Re: Good Ben / Bad Ben
Since we pretty much know Tomlin and co will find a way to shit the bed, Ben needs to be extraordinary every game. Very little room for error when you have to carry a team and inferior coaching. Ben played like shit today, and the team lost, there is no denying that. The coaching was terrible as well but thats become so commonplace with this team that many dont even notice it anymore. This loss is on everyone.

Why don't you and Luca go burn your effigy of Ben. Jesus Christ you guys are outrageous.
Here is what is outrageous.
We pay Ben so much of the salary cap we can't afford Timmons or Pouncey. Or a FA pass rusher. Or anyone really.
Not that they are so great, but the problem remains.
When there is 1:47 on the clock and no timeouts and the Steelers are down three, I want to see an effort.
Not a sack and a 50yd pass clank off our 3WR.
Nobody fears Big Ben with under two minutes left anymore.
Tomlin coaches like this was the Super Bowl and Ben was going to come back and lead the game winning drive against the Cardinals.
It's not happening. That Ben is gone.
In his place is a fat guy that throws where he wants, regardless of coverage. Takes sacks he would have twisted out of in an earlier life.
Don't count on the rings to get Ben in. Bubby Brister is also a two time Super Bowl winner.

Wait, Ernest, you mean a 50 yard pass that hit the receiver in the hands?
Right before a 30 yarder that hit Wheaton in the face?
And that's the guy we are throwing under the bus? The guy that played pretty bad for 55 minutes but made two great throws that were both dropped when the game was on the line?
I'm sorry. There is a fundamental difference between how some of us view Ben, or how hard it is to be successful at the QB position in this league. I think some of you guys are in-fucking-sane.

Tom Brady throws two rub routes for 15 yards and OB and we have a chance to win or tie the game.
How many poster bitched about throwing bombs on third and three?
You guys want to have it both ways.
Ben is NOT elite.

Good, bad, ugly doesnt matter. The bottom line is in a must win game against an injury depleted division rival Ben Roethlisberger lost to RYAN MALLET

No, he lost possibly to the shittiest secondary in the league.

my point on ben isn't his condition. it was his refusal to move to but more time and open lanes to throw. his throwing was dictated by the rush. when they arrived; he forced throws. or got sacked. normally ben evades and rolls out; steps up and delivers..what ever it takes. did not see that today.. he was flat footed and winging it , or holding to long and eating it. shit show performance vs a preseason quality team.

Nooooo check any box score in the country. I'm pretty sure the team that won was quarterbacked by Ryan Mallet and the team that lost was quarterbacked by Ben Roethlisberger

I have to say - on the 101 Yard INT return that was called back, Ben looked like an old man running down the field
That said, for the most part this year he has been throwing the ball exceptionally well. Today he was off but play calling and pressure with 4 were also big issues
For the life of me I cmat udnerstand why they chose to start the game as they did. In light of recent success it was sublime in its absurdity

If Ben is not elite no one is. Just an all around bad day at the office.

Jimmy Smith is fast as fuck. Ben has sustained a pretty big knee and ankle injury this season.
What did you expect Carl Lewis would suddenly be wearing number #7?

If you look at Ben's mobility early in the year vs now, it isn't even close. Yes, he's been throwing darts the last few weeks, but there is NO WAY IN HELL Ben is close to 100%. He's definitely hobbling out there, and yes, that hurts his escapability.
BTW...The quick sack Villy gave up to Upshaw was pretty bad, but how is that not a personal foul? Could have really changed the game there.

Villa was blocking him to the ground. I don't know if that's a penalty or not, but it shouldn't be.

Mallet looked sharper than Ben today, that's for sure.
Our failure to generate any pass rush certainly helped Mallet feel comfortable.
But it was more than that -- Ben had some time today and still looked like shit. He just wasn't sharp.
I only wish Ben could be more consistently good/great and not toss in so many shit games during a given season.

Multiple sacks given up. He can't escape anymore. The old Ben that wasn't fat and lazy would have moved around a little.
He is a fat fuck that is squandering 100 million dollars.
Don't pretend this is on Tomlin. Tomlin is not playing.
Tomlin didn't throw the picks without looking. Ben just doesn't care anymore. He got paid.
Tomlin has very little to do with the fact Ben is still the "Who is laughing now O Line" guy.
His dedication to his craft is showing. All the blow jobs he gets at this site mean nothing.
I disagree. He is great and he cares a lot. Nobody wants to win more than him. But he played like shit today.
The Ravens wanted to win more than he did today.
All the Ben Ballwashing. When does he check into a throw instead of going with the run in the first quarter?
How small do you need him to be in big games? Cinny 1, even the last playoff loss against the Ravens. He throws the INT in the EZ.
He sucks. Didn't even learn from the first RB pass in Cinny 1. Threw the same shitty pass against Denver.
He's done. Too many hits, whatever. He's playing like a Favre moron.
Favre is a 3 time league mvp, a sb champ, and will be a landslide first ballot HOFer.
"He's done". That's funny.
Throw. The. Football. On. First. Down.

I never said anything about Tomlin.
What I have said is this:
Ben blew this game. Ben is past his prime. Ben is entering the Fat Dan Fouts/Gimpy Dan Marino part of his career. We are paying Ben a large amount of the salary cap to be above average. Ben gets credit for what he USED to do.
Never said anything about Tomlin.
But keep posting all those NON BEN players in your sig and avatar.

Everything written on the board today, and in this thread especially is summed up with your concise sentence. It is a people business...I bet 10 to 1 they had lax practice hours this week, more so than other teams, due to the holidays...damn baby Jesus celebrations!

its not so much to me that he lost to mallet, it's that he lost to mallett because mallett had better accuracy, timing, poise, and decision making.Obviously wrote:SteelDrama wrote:Good, bad, ugly doesnt matter. THIS loss is on Ben. CIN 1 was on Ben. We are entering the Favre period where the "gunslinger" ruins season after season.
You cannot take up all the cap room and handcuff the team and not draw fire for uninspired play.
Ben is not going to get better. He is going to get fatter and slower and make worse decisions with the football.
But keep on adding your own interpretation to my words.
As Elway aged, the Broncos were able to switch gears so their 7 was a more complimentary player. Our team chooses to let everything fall on his shoulders. He is not up to this task.
I have not even considered trading Ben. I think we are stuck with him.

made this comparison last week in terms of 'like Favre, he's always going to throw at least one pick', but taking it to the logical extreme, i agree very strongly with this as well
i'm not a Ben hater, i'm not going to put it all on his feet, but there's some truth to the accusations
i mean, how many times did Favre carry his team to the NFC Championship and then almost singlehandedly blow it?
we're going to live and die by Ben just like the Packers/Vikings did with Favre

As I had thought would happen - this thread quickly devolved into the true feelings of some posters. This wasn't about Ben having a bad game - but now instead of Ben having a bad career and being detrimental to this team in the current time and short future.
That's fine - we'll see how Mike Tomlin does when #7 hangs it up. The "never had a losing season" posts will stop real quickly.
