this offseason have already been given out. 5 years, $70 million, that went to Marcus Williams, HE WAS THE FIRST DOMINO!
It is being reported now that Edmunds has an offer on the table from the Steelers. My guess is 3 years, $14-15 million.

I hope not that much money. No more than Levi Wallace and Witherspoon each got.Scunge wrote: ↑Tue Apr 05, 2022 2:24 amYou want to hear a funny take on Edmunds/Honey Badger? I’m guessing right now the offer is like $10M/3 years with very little guaranteed, if we don’t get a safety in the first round it will increase dramatically.

• Regarding current Steelers free agent safety Terrell Edmunds, Kinkhabwala says there is “still an offer on the table” for him. But she said he still has multiple offers from other teams that he is considering and may not be all that interested in the Steelers proposal financially.

I can't believe the steelers will go very high with their offer

With the rumor of an alleged deal on the table; one I believe is favorable.., ya know that Steeler's discount contract.
I think with that in mind Edmunds is playing it out to the end to make sure he doesn't pass up a more lucrative contract once 'the old man' mathieu is off the market... JMO

Dulac states their is no imminent deal with Fitz. So who to believe
i don’t think they look into extensions until after the draft. Not sure who suggested they were already negotiating.steelmann58 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 06, 2022 6:37 pmDulac states their is no imminent deal with Fitz. So who to believe

Aditi and the rest of these media types try and manufacture content every single day. It is relentless. They are clueless.
Look, this is our team, we follow the team and we know their MO, they will not make any decisions and sign any extensions until the last month of the offseason, in the preseason, right before the season begins.
If Aditi, or any of these other media types/personalities would do a little research, they would know this. It is not hard and takes maybe 5 minutes.
(5 minutes later)
2021 TJ Watt signs his new extension on September 9th.
2020 Cam Heyward signs his new extension on September 6th.
2019 Joe Haden signs his new extension on September 1st.
2018 Chris Boswell signs his new extension on August 23rd.
2018 Vince Williams signs his new extension on August 23rd.
2017 Stephon Tuitt signs his new extension on September 9th.
2016 David DeCastro signs his new extension on September 8th.
Now, yes, of course the Steelers have given out contracts earlier in the offseason, but that is usually because they need the cap relief, they are up against the cap and need relief. Or they have players that are true free agents and aren't franchised and so their hand if forced. But if they have control of the player's rights? They still have a year left on their contract? Or are under the 5th year option? They will wait till later in the offseason.
The core players that have the big contracts have their new deals done in that month leading up to the start of the season. One of the favorable by products of doing it this way is that this often leads to money being saved. Many of the drafted players that are under that 5th year option, when they sign that new extension, it actually frees up money, as their cap hit is lessened. Watt went from over $10 million to just $8 million after signing that new deal last year. Minkah is in the same boat, he is playing under that 5th year option, a new deal for him will lessen his cap hit too.
I like that these big contracts are done at the end because it gives you a safety net. Maybe you went on a spending spree in free agency, maybe you had to sign some additional player because of injury or surprise retirements. Maybe you are entering the season with not as big of a cushion as you wanted. But, you finally give out these new extensions with lower first year cap hits and poof, just like that, you now have that additional 2-3 million.
Back to Edmunds and the safety market. Peppers signed, Armani Watts signed, Keanu Neal signed, you look around and there are just 3-4 safeties left with their hands in their pockets looking around with no big money contracts to be seen. The draft is in 3 weeks and this safety class isn't that bad, the Steelers could spend a 2nd or 3rd round pick. Edmunds has no leverage, take what is on the table or don't, you are running out of time.

As I've said, sign him on the cheap and draft someone. As good as our D has been over the last few years, they've let us down big time in big moments. I find our playoff defensive performances to be disgusting. Some of that is the porous run D. But, it's mostly been about soft coverage between the ILBs and the safeties.
How many times over the last few years are we scratching our heads wondering what happened on 3rd and long? More often than not some TE or WR has beaten us down the seam. If you ask Edmunds to turn his hips and run OR if you ask him to stay with a WR out of a break...you are in BIG trouble.
I still remember vividly that washed up Randall Cobb completely catching Edmunds flat footed on a crosser and beating him for an easy TD in the Packers game. If Tyreek Hill beats you, then so be it. Not many people can stay with him. But when washed up WRs are gaining 2 yards of separation on crossing routes, that becomes a problem.
He's a band aid at best but we need to fix the SS problem. Let's hope we can draft one and haven't mortgaged our whole draft on an inaccurate gadget QB.

Total Agree Franco Absolutely There is not a QB worth trading up for and losing all your Draft Picks.
I rather see them move down a few spots
