There are only two, maybe three coaches in NFL history who were better than Tomlin over their first nine seasons: Paul Brown and Vince Lombardi. (Bill Walsh won two Super Bowls in nine years but “only” managed a .610 winning percentage. He also added another Super Bowl in his 10th and final season.)"

This is pretty amazing stuff though on the face of it. The main difference is that Tomlin was handed a contending team. Lombardi and Walsh rebuilt teams that had been losers when they arrived. Brown's 1st 4 years where as the best team in an upstart rival league (AAFC).

No doubt. I don't think ANYBODY would reasonably put his name anywhere near those legends in terms of actual ability. He needs to do a LOT more before that could even be a possibility.

But, maybe he is pretty good overall.

We win the SB and you can claim some Tomlin credit, aside from that, we all get FUCKED by another decade of Mike Tomlin. All because he finally won a playoff game. The worst coach in the NFL beats the broken down thug city Bengals and he gets a pass for another decade of mediocrity. What will football be like in 10 years? You see the direction it's going. Better find a new hobby. Professional football is dying, and the last few years we have if it will be with Mike Fucking Tomlin leading the helm.

Naelae, when I read your posts, this is what I think.

Naelae's the guy who was pissed off that we made the playoffs because that means the Steelers won't be firing Tomlin. Now he's pissed that the Steelers won a playoff game because that means all the more that the Steelers won't be firing Tomlin.

Crap! Now we're stuck with a coach who can win playoff games!

No Naelae is the one who has enough balls to say what everyone is thinking. We should have strolled into the playoffs and easily won our last two. Instead we got destroyed by a bunch of 3rd stringers from the Ravens. We could have very easily missed the playoffs because of a laid back we got this Mike Tomlin mentality led team. We could also very easily lose a layoff game from a what da fuck do I do now moment from Mike Tomlin during a crucial clock management time. No one said they regretted us getting into the playoffs, to include me. But you illiterate circle jerkers like to poke and prod to get a rise out of people not intelligent enough to recognize you for what you are, an Idiot.

Mike Tomlin isn't going anywhere anytime soon. We all know that. But if there was an upside at all to another cluster fuck season ending orchestrated by our potted plant coach, it would be that the microscope couldn't help but be on him for dismantling a season that looked to have us being a force in the playoffs. I will be cheering just as hard as any Steeler fan for a SB run, all while realizing that at any moment Tomlin could wake up and fuck it all up. I don't expect you to understand a word of this. I expect you are probably drooling all over yourself trying to think of something witty to say. Good luck with that.

Yeah, why would a Steeler fan not enjoy seeing loss after loss due to some of the dumbest fucking clock management gaffes in sports history? I mean that seems like such an endearing quality

Clusterfuck season? Jesus christ. Please, just stop posting. You read stupider and stupider each time.

The problem with talking in absolutes, like you are, is you disregard all that is possible and happened because of Tomlin.

He fucked up this, he fucked up that. We're in this position because of him, etc. You're completely discounting the fact that it is Tomlin that is responsible for orchestrating and building the team and putting it the exact position that you're so pissed that he fucked up.

If you hate Tomlin, fine, but you can't discount all the good. If you love him, you can't discount all the bad. However the Steelers arrived at this point in the season, it's because of Tomlin, the whole coach.

The team didn't just magically appear and he fucked things up.

He's a SB winning, playoff winning, overall above the line coach. Not great, not shit, simply pretty good with a chance to be considered really good if this teams continues to progress in the coming years.

Oh yeah, Tomlin "prepared" to have the Bungles get 30 yards worth of penalties on one play in the final seconds of a playoff game and he also "prepared" for the Jets to lose at Buffalo.

Tomlin always has his troops prepared!

His team was in position to take advantage of those things when they happened.

Having a hard time separating the prepared from the luck?

Prepared enough to dominate 3Qtrs of play, lead 15-0 in a freezing monsoon, and then do their best to hang on once Ben goes down. So, yeah, prepared.

You're having a big problem with the phrase "luck favors the prepared", aren't you?

You really don't understand what that phrase means, do you?

This is like talking to a Tiki doll. Of course luck played a part. It plays a part in every game, every season. Sorry to break it to you, but no team is winning the SB w/o luck. That doesn't change the fact that the Steelers were prepared to take advantage when luck presented itself. That's a good thing.

No, I believe that phrase, in conjunction with how the Steelers won, is horseshit.

That might be a little too deep for you to understand, but try......

Yes, the Steelers were preparing to get lucky and they did.

It all worked out great in the end.

No- that's your problem, not mine.

To boil down the Steelers' fortunes this year to mere random chance ignores all that they have accomplished that was due to how they planned, prepped, practiced and played.

That these events beyond their control happened at a point where they were able to take advantage of them when they did happen is a testament to that.

If you think the Steelers' achievements this year can all be attributed to dumb luck, you an even bigger idiot than Naelae.

And that's not easy to accomplish.

Where did I say all of their achievements were luck, dumbfuck?

I said preparation played zero part in them winning, unless Joey Porter practiced baiting dumb Bungle players into a massively huge penalty.

Roll that one around in your tiny brain and see what happens....maybe enlightenment?

I lied, I will continue.

Consider two hypothetical Steeler/Bengal WC games. During the first, the Bengals and Steelers both play exactly the same as they did Saturday night. It turns out like we all watch. Good over Evil.

Now, consider the 2nd game. The Bengals play exactly as they did during the first game, all the way down to the final 2 minutes of chaos. However, the difference this time is the Steelers, through poor preparation, execution and coaching have not scored 15 points. They have 7. They are now, therefore, unprepared to take advantage of the Bengals idiocy, lunacy, retardation and yes, luck.

So, to recap. Prepared = Win :D Unprepared = Loss

Are we sure KC and Naelae aren't the same person?

They both seem to have a real hard time accepting the fact that Tomlin coached his team to another playoff win.

Naelae, downright mad that the Steelers won so Tomlin won't get fired and we can get a more uh..."acceptable" coach in here.

And KC just seems to be in denial that preparation and work during the week allowed the Steelers to score 15 points (and probably more if Ben doesn't get hurt).

I will point out you said it in the Browns game thread when the Bills clinched the win over the Jets thereby sending us to the playoffs.
