No one is advocating building a script down to the last detail and sticking with it. What they are espousing is that a general outline of how you're going to handle various situations in a game should be prepared well in advance of the actual game and referred to. Evidence suggests this is not done by the steelers' coaches, or else not done well.

Play calling is an art- who says art cannot be made better by proper preparation ahead of time?
Preparation builds confidence...and confidence is what turns execution INTO art.
