Cubs media hacks keep emphasizing the PERFECT GAME Arietta has going already, so we'd be remiss to not point out that the PERFECT GAME might be jinxed and the Cubs will go down in flames tonight if we talk about the PERFECT GAME too much . . .

Also the Pirates better think about having somebody crowd the plate and lean into a HBP to get something started here . . . need some desperate measures tonight and close the gap w/ Cards.

Hey is Arietta throwing a NO-HITTER? I think he is throwing a NO-HITTER.

Step 1 -- Drill Arrieta in the ribs.
Step 2 -- Throw over to 1B to keep Arrieta close, drilling him in the ribs.
Step 3 -- Repeat step 2 as needed.

Well all it will take is sweeping the fuckin Cards and then at least matching their performance in the final weekend --- then beat them in a 1-game playoff a week from tomorrow.

Probably all easier than beating this guy tonight. ( did anyone mention he's got a NO-HITTER going??

Pirates will start a new 6 game winning streak tomorrow night, unless they win tonight.
St. Louis cracked under the pressure today giving up 7 in the 9th inning.
Cards will lose 1 of 3 in Atlanta.

Cubs will visit St. Louis in the roulette game.

Bling, you're a new man. I like it 8-)

Blue is TERRIBLE tonight. Hopefully that bad strike 3 call on Arrieta gets him off his game... even just a little.

Winning either 8 or 9 of 10 on the road @ Dodgers, Rockies, Cubs has changed the math.
Anyway, it's 2015. Strike zone technology exists.

All that needs doing is giving the home plate umpire a speaker that proclaims ball or strike.
I honestly don't know how umpires can be as consistently wrong about balls/strikes as they are with "experience" gained over time.
Once, I'd like to see a batter offer his bat to the umpire and say "You hit, I'll call the game...I bet I'll do your job much better than you do mine, especially with me giving the pitcher the calls you give him." There is simply no reason to tolerate different strike zones from different umpires or from the same umpire throughout the game.

Pedro is too nice of a guy to do the job justice.
I'm thinking a pinch hitter, maybe Stewart, with a little of that "smart hitting."

Cervelli would do it. I think gladly.

Wow is AJ battling tonight. Clearly he does not have his best stuff, but he's bearing down like a mother fucker when he gets in a jam. The anti-Morton ;)

He's giving us a chance.

The Cubs have benefited from having an incompetent home plate umpire squeezing AJ tonight.
With all that has happened, they've plated 2 runs tonight (after plating 2 runs on Friday & 0 runs on Saturday).
One of those runs is off their pitcher's bat.

What will the Cubbies do when they visit St. Louis (with all their playoff experience) in the roulette game, and what will they do vs. the Pirates after they burn Arrieta in St. Louis?

BTW, I think the Pirates need to throw up a 7-spot in the 7th inning ala the Brewers 7-spot in the 9th inning today.
